Chapter 3 - Kael’s POV

As I stood in the grand hall of Aurora's family estate, the echoes of our conversation still lingered in my mind. I had been surprised by her spark, her determination, and her beauty. But despite the warmth of the setting, I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to her than met the eye.

Aurora's father, Lord Thomas, entered the hall, his expression calculating. "Kael, I'm glad we could have a private conversation with Aurora. Now, let's discuss the details of the marriage contract."

I nodded, and we sat down at the large wooden table. Lord Thomas's sons, Edward and Lucas, joined us, their eyes fixed on their sister's betrothed with a mix of curiosity and protectiveness. Aurora's brothers seemed to care deeply for their sister, and I sensed a strong bond between them.

As we discussed the terms of the alliance, Lord Thomas's focus was solely on the benefits it would bring to his family. "This marriage will secure our position and expand our influence," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. "I'm confident that Aurora will make a suitable wife and help strengthen our family's ties with the Kingdom of Tenebrous."

Edward, the younger brother, spoke up, his voice warm and friendly. "We'll make sure she's taken care of, Kael. She's our little sister, and we'd do anything to protect her." His words were laced with a deep affection, and I sensed a strong bond between him and Aurora.

Lucas, on the other hand, seemed more reserved, his expression cold and calculating. "You'll do well to remember that Aurora is a treasured member of our family," he said, his voice firm. "We'll be watching to ensure she's treated with the respect and care she deserves, even from afar."

I nodded, acknowledging their concerns. "Aurora will be respected and treated well in our household," I assured them. "I'll make sure she knows she's not alone, even in a foreign land."

As the meeting concluded, Edward and Lucas walked me to the entrance of the estate, their demeanor changing from formal to friendly. "We're glad Aurora's marrying you, Kael," Edward said, his smile warm. "We hope you'll be happy together."

Lucas nodded in agreement, his expression still serious. "Just remember, Kael, we're watching you from afar. If you hurt our sister, there will be consequences."

I nodded, my thoughts turning to the long journey ahead. "I'll do everything in my power to make Aurora happy," I said, my voice sincere.

As I departed the estate, I noticed the maids whispering among themselves, their eyes fixed on me with a mix of admiration and fear. One of them, a young girl with a curious gaze, couldn't help but stare at me. "He's so handsome," she whispered to another maid. "But he's so serious all the time. I've never seen him smile."

The other maid nodded in agreement. "Yes, he's intimidating. I've heard rumors about the Dark Lord's legacy. I hope Lady Aurora knows what she's getting herself into."

I turned to Ryker, who stood beside me. "It seems the staff has...mixed feelings about me," I said, my voice low.

Ryker nodded discreetly. "Yes, my lord. You're a mysterious figure, and many people are unsure what to make of you."

As we rode towards the Kingdom of Tenebrous, Ryker and I discussed the kingdom's politics and the upcoming wedding preparations. "My lord, shall I send word to the castle that we're expecting Lady Aurora's arrival?" Ryker asked me.

I nodded, my mind already turning to the logistics of our marriage. "Yes, Ryker. See to it that everything is in place. I want Aurora to feel welcome, to feel at home in her new surroundings."

"Ryker, what's the mood like in the kingdom?" I asked, curious about the reception Aurora might receive.

"It's...mixed, my lord," Ryker replied. "Some people are excited about the potential alliance, while others are wary of change. There's also the matter of Lady Victoria."

I raised an eyebrow. "Lady Victoria?"

Ryker's expression turned cautious. "Yes, my lord. Her father, Lord Vincent, had hoped you would marry her. He's not pleased about your engagement to Lady Aurora."

I nodded, remembering the awkward encounters with Lady Victoria. "I'm aware of Lord Vincent's ambitions. But I made it clear to him that I wouldn't be swayed by his proposals."

Ryker nodded discreetly. "Yes, my lord. Lady Victoria's feelings for you are...well-known. But you've made it clear that you don't reciprocate them."

I sighed, feeling a pang of guilt. "I know she's a kind and beautiful woman, but I couldn't marry her. I've only ever seen her as a friend."
