Chapter 15 - Continued

The memories slowly faded from the minds of the four Kings, leaving the conference hall unusually quiet. Doflamingo's entire life had just been exposed before people who had never met him before, from his childhood in Mariejois to his rise as the King of Dressrosa and his eventual encounter with the Nexus. For several moments, none of the Kings spoke as they each contemplated what they had witnessed.

Frieza was the first to break the silence. He leaned back in his chair with his usual arrogant expression, his long tail moving lazily behind him as he looked toward Doflamingo.

"Hohoho. I have to admit, for a monkey, that was much more entertaining than I expected."

Frieza's eyes narrowed slightly as he continued to observe the man sitting across from him.

"All that chatter before makes sense now. No wonder. You want the world to burn. The world that wronged you and took everything from you, you just want to watch it burn piece by piece. Hohohoho. I'm starting to like you, monkey."

Doflamingo's grin remained unchanged as he listened.

Frieza's expression became slightly more dismissive as he considered the rest of Doflamingo's life.

"But after everything you accomplished, you were satisfied with becoming the ruler of a single kingdom. You possessed connections throughout the underworld and even gained the support of Kaido, yet your ambitions eventually settled around maintaining your position as King of Dressrosa."

He gave a small laugh.

"Still, I suppose that is simply the limit of your world. For someone who was born at the top, you certainly learned how to climb."

Madara was the next to speak. His expression remained calm as he looked toward Doflamingo, but there was a noticeable trace of interest in his eyes.

"Hmm. Not bad. Compared to that hideous-looking creature's life, this was much more interesting."

Frieza's laughing expression froze as he heard Madara address him as a "hideous creature."

Madara's voice remained steady as he continued.

"Status, wealth, home, family. Every single aspect of your life was destroyed, yet you rose to the top."

Madara's eyes narrowed slightly.

"But now that I look at it, you have no desire to become a 'king,' do you?"

Doflamingo's smile became slightly more pronounced as he listened, but he did not interrupt. He still wore that wide, shit-eating grin, but there was a sense of gravity in his eyes.

Madara folded his arms.

"Perhaps you have finally realized that the world is larger than the throne you spent your life pursuing."

Doflamingo let out a quiet laugh.

"Fuffuffuffu..."

Meruem had remained silent throughout the two judgments. His expression was calm as he considered everything he had witnessed, and when he finally spoke, his voice carried none of the arrogance that had once defined him.

"You were born believing that strength and status determined the value of a person. The people beneath you were simply beneath you, and the people above you were entitled to their position because they possessed greater status. Then, through the decision of your father, you experienced the life of those you had once looked down upon."

Doflamingo's grin remained, but Meruem continued without hesitation.

"You learned what it meant to be powerless. You experienced hunger, fear, hatred, and suffering. You saw your family destroyed because of a decision you had no control over. Yet when you eventually regained your strength, you returned to almost the same belief you had possessed as a child."

Meruem's tone remained thoughtful rather than hostile.

"You became stronger and placed yourself above others once again."

He paused briefly.

"I once believed something similar."

The statement immediately drew the attention of the other Kings.

"I believed that the strong possessed greater value than the weak. I believed that strength gave meaning to existence and that those who possessed it had the right to determine the fate of those beneath them."

Meruem's eyes lowered slightly as he recalled something from his own life.

"Then I met someone who possessed almost no physical strength at all."

He did not need to say her name.

"That experience forced me to question everything I believed. I discovered that there were things strength could not measure, and that a person's value could not simply be determined by the power they possessed."

Meruem returned his gaze to Doflamingo.

"You experienced both sides of the hierarchy, yet your conclusion remained almost unchanged. That is the part of your journey I find incomplete."

Doflamingo's grin did not disappear, but his eyes became slightly more focused as he listened.

"However, I cannot deny that your rise was impressive. You were given everything, lost everything, and then built yourself into someone capable of standing above the very people who had once brought you down. You possess a strong will, and you refused to allow your circumstances to determine the position you would occupy."

Meruem's expression remained calm.

"Perhaps that is why your later evolution is more interesting than your early life. You have finally begun questioning the throne itself rather than simply trying to reach it."

The final judgment came from Aizen.

Throughout the previous three judgments, he had maintained the same peaceful smile. He had listened carefully to each of them, occasionally glancing toward Doflamingo as though he were studying an especially interesting experiment. Now, he slowly leaned forward and rested his chin against one hand.

"How fascinating."

His smile remained polite, but there was a sharpness hidden behind his eyes.

"Your life is filled with contradictions."

Doflamingo's attention shifted fully toward him.

"You despise the Celestial Dragons because they represent the very system that destroyed your family. Yet the ideology they taught you remained within you. You rejected their authority, but you never rejected the idea that someone should stand above everyone else."

Aizen's smile widened slightly.

"In fact, you spent your entire life attempting to become the very thing you hated."

The words were not spoken with hostility. If anything, Aizen sounded genuinely amused by the contradiction.

"That does not make your journey meaningless. Quite the opposite. I find the way you adapted to every change in your circumstances far more interesting than your hatred."

His smile remained unchanged.

"You never became attached to a single method of gaining power. Whenever one path became inconvenient, you simply found another."

Doflamingo's eyes narrowed slightly.

"That adaptability is perhaps your greatest strength. Perhaps that man with the spiky hair was correct. You stopped wanting to become a 'king' long ago. You have been walking a completely different path without even realizing it."

Aizen leaned back slightly and glanced briefly toward the other Kings before returning his attention to Doflamingo.

"The underworld, auction houses, slavers, Dressrosa, even the deal with Kaido. It seems like you want to break this world first and then crown a king yourself, while you remain in the shadows, manipulating everything you see."

Aizen's smile widened.

"The Devil Fruits in your world are said to choose their own users. It seems that you, the hidden manipulator of the world, were perfectly matched with the Ito Ito no Mi."

Doflamingo remained silent as Aizen finished his judgment.

For several moments, the conference hall was completely quiet. The four Kings had looked at the same life, yet each had found something entirely different within it. Frieza admired Doflamingo's ability to rebuild himself through strength and ambition, Madara respected his refusal to remain beneath those who had cast him down, Meruem saw an impressive journey that had nevertheless failed to completely change his understanding of hierarchy, and Aizen was fascinated by the evolution of his ambition after reaching the throne.

Doflamingo slowly leaned back in his chair, his grin never disappearing as he listened to the four judgments. If anything, his smile had only grown wider. For perhaps the first time in a very long while, he was surrounded by people whose words were actually worth listening to.

"Fuffuffuffu..."

Doflamingo laughed quietly to himself.

This conference was already turning out to be much more interesting than he had expected.
