{Connor}
I easily scaled over the fence and slowly trudged up the hill toward the forest. With each step I took I could feel my heartbeat quicken. This wasn't me. I was never the type to explore so where was I going heading into the forest after a howl?
"God Connor, you must be clearly losing your mind, the sheriff strictly warned everyone to stay away from the forest this time of year." I thought to myself, as I stood on the outskirts of the forest's borders.
The reasonable thing for me to do would be to turn backward and make my way back home, probably get in the shower, and completely rid myself of this new-found adventurous spirit I seem to have developed.
Unfortunately at that moment, I was anything but reasonable, I took a step, crossing the borders of the forest, then another, and another, and soon enough I was pretty deep into the forest I couldn't even tell where I had come in from.
After a little while, my breathing started to change like I'd just run a mile and I couldn't tell where I was or where I was going anymore, "Great Connor, you're lost."
The thought of giving up yet again flashed through my mind and just as I had turned back to try to find my way home I heard the howl again. It was closer this time and it shook me to my very core making every part of me quake in utter fear.
I felt rooted to the ground, it was like I couldn't move a single muscle in my body. I didn't want to but I ended up turning my head towards the sound and staring back at me were the biggest and darkest vermillion colored eyes I had ever seen.
Time seemed to have slowed to a stop as our eyes locked together. My brain was complete mush and my skin had paled to a near-death white in shock.
Then suddenly I heard a low growl and the eyes disappeared almost immediately as they had appeared and only then did my brain kick back into gear.
A sudden burst of adrenaline shot through me as my usual flight response took over completely, I hurriedly ran away from the spot I felt rooted in and tried to navigate my way through the dense forest.
I couldn't quite explain it but it felt like the adrenaline surging through me somewhat made me faster and more agile. I ran through the forest, dodging and leaping over trees with such ease it felt almost unreal, my heart kept beating faster and faster.
I still had no idea where I was going but all I knew was I had to get out of the forest quickly. I was barely done with my train of thought when I heard a harsh growl from behind me, then shadowy figures streaked past and stopped just a few feet in front of me.
Slowly the thick fog of the forest dissipated around the shadowy figures in the distance revealing three black wolves snarling viciously at me.
Without giving me a moment to think or fully understand the situation I was in, one of the wolves lunged at me with its teeth bared.
As I stood there ready to accept my fate, my heart suddenly started racing and I found myself instinctively charging, right at the oncoming wolf.
In the split second we clashed, my arms grabbed the neck of the wolf and wrestled it to the ground locking it in a sleeper hold.
The wolf thrashed about on the ground as I kept my arms firmly locked around its neck, slowly tightening my hold till it began to cry out in pain.
At that point I didn't know who I was, much less what was happening, it felt like I was a spectator in my own body as I watched myself choke that wolf to death. A sharp pain assaulted me and my breathing grew haggard. The other two wolves had lunged at me, sinking their teeth deep into my flesh in an attempt to free the wolf that attacked me.
I could feel my strength leave my body, and my hold on the wolf began to weaken. The immense pain began to affect my brain and I had lost way too much blood but I couldn't suppress the rush I felt, it was a feeling that I didn't want to end.
Suddenly an intense jolt of pain coursed through my body, it clearly wasn't from the wolves biting into my flesh. I let out an involuntary scream as the pain became unbearable but as the sound escaped my lips it didn't sound like a scream.
It was a howl.
It felt like every single bone in my body was breaking and reforming at an insane speed, I could feel myself grow bigger. My hair began to grow freakishly fast and completely covered my entire body. Clearly, I was transforming into some sort of beast but, yet I felt a strange sense of calm, almost like it was a practically normal occurrence.
The wolves that were biting down on me seemed to have been scared by my sudden howl and retreated, trying to run away but there was no way I was going to let that happen, not after they had tried to kill me. I instantly snapped the neck of the wolf I was holding and lunged at the other two before they disappeared back into the thick fog of the forest.
I seemed to have doubled in size as I easily grabbed each wolf's neck in each hand, without so much as a thought I tightened my grip breaking both their necks, their pained whines filled the silent forest for a moment before their lifeless bodies dropped to the floor.
Again I let out a loud howl that reverberated throughout the now quiet forest and almost immediately the rush I felt along with the crazy adrenaline disappeared instantaneously leaving me in a state of weakness.
I looked down at the wolves I had just killed and stared into their lifeless hazel brown eyes, they clearly weren't the eyes that had stared back at me when I heard that devastating howl, "Did my fear get the best of me, making me perceive their ordinary brown eyes as something extraordinary?" I pondered.
I fell to my knees in exhaustion and I slowly started to pant. I began to drag myself across the dirt ground in case there were more wolves but as it seemed there was no strength left in me.
Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glint of something in a small puddle. As I looked into the water, there they were. The same golden yellow eyes I had seen when I entered the forest looked right back at me.
Before I could even get my thoughts together I collapsed, my eyes slowly started to close and my breathing slowed. As my eyes closed, a faint streak of white came into view but I couldn't be bothered to keep myself awake and finally went unconscious.
