I wake up groggy. I peel my eyes open and then close them instantly, the light is blinding. I try again but squint until I can see properly. I'm not in secure anymore.
By the looks of things I'm in some sort of hospital bay. My left wrist has been cuffed to the bed pole. There's wires and monitors attached to me and a cannula is in my hand, I can see I'm attached to a drip. What the fuck is going on.
I quickly sit up in bed quietly and start pulling at the wires, I have to get out of here. I remove the cuff around my arm which causes the monitor to go off, the nurse that glued my head comes running in, in a panic, her eyes wide. She scans the room with her eyes then they land directly on me.
Any thoughts of escaping go right out the window as the nurse comes bundling over and pushes me back down gently so I'm sitting down on the bed.
'I'm glad to see you awake Hope but you need to stay in bed' I lay back and the nurse reattaches the wires.
She then pulls up a chair and sits down.
'How do you feel?' She asks
'I'm fine! Why am I here? I snap. I don't mean to be rude or hostile but I hate not knowing what's happening and right now I have no clue.
She looks me in the eye and smiles reassuringly
'You passed out in secure hun, you were lying and choking in your own vomit, you barely had a pulse when I arrived, you certainly gave us quite the scare, it's not often we get a code red' she explains.
I stare at her in confusion, she can probably read my face as she elaborates on a code red.
'A code red is a medical emergency, you had a concussion, your eyes were reacting when I did your tests but your right eye was slower, Mr Tiz made the decision to keep you under close surveillance in secure'.
She takes a deep breath standing up 'thankfully you were there to be honest otherwise you might of died, it takes at least half an hour for an ambulance to get here, if I hadn't of gotten to you when I did you'd of asphyxiated on your own vomit' she smiles softly then leaves, walking over to the desk in the middle of the beds and sitting herself down.
I watch as the nurse pick up the phone, she talks quietly for a moment then puts the phone down. She then gets back up and walks to the door.
She stands there for a moment before I hear footsteps echoing, I know the sound to well by now to not know who it is.
Mr Tiz steps in and starts talking quietly with the nurse. I watch them speak back and forth for a while.
When they've finished talking he strides over to me, he grabs a chart that's attached to the end of the bed and starts reading it. I need to pee.
'Sir' his eyes sharply look up at me, he frowns
'What is it hope? Can you not see I'm reading this'
He gestures to the chart his currently holding.
'Sorry sir, I can wait' I mumble quietly. I don't want to wait but i don't want to piss him off.
'Speak up, what is it?' I glance up and ask shyly
'When can I get out of bed, I um need to go to the toilet' his face blanches white then he calls the nurse and security on his walkie talkie.
The nurse comes running back in and over to us like a bat out of hell. She stops by the bed and detaches the drip then takes off the wires, detaching me from the machines. A security guard comes in and he undoes the cuff. Then the nurse points to a door I hadn't noticed before.
'The toilets there, do you need help?' She asks. I shake my head in response.
I get up on shaky legs. Once I've gotten my balance I walk over to the toilet and go in.
When I'm finished I walk back to the bed and sit on the edge. Mr Tiz has gone. The nurse comes back a few minutes later, She glances over to me
'Back in bed hope, you won't be discharged until the morning so get some rest' She calls.
I lay back down, there's no point arguing with the nurse, there's not so much to do so now I'm looking at the lights on the ceiling, the one above me is bright, it flickers slightly every now and again. It's annoying but I focus and count the flickers and at some point I doze off back to sleep.
