'Wake up, Zhen Yi!'
I jolted upright in bed, gasping for air as my heart hammered against my ribs. I quickly looked around finding this place very familiar.
Instead of the familiar smell of antiseptic and the feverish feeling of my body. My eyes scanned the vast and silent room covered in shadows cast by the curtains by the window.
My head throbbed, why was I back here again? In his room? Didn't I die?
The last thing I remembered was drawing my last breath when Zhen Rui came in and removed the oxygen that gave me hope to live.
I thought I would finally join my mother who was always watching me. But why am I back in Yichen's bedroom?
Even the nightgown I wore was oddly familiar with the one I wore two years ago, before everything went south.
Don't tell me!
I rushed out of bed, and quickly grabbed my phone. A notification came in just in time. It was to remind me that I had a charity gala to attend.
And everything made sense. I was back.
The realization settled over me, colder and heavier than the fear that still clung to my skin. But then a cold laughter spilled out of my lips.
Everything was ironic!
Zhen Rui and Yichen would never have imagined that I was giving another chance to make them all pay.
I gritted my teeth and clenched my fist. Yes. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I must change everything.
Two years ago. My sister, Zhen Rui, plotted the biggest scandal that ended my life. She had isolated me, and poisoned Mo Yichen's mind with lies.
He had never really cared about this marriage but after what Zhen Rui did, his image of me was completely ruined. And after Zhen Rui gave the final blow.
He let me bleed out at the hospital, alone and full of regret.
The powerful business Tyrant who was known to have captured 30 companies at the young age of 20, who never smiled, and who was rarely seen, who had promised to protect his wife in their Flash Marriage contract, had simply abandoned me to my fate.
I closed my eyes, fighting the surge of weakness and regret. No. Not this time.
That was the life of the foolish victim: Zhen Yi. In this life, I am Mo Yi. The wife of Mo Yichen.
I walked to the windows and drew back the heavy curtains. Below me stretched the expensive and manicured garden of the Mo estate.
The house was enormous, intimidating and perfectly empty, a perfect metaphor for my marriage.
It was all mine, legally, technically and yet I possessed non of it.
Not until now.
From this moment forward! I will squander every penny that belongs to Mo Yichen, right until the time we divorce and I go my merry way.
A wide blissful smile tugged at the corner of my lips, as I began to drool on what I could possible do with all the money I could obtain from this marriage.
With a hand on my hips, I raised a finger to the sky. "First thing first. I, Mo Yi! Will make sure Zhen Rui eats my shit!"
A flash of silver on my left hand caught the moonlight. I raised my hand. The four carat diamond wedding ring, the public symbol of my loveless marriage with the most powerful man in the city.
And the only thing I could think of now while looking at this ring was how much I could get if I pawned it off and ran away.
Guess my heart had really changed.
There was a time I used to think of him when I looked at the ring, but now all I wanted to do was carry my luggage and run far away from him.
I breathed out a heavy sigh as I crouched to the floor burying my head into my thighs.
I turned on my phone, my gaze holding the notification. The charity gala was the precise location where Zhen Rui would attempt to drug me and set me up, therefore ruining my reputation and my sanity in my past life.
I looked at the ring again, a cold smile hanging at the corner of my lips. It was time to go to war.
"Mo Yichen" I whispered into the silence of his abandoned bedroom, the name rolling of my tongue. "I hope you don't return at all. This time, I will take everything you owe me."
****
The Charity Gala - A-List five star Hotel.
The sleek sedan screeched to a stop.
"Are you okay, boss?" my driver asked, his concern genuine.
Even though I just hired him tonight, he was doing his job perfectly.
I smiled. Why wouldn't I be? It was time to tell everyone that Mo Yichen's wife was perfectly alive and well.
"Make sure to pick me up at exactly 9 o'clock," I instructed. "If you wait until 10 and no news, come back tomorrow at 8."
I quickly stepped out. My purple diamond heels clicked against the red carpet as a flurry of camera flashes caused me to wince.
Jeez… this was something I would never get used to.
I ignored the momentary panic, letting my bodyguards quickly guide me into the hotel, protecting the me from the swarming media.
Once I was in the hall, the low murmur of conversation ceased. Every head turned. A proud, cold feeling bloomed in my chest.
This is what Zhen Rui hated.
I had already burned Mo Yichen's black card to buy the latest red sensation: the Peacock Tears dress.
It was a backless, sleeveless velvet dress, tight to the thigh, with feathers spraying at the hem. A minimal makeup look and diamond jewelry to match the ring were all I needed.
As expected, Zhen Rui was before me in a second, a fake warm smile ruining her perfect face.
"Zhen Yi, my lovely sister, how have you been? You look absolutely stunning!"
I rolled my eyes internally, forcing a polite smile of my own.
"Rui'er, you have to stop calling me that. I am no longer of the Zhen family." I took one deliberate step forward, crowding her personal space.
"I am Mo Yi."
