Chapter 80 - Nano-Particle Suit · Disposable

On a bustling street somewhere in New York City—

Peter sat in the back row of a city bus, a laptop resting on his knees, his fingers flying across the keyboard.

This laptop was his gift to himself after receiving his first profit share. It wasn't as powerful as the ones Tony Stark had in the lab, but for jotting down ideas, recording data, and doing a bit of research, it was more than enough.

At least now, he no longer had to suffer through that old, mismatched junk computer he'd salvaged from the scrapyard at home.

He was on his way back now, having just visited a Stark Industries composite materials factory—mainly to learn how they combined several materials with completely different molecular structures and properties into a single unified compound.

It had taken him a whole week to get approval for that visit, so Peter cherished the opportunity. And the trip had been worth it—he had learned a lot.

Right now, his mind was overflowing with inspiration.Countless concepts that had stumped him before suddenly made perfect sense.

"So all I need to do is dissolve the spider-silk solution in a proper mixed solvent, let it self-polymerize, and cast it afterward...Who would've thought solving the proton-conductive gel problem in composite materials could be this simple? Why didn't I see it before?"

Peter's thoughts raced as his fingers typed even faster.

If some slow author could type half as fast as him, maybe readers would be getting a dozen new chapters a day!

His goal was to create a suit that could stay dormant in the form of nano-particles when not in use—and, at the push of a command, instantly deploy and form the suit in seconds.

A necklace?A belt?A headband?A wristwatch?

He eventually chose the watch. It was the easiest to disguise.

He could hollow out the inner casing, leave the faceplate intact, and even keep the timekeeping function.Without affecting its performance, he could fill the inner chamber with the nano-particles.

That was the concept—and Peter had been working tirelessly toward it.

But he had hit a crucial snag.

Thanks to the special properties of his spider-silk solution, he had already mastered storing and releasing nano-materials.

But technically, there were still several things he couldn't quite get right.

First, although he had successfully synthesized nano-particles following the three-phase structure transformation of spider silk—from silk solution to solid webbing—and even preconfigured their final shape and color...

Now, when he pressed the button on his watch, the nano-particles did shoot out, wrapping around him and completing the suit-up process in five seconds flat.

However—he couldn't retract them.

It was just like how he couldn't turn his fired webs back into silk solution again.

Which meant... his suit was disposable.

Even though every component was homemade and theoretically cost-efficient, the material and energy costs still totaled thousands of dollars per suit.

Yes, the revenue share from Stark Industries had been increasing lately, but his research expenses were equally enormous.

When he calculated it all out...He actually owed Stark Industries money.

So how could he afford to wear a disposable suit? One use = several thousand dollars? If he wore it every day, he'd burn through a fortune!

Even Tony Stark's own son wouldn't waste money like that!

Besides, he'd only met Tony Stark a handful of times—no way he could ask for a bailout.

So after a few early test versions, he stopped making more until he achieved a breakthrough.

The second problem was that the suit was too simplistic.

Yes—it was just a basic full-body outfit. It had certain properties like heat resistance, insulation, and impact absorption from the nano-particle material itself.

But beyond that?Nothing.

Honestly, it was no better than the suits worn by The Amazing Spider-Man or Spider-Man Noir.

Naturally, Peter wasn't satisfied. He'd seen the vast suit collection of the Blonde Spider-Man, and after using Tony Stark's advanced Iron Spider suit for so long, he wanted to make something better—something truly his own.

Maybe he could integrate a few extra functions?

AI wasn't his specialty, but he could at least add some "Peter-tech" touches, right?

Okay, maybe that was aiming a bit too high.He hadn't even built a reusable nano-particle suit yet.

Still, if he couldn't fix this problem, the whole project would remain useless.

After long hours of study, he realized the key issue lay in the coupling between nano-particles—how to control their interconnections, allowing them to link and unlink freely for expansion and retraction.

But no matter how he thought about it, he couldn't find a workable solution—until today.

During his visit to the composite materials factory, he learned how they drew inspiration from the proton transport mechanism in natural proteins, using hydrogen bond networks between polymer functional groups to bind materials together. This allowed them to combine the advantages of multiple compounds, amplifying strengths and canceling weaknesses.

By complementing each other, the resulting composite became far superior to its individual components.

What Peter wanted to make was even more advanced—not just at the molecular level, but at the nano-particle level.

Fortunately, the principle was the same.

He could use spider-silk protein as a base, introduce certain conditions to turn it into an insoluble transparent film, and use it to separate the nano-particles.

Then, when activation was needed, he could break those conditions, dissolve the film, and let the nano-particles unfold into their preset structure!

With that, the storage and deployment problem of the nano-suit was finally solved.

Peter's thoughts were crystal clear now—he could hardly sit still. He wanted to fly straight back to his lab at Stark Industries and start building the thing!

After all, the groundwork was done. What remained were the experiments, fabrication, and final assembly.

Even if the end result was crude—compared to the Iron Spider suit Tony had given him, it might look like a beggar's outfit—

It would still be his own creation,a genuine technological achievement, and not just another "baby pajama" suit.
