I opened my eyes, and a blinding ray of sunlight hit me straight in the face. Not pleasant at all.
Groaning, I wanted nothing more than to curl back under the blanket and continue sleeping. Luckily, today was supposed to be my free day.
But just as I began to drift off again, it struck me - this ceiling above me… it was wooden. Completely unfamiliar. I stared at it for a couple of seconds, trying to process that fact.
My heart skipped a beat. I jumped to my feet and spun my head around in panic, trying to figure out where the hell I was.
To my surprise, it wasn't prison bars and a dirty toilet in front of me. Instead, I found myself in a cozy little room with green wallpaper and a wide wooden window.
Beside the bed I had just been lying on, there was a nightstand. On top of it sat a white vase filled with yellow flowers and… a giant snail?
Yeah. Better not touch that.
I was just about to check the window and see where I had ended up, when I heard footsteps approaching the room. Light, casual steps, with someone softly humming to themselves.
And no, it wasn't like in a horror movie, where a masked maniac sings a creepy nursery rhyme in a cheerful tone. This was a soft, pleasant, girlish voice.
A few seconds later, the door finally opened.
A young woman stepped inside, with only a towel wrapped around her head, hiding her face from me -and me from her. But honestly, my eyes were far too busy staring at her assets, bouncing and swaying with every step she took.
She walked right past me, sat down on the bed, pulled the towel off her head, and began reaching toward the nightstand.
And then she froze.
Slowly, she turned her head in my direction. Our eyes met, and the look of horror on her face was undeniable.
The room fell into complete silence.
I didn't want to speak first, afraid I'd scare her even more. She, on the other hand, seemed too shocked to say anything at all. And so, the silence dragged on for nearly thirty seconds.
Finally, I felt I had to say something, anything, to break the awkward tension. Maybe even ask how I ended up here.
I opened my mouth.
"Uh… hi. Let me introduce myself. My name is Yan, and I just wanted to ask -"
Before I could even finish, she shot to her feet, grabbed the vase from the nightstand, and hurled it straight at me with all her strength.
I had no time to dodge.
The vase smashed right against my head, shattering into pieces. The shards rained down to the floor together with me.
And in that last fleeting moment, just before I lost consciousness, one terrifying realization hit me.
I had been standing there completely naked the whole time...
