{Connor}
I awoke to the sound of constant beeping and as I opened my eyes, they were assaulted by bright white lights. My eyes adjusted to the lights and I'd soon come to realize that I was in a hospital room.
I slowly turned to the side and noticed my mom sitting on the recliner with a magazine in her hand.
"Mom?" I called out to her as I sat upright.
"Connor! Thank God you're awake." She sprung up from the chair and gave me a long hug, You gave us quite a scare young man."
"I did?" I asked puzzled.
"The Sheriff found you by the forest border. God knows what you were doing up there."
"The forest?" My confusion was clearly apparent on my face. I didn't understand what I'd be doing in the forest, all I could remember was swinging outside and I heard a howl, everything after that was a blur and now I was waking up in a hospital.
"I'll go get the doctor, you've been out for three days but I'll try to see if you could get discharged today," Laura said walking out of the room.
"Three days!" I sat up even straighter, my brain began working overtime to try to remember what really happened after I heard that howl but everything was fuzzy.
After a short while the door swung open and Laura walked back in with a man wearing a white coat who I assumed was the doctor.
"Hello there Mr. Connor. I see you finally decided to join us, how are you feeling?" The doctor said walking towards me.
"Pretty good Doc, my brain just feels a bit fuzzy. I can't remember what happened." I answered honestly.
"That's normal with coma patients, I'm going to run a quick checkup on you to see if you're okay."
About 30 minutes, and a thorough checkup later, the doctor returned to my room with a file in his hand, "Well Mr. Connor I have to say you are as good as good gets, great even. You are in absolutely the best shape of your life. You're okay to be discharged today."
"Thank you very much, Doctor Pierce," Laura said shaking his hand.
"Always a pleasure Mrs. MacArthur, say hello to Jack for me." Doctor Pierce said before leaving the room.
"Okay that's it then, let's get you home honey." Laura beamed at me, "I brought you a fresh set of clothes."
I smiled back at her and took the clothes she brought. After a quick change, we were out the door of the hospital and walked to the car.
We pulled out of the parking lot and headed home. Laura was pretty quiet during the drive but I could tell she was anxious, clearly none of this made any sense to her and the one person who could answer her questions couldn't remember a thing.
I once again tried my hardest to remember what had happened, "anything no matter how small," I begged my brain. As I sat there deep in thought, a sudden crash brought me back to reality.
Laura let out a frustrated groan and got out of the car leaving me in the passenger seat. Turns out she had hit a tow truck, right at the traffic light.
A burly-looking man stepped out of the truck, "Oh come on, I just had this redone."
"I am so sorry Sir, I don't even know how this happened." Laura apologized.
"Yeah well sorry isn't going to fix my tail lights, or buff out the big ass dent on my rear bumper, now is it?" The man fumed.
"Of course, of course, I'll just write you a check and this will be all over. How does a thousand dollars sound?" Laura said as she ravaged through her bag for her checkbook.
Once she was done writing the check she handed it to him, "That should take care of your repairs. Again I am terribly sorry."
The man didn't bother to say anything, he just grunted with a scowl on his face and proceeded to take the check.
As he reached out to collect the check I grabbed his wrist and pulled his hand away from Laura, "Nice try douche bag, you're not getting a thousand dollars that easy."
"What the hell is this, let go of me, boy." The man bellowed but I just tightened my grip.
"Connor what do you think you're doing?" Laura cried out.
I couldn't quite explain but something felt odd about this man and this entire situation. As soon as he stepped out of his truck and began throwing his mad tantrum, it was like I could smell him, and as weird as this sounds; he did not smell angry, instead what I could smell off him was excitement.
Then foreign instincts kicked in and I got out of the car to stop him from taking money from Laura.
"Something doesn't feel right mom, I don't think you should be giving this man any money," I said still grabbing onto his wrist.
The man then grabbed my hand with his other hand in an attempt to free his wrist from my grasp but I didn't budge and my hold tightened and tightened until the man unwillingly fell to his knees.
"My wrist, you're gonna break my wrist. Let go of me you freak!" He shouted at me. Angered by what he called me, I swung my fist hitting him right in his face. His nose was clearly broken and blood was pouring out.
Right then the traffic lights turned green and Laura grabbed me by the arm and pulled me away from the man, "Enough Connor, stop making a scene and get back inside the car."
I reluctantly let go of the man's hand and walked back to the car. I watched Laura apologize to the man once again and push the check into his hand before hurriedly rushing back to the car and driving us the hell out of there.
