Chapter 21 - Show off

They decided to head out back again. Everyone noticed that they had gone out and immediately came out to watch. They saw Raze standing exactly where his brother had stood.

Riker's face went grim. He didn't understand what his brother was doing, but he didn't like it.

Andrew noticed a threat and then looked at his father. "Father, stop him before he ruins Riker's chance to go to the academy," he said.

"I can't. What he is doing is all under the eyes of the scouts of the Raven Academy, and they seem to have taken an interest in whatever it is that he is doing. We can't stop or control that," the Baron said.

He spoke calmly, but deep in his heart, he prayed that his son wouldn't do anything silly that could cost them.

Raze took a deep breath and raised one hand. He paused for a moment.

'What I know is silent casting. If I show this here, what could become the outcome? It would bring me too much attention.

No, I can't make up spells on the fly. I'm sure that Ella can tell right off the bat if what I said is actually magic or some bullshit.

I'll just do it and talk to them later about not speaking about it. I'm sure we can reach a deal or middle ground somehow.'

Suddenly, a flame lit in his palm and everyone was stunned. His family looked with wide eyes as they discovered that their son was capable of magic.

On the other hand, the scouts were stunned for a different reason.

"He cast without a spell. He cast without uttering anything," one of the men said.

"Shhh, we can all see it," the woman said. Her face became stern.

"I believe we are about to see something that may change our perception of how the world views magic, so I want all of you here to swear on your lives and mana core that you'll not speak of what happens here without my explicit direction," the woman said.

The men were stunned. Such an oath was a heavy thing, but they could see in her eyes that she wasn't joking around at all.

"We swear," the men said in unison. Seeing this made one think, what exactly was the standing of this woman?

Raze continued with his presentation, and with only a thought, the flame snapped into an arrow.

When Riker saw this, his heart dropped. Fear gripped him already. Was his younger brother, the useless one, about to steal the spotlight entirely? Was he about to lose his spot because of this brat?

He clenched his fist hard as he watched. Andrew noticed it and frowned. He looked at Raze with a cold gaze.

Among everyone there, only one person was excited with what was going on, and that was Ella. She had a glow in her eyes as she watched Raze.

She believed that silent casting amongst humans was merely a myth and nothing more. Yet here she was, witnessing it right before her very eyes.

Sure, a flame arrow was basically a low-level two-star spell, but to be able to do such without wording a spell was amazing. She wanted to learn, she wanted to know how he did it.

Raze fired the arrow at the target dummy. It slammed into it and penetrated a hole right through it, something that his brother was unable to do.

Then he formed a second and fired it. When it was about to hit the doll, it exploded, blasting the doll back and heavily damaging it.

But his show was far from done. They wanted a magic show, he would give them a magic show. He formed two arrows over his hands and then moved both of them in random directions before controlling them to head toward the dummy.

"He controlled the arrows after firing them," one of the scouts said, completely stunned by what happened. Even the woman, who seemed unshakeable during Riker's presentation, had a look of disbelief on her face.

Riker looked at the woman and his heart sank. He could already feel his opportunity slipping away from him. His only saving grace was the fact that he was a dual caster. He believed that it would be enough for him to get through.

But fate was cruel, and Raze Grimhold was even more cruel. He raised his second hand and an arrow of water formed above it right before everyone's stunned eyes.

But that wasn't the shocking part. It was the fact that he was casting both flames and water at the same time.

"Simultaneous dual casting," the woman muttered. The shock on her face was real. She looked at those spells like a child that had just been introduced to magic again.

Raze attacked the dolls with both spells at the same time and a massive cloud of steam was released. With that, his presentation had come to an end.

He turned to look at the woman. "That's my best, I hope it was enough," he said.

'Enough? You freaking show-off,: the woman screamed in her head, but she forced herself to be composed.

"Mhmmm, that was amazing, Raze. I'd say I just found a genius. You are a genius," she said. She walked over to him. "How about you come to the academy?" she asked.

Riker's heart cracked when he heard that. His world started shattering.

"No. Like I said, that's for my brother Riker, and he already secured his spot," Raze said.

The woman glanced at Riker. There was a look of who is that again? in her eyes, and Riker saw it.

"Oh yes, that's not an issue, Raze. Your brother is still admitted, and you, on the other hand, can be a scholarship student," she said.

When the Baron and his wife heard that, they were immediately filled with joy. They could send both sons to the academy. Their family would truly be saved.

"No, I don't want that," Raze dropped a bomb.
