Chapter 6 - The Wedding

The days leading up to my wedding flew by in a whirlwind of activity. My mother and I spent hours with the seamstress, finalizing the details of my wedding gown. The dress was exquisite, with intricate lace and delicate embroidery.

"I love it, Mother," I said, admiring the dress in the mirror. "You have such a good eye for design."

My mother smiled, pleased with my reaction. "I'm glad you like it, dear. You deserve to look beautiful on your special day."

As the wedding day approached, I felt a mix of emotions. I was excited to start my new life with Prince Kael, but I was also sad to leave behind my family and friends.

On the eve of the wedding, I sat in my room, surrounded by my ladies-in-waiting. They were busy styling my hair and helping me into my nightgown.

"Milady, are you nervous about tomorrow?" one of them asked, her voice soft.

I nodded, feeling a flutter in my chest. "A little. But I'm also excited to start my new life with Prince Kael."

The ladies-in-waiting smiled and wished me well, before helping me into bed. I lay there, my mind racing with thoughts of the future.

The next morning, I woke up early, feeling a sense of anticipation. Today was my wedding day. I didn't think it would come so fast but here it was.

My maid Elara prepared my bath so I could get ready for the day.

In the hallway maids were running up and down the corridors, carrying trays of food, bouquets of flowers, and baskets of linens. The air was thick with the scent of fresh flowers and baking bread.

In my chambers, I sat in front of the mirror, my maid Elara busy styling my hair and applying a light dusting of powder to my face.

"Milady, are you nervous?" Elara asked, her voice soft and concerned.I nodded, feeling a flutter in my chest. "Yes, Elara. I'm not sure what to expect."

Elara smiled sympathetically. "You'll be fine, milady. You're a strong and capable woman. You'll make a great queen. And don't worry I will be there by your side."

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. I had known for months that I would be marrying Prince Kael, but now that the day had finally arrived, I couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation.

As Elara helped me into my wedding gown, I felt a sense of surrealism wash over me. This was really happening. I was really getting married.

The dress was exquisite, with intricate lace and delicate embroidery. I felt like a princess, but also a pawn in a much larger game.

"You look beautiful my dear", My mother said, drawing me back from my thoughts. I only smiled, because I could see the sadness behind that remark and I knew too well saying anything would make both of us cry.

As we made my way to the chapel, I caught a glimpse of Prince Kael through the window. He was standing at the altar, looking handsome and confident.

Our eyes met, and he smirked, his eyes crinkling at the corners. My heart skipped a beat as I felt a jolt of electricity run through my body.

I looked away, trying to compose myself. This was just a marriage of convenience, after all. We didn't know each other, and we certainly didn't love each other.

But as I entered the chapel and saw Prince Kael standing at the altar, waiting for me, I felt a sense of reality wash over me. This was it. This was my life now.

The ceremony was beautiful, with chanting priests and the scent of incense filling the air. I repeated my vows, my voice steady, but my heart racing with anticipation.

As Prince Kael placed the ring on my finger, I felt a sense of finality. This was it. We were married now.

The reception was a blur of music and laughter, with guests congratulating us on our union. I smiled and nodded, trying to play the part of the happy bride.

But as I looked at Prince Kael, I couldn't help but wonder what the future held for us. Would we be happy together? Would we learn to love each other?

As we danced, Prince Kael smiled at me, his eyes shining with affection. "I'm glad we're married, Aurora," he said. "I promise to always take care of you."

I smiled back, feeling happy hearing those words from him. "I'm glad too, Kael. I promise to always be by your side."

The night flew by in a blur of music and laughter. Eventually, it was time for us to leave.

As we said our goodbyes, my family and friends wished us well on our journey together. I hugged my mother tightly, feeling a pang of sadness.

"I'll miss you, Mother," I said, my voice trembling.

My mother smiled, her eyes shining with tears. "I'll miss you too, dear. But you'll always be in my heart."

With one last look at my family, I turned to Prince Kael, and we set off towards our new life together.
