Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Doubt of Life

Chapter 5: Doubt of Life

"Oh? Why are you here?"

The newcomer was none other than Jean Grey.

"Hmph, this library isn't just yours." Jean scrunched her nose, picked up a book from the table, and sat directly across from Aiden, pretending to read.

However, her eyes kept darting towards Aiden, clearly not focused on the book.

Aiden naturally felt Jean peeking at him, but he didn't mind, instead immersing himself wholeheartedly in his book.

Rustle... rustle... For a moment, the only sound in the library was the turning of pages.

Seeing Aiden like this, Jean pouted indignantly.

But she didn't disturb Aiden's reading; instead, she sulkily picked up a book and started reading herself.

As soon as her eyes fell on the book, she felt dizzy from the large number of incomprehensible terms within it.

It was then that she realized, belatedly, that Aiden was studying knowledge far beyond their current age.

Thinking of this, Jean also became a little interested.

She glanced at the titles of the books Aiden was holding, secretly committing them to memory, planning to read them herself later.

After some thought, she eventually picked up some books she could understand and began to read along.

After an unknown amount of time, a helpless voice simultaneously rang out in both Aiden and Jean's minds.

"Aiden, Jean, it's time to eat."

By the sound of it, it was still Charles.

The punctual meal reminder.

The sudden voice startled both Aiden and Jean.

They looked up and saw that the sky had darkened at some point.

It was fine when he hadn't noticed, but as soon as he snapped out of his focused state, Aiden's stomach immediately let out a rumbling protest.

"Pfft..."

Jean across from him couldn't help but chuckle, but as she laughed, her own stomach also let out an equally loud "rumble."

"Hahaha!" Aiden also ungraciously burst out laughing.

As for Jean, her face was already flushed red, and she shyly lowered her head.

Seeing Aiden still laughing non-stop, a hint of exasperation appeared on Jean's small face, and she playfully punched Aiden.

"What are you laughing at? Hurry up and eat."

With that, she ignored Aiden and ran out of the library, her face red.

Seeing this, Aiden smiled and shook his head, waving his hand gently.

Immediately, the books on the table automatically floated up, flying one by one to their respective shelves.

Then Aiden also headed downstairs.

By the time he arrived at the dining hall, it was already full of people.

Aiden's eyes immediately spotted Jean, sitting alone in the same spot as yesterday.

And Jean had also noticed him and was waving at him.

Aiden saw that in front of Jean, besides her own portion of food, there was another portion, which Jean had clearly prepared for him in advance.

Looking at the other portion of food, piled up like a small mountain, Aiden couldn't help but roll his eyes.

"Well, it seems my image as a glutton is here to stay," he grumbled inwardly.

Aiden sat directly opposite Jean, and without ceremony, he began to eat.

As the food went down, the hunger in his stomach gradually subsided.

Seeing Aiden eat happily, the corners of Jean's mouth also slowly curved into a smile.

The generous portion of food was quickly finished.

But because he ate too much, he was stuffed... So he wasn't in a hurry to return to his dorm, but instead went to the school garden, planning to take a walk to aid digestion.

As expected, Jean followed him.

Aiden naturally wouldn't say something as disheartening as 'Why are you following me,' but instead walked and chatted with Jean in the garden.

At the same time, in the headmaster's office, two pairs of eyes were quietly watching Aiden and Jean, who were chatting and laughing in the garden.

The two were none other than Hank and Charles.

"It seems Aiden and Jean are getting along very well."

Hank looked outside; it seemed that because of something Aiden said, Jean was playfully hitting Aiden, but her eyes were always curved in a smile, clearly in a good mood.

"Yes, that's a good thing." Charles also smiled from the side.

"Jean, this child, is too fragile internally, yet her abilities are too powerful, making it easy for her to lose control. If Aiden and Jean establish a close relationship, it might reduce the risk of her losing control."

"To be honest, I think you shouldn't seal Jean's memories. Too much suppression will make her more prone to losing control," Hank said in a deep voice, expressing his concerns.

"I know the principle that it's better to guide than to block, just like the saying goes, 'an unhappy childhood requires a lifetime to heal.' But Jean is still too young now; she shouldn't bear such pain.

When Aiden's abilities become stronger and he becomes Jean's reliance, it might be safer to gradually unlock the shackles on Jean then," Charles also stated his thoughts.

"As long as you have it under control." Hank didn't say anything more, just nodded, tacitly agreeing with Charles's idea.

Ring-a-ling... Just then, a phone rang in the office.

Charles turned around, picked up the phone on the desk, and said, "Hello, this is Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters."

In the school garden, Aiden and Jean were sitting under a large tree, leaning back on the lawn, gazing at the night sky above, admiring the brilliant starry river.

"So beautiful!" Jean exclaimed, looking at the starry sky above.

"Mmm... *hiccup* ~ ~ ~ ~ ~"

Aiden responded, but halfway through, his voice turned into a long hiccup.

Jean's small face immediately fell, her enthusiasm completely gone, and she glared fiercely at a certain someone.

Aiden, on the other hand, looked innocent.

He couldn't help it; who told her to serve so much food? Wasting food was shameful.

After resting for a while, Aiden's food had digested somewhat, and he no longer felt so bloated.

So he didn't waste any time and immediately began to exercise his abilities.

He stretched out his hand, his palm aimed at a stone path in the garden.

As his telekinesis extended, a stone the size of a baby's head slowly floated up.

Under his control, the stone began to trace various trajectories, moving up and down, left and right.

"What are you doing?"

Beside him, Jean looked at Aiden with a puzzled expression.

"I'm exercising my abilities," Aiden replied, struggling to control the increasingly difficult-to-manipulate stone.

Hearing this, Jean's confusion deepened.

"Do abilities need to be exercised?" Jean asked, perplexed.

As soon as she finished speaking, Aiden saw countless stones, too many to count, rise out of thin air from the stone path. There were definitely hundreds, and each one was larger than the stone Aiden was controlling.

"..."

Seeing this scene, Aiden almost coughed up three liters of blood. He immediately relaxed his telekinesis, flopped onto the lawn with dead fish eyes.

"What's wrong?" Jean withdrew her control over the stones and poked Aiden's arm, looking puzzled.

"Nothing, I just want some peace..."
