The sun rose softly over Demon's Fang Village, but Rosie woke with a nervous flutter in her chest. Two battles were behind her, and she had won both! One down, eight to go. But today's fight promised to be tricky — not with loud drums or whipping vines, but with shadows and surprises.
Milo was already waiting with a grin. "Your next enemy is called Yue, the Shadow Phantom. Rumor says he can disappear like mist and strike when you least expect it."
Rosie was skeptical. "Disappear? Sounds spooky. How do you fight someone you can't see?"
Milo shrugged, "Guess you'll find out!"
Soon, the village square fell quiet. A strange breeze swept past. Suddenly, soft footsteps — but no one was there!
Then a flicker of movement near the well — Yue appeared like a streak, dressed all in black with a hood hiding most of his face. Only his bright eyes shone through.
"Ready to lose, pink hair?" Yue's voice was smooth, almost whispery.
Rosie tightened her grip on her glowing wooden spoon. "Not a chance!"
The fight began quietly as Yue melted into the shadows, darting around Rosie like a ghost playing hide-and-seek.
Rosie spun, searching for any sign. She swung her spoon, sending out waves of glowing Qi that lit up the space.
Suddenly, a shadow flashed near her ear — a fast slap with a small fan! It tickled but missed.
Rosie laughed. "Is that supposed to scare me?"
Yue disappeared again, this time leaving behind floating teacups! The delicate porcelain spun in the air, forming a circle around Rosie like flying saucers.
The villagers gasped and backed away. The teacups whirled closer, ready to strike with sharp energy.
Rosie's eyes widened. "Flying teacups? Really?"
Milo chuckled. "Classic Shadow Phantom trick!"
Rosie thought fast. She concentrated her Qi on the spoon and swung it through the air. The glowing trail cut clean through the invisible strings holding the teacups.
Crash! The cups broke with a shower of sparkles and tea leaves.
Yue reappeared smiling. "Impressive, but can you catch me?"
Yue whizzed around, attacking with quick strikes and disappearing into shadows. Rosie jumped, dodged, and countered as best she could.
At one point, she slipped, nearly falling into a bucket of water. Milo shouted, "Careful! No swim lessons today!"
Rosie laughed but stayed focused.
Finally, she had an idea.
She held the spoon out and imagined glowing stars floating ahead, creating a sparkling net made from her Qi.
As Yue tried to vanish, he was caught inside the glowing trap.
Surprised, his eyes widened. "No! How did you—?"
With a quick swing of her spoon, the net tightened and glowed brighter, trapping Yue's shadows.
He smiled and nodded. "You win, pink-haired warrior. Your spirit shines bright even in darkness."
The villagers erupted in cheers. Milo ran up, hugging Rosie. "You did it! Three battles, three wins!"
Rosie grinned. "One step closer to the school... and a lot of fun along the way."
That night, Rosie lay under the stars, thinking about her battles — vines, drums, shadows, and flying teacups.
She touched the Starbound Charm around her neck, still glowing softly.
"No matter what comes next," she said, "I'll face it with heart, laughter, and a trusted spoon."
