Aira stared at the page, then slowly closed the book halfway. She sighed, then opened it again. Because despite everything, she wanted to know more.
What did this book mean? And why had she happened to read it?
Did it mean something that she had walked into the royal library and somehow ended up in front of this particular book, despite the countless other books she could have chosen?
Was it destiny? Was the Lightpool somehow guiding her?
Or was she simply incredibly lucky, or incredibly unlucky?
Aira stared at the glowing runes surrounding the book.
"No." She shook her head. "I shouldn't think about that right now."
For the first time since arriving in this strange world, Aira finally had something that felt like an answer.
Not a complete answer. Not even close. But enough to make one terrifying possibility impossible to ignore.
