Chapter 1 - A Friendship That Found Its Way Back

"Some people arrive and make such a beautiful impact on your life, you can barely remember what life was like without them."

It all began in college — two strangers, a boy and a girl, who had never met before. Their paths crossed, but something unexplainable drew them closer. What started as a few conversations slowly turned into regular chats, jokes, and laughter. They became bestfriends. The boy had always been the silent type, lost in his thoughts, overthinking everything, scarred by the struggles of his life and introverted. But this girl — she was different. She listened. She understood him. She never judged him, and she saw through his silence. She became the only person he could truly open up to. He told her about his childhood pain, his family problems, how he had to grow up too soon, how he always felt unlucky, and how the world often treated him unfairly. She never pitied him — she simply stayed. And in her presence, he finally felt peace. She was the only one who could make him smile without even trying, Both were lucky to have each other as friends, because the boy is also made efforts to befriend her he waited for her to become his best friend, They didn't fall in love. It was a bond deeper than romance, a strong bond based on mutual understanding taking care of each other it was something eternal, something pure. They were best friends, pure friendship with full of understanding, loyal, joy, care, no faking only true faces.

After the semester exams --

Girl (smiling softly): Well... looks like we made it through.

Boy (grinning):Yeah… together.

Boy (grinning): barely. Thanks to your notes, I didn't fail maths.

Girl (laughs): I told you to start studying earlier, didn't I?

Boy (looking a bit quiet for a second): So... you'll be going hometoday evening?

Girl (nods):Yeah. Evening train. You?

Boy: Same. I'll miss this weird college chaos. And... you.

Girl (pauses, eyes softening): Me too. Honestly... you became really special to me.

Boy (with a small smile): I waited long to hear that. Took me weeks to get you to even call me 'best friend'.

Girl (shakes head with a smile): You earned it. You were always there. Even when I didn't know I needed someone.

Boy: I'll always be there. Even if we're apart.

Girl (extends hand): Promise?

Boy (takes her hand and shakes it gently): Promise.

Girl (smiling with a little sadness): Bye ,Take care, okay?

Boy: You too. Don't forget me while during in semester holidays.

Girl: Never.

They raised their hands and shared a gentle handshake a symbol of the bond they'd built. After that, they parted ways. She had to travel 251.8 kilometers to return to her hometown. He took the road back to his. Time passed, but their bond only grew stronger. Laughter filled chats, emotional check-ins, and that rare comfort only true friends know it all remained unshaken. One quiet evening, he picked up the phone and called her.

Boy (light tone): Hey… there's a small family function coming up. Nothing grand but I'd really like you to come. We could even make it a one-day trip… just spend some time, like we talked before about a trip.

There was a pause on the other end a soft silence filled with surprise, then a smile.

Girl (with a warm laugh): I'd like that. It's been a while... I'll be there.

The day had arrived — the boy's family function and the little one-day trip they'd been planning. She had to travel 251.8 km just to be there. It was truly mattered to him. At around 6:30 in the evening, the boy called her, concern evident in his voice

Boy (gently): Hey… where are you right now?

Girl (a bit embarrassed, with a soft laugh): Sorry yaar… I missed the first bus. I'm waiting for the second one now.

Boy (reassuringly): Okay… be careful, alright? Make sure you catch this one on time.

Girl (light-hearted): Okay dude, I will. Don't worry!

He waited for her for hours, glancing at the clock every few minutes, hoping she'd show up any moment. The sky was getting dark , and there was still no sign of her. He tried calling once, twice, then countless times but her phone was not reachable. A strange sense of worry began to grow in his chest. As the hours passed and the night grew darker, exhaustion slowly took over his anxious heart. Still holding onto a faint hope, he eventually drifted into a restless sleep Later that night, as the clock struck 12:00 AM, a sudden knock on the door startled the boy from his uneasy sleep. He quickly got up, heart racing, and hurried to check. To his shock and a relief there she was. His best friend stood at the door, a little tired, slightly messy from the journey, but smiling like always.

Boy (surprised): Yaar! Why this late? I was so damn worried! I called you so many times...

Girl (scratching her head with a smile): I know... I'm really sorry yaar, my bad. I missed the bus again, and the second one took ages. I didn't want to wake anyone at this hour... but I couldn't just not come. He let out a sigh a mix of frustration and relief then smiled faintly.

Boy (softly): You're mad, you know that? But I'm glad you're safe.

They both shared a brief laugh, the tension slowly fading into comfort. She looked up at the quiet sky and said:

Girl: Hey...let's go to the terrace. The sky looks nice tonight.

Boy (nods): Hmm... sure. Let's go.

And just like that, the two of them climbed up to the terrace a peaceful silence settling between them as stars scattered across the night sky, watching over a friendship that had just become something unforgettable. Time seemed to pause. They laughed, talked, and shared thoughts that only made sense at 1 AM under the open sky. From silly memories to deep confessions, the night became their secret world.

Girl (smiling): You know… this is actually kind a magical. Who thought I'd end up here tonight?

Boy (smirking): Yeah… after making me almost get a heart attack from stress, now you call it magical?

Girl (laughing): Ayee… sorry yaar. But seriously, this moment… it feels nice. Peaceful, just us.

Boy (softly): I was waiting for this day. A moment like this with you… under the stars.

The conversations flowed, sometimes deep, sometimes filled with pure nonsense, making jokes, laughing ,logicless conversations but every word stitched their bond tighter. By the time they checked the clock, it was already 3:00 AM. As the soft wind brushed over the terrace, the two of them continued laughing under the stars. Suddenly, a distant ringtone echoed from downstairs — the boy's phone, forgotten in his room.

Boy (standing up slowly): Wait here… someone's calling. I'll be right back.

He rushed down, still smiling from their midnight talk. Picking up the phone, he looked at the caller ID it was her father's number.

Boy (surprised): Hello uncle? Is everything okay?

Father's (voice trembling): Son… I… I didn't know how to say this, but… I have to tell you something… something very difficult.

Boy (voice concerned): What happened uncle? Tell me…

Father (voice breaking): My daughter… she… she passed away. There was an accident. The bus she was on… it crashed. It happened around 11 PM. She didn't make it…

When he heard those words over the phone, his world froze. Shock gripped his chest . His hands began to tremble. Tears welled up uncontrollably as his breath grew shaky. He dropped the phone… And broke. Shivering, barely able to stand, he whispered, "No… no, this can't be true…" But deep down, a storm was already swirling inside his heart. Without a second thought, he sprinted back up to the terrace each step fuel led by desperation, by disbelief, by the hope that maybe… just maybe… And then She was there. Sitting exactly where he'd left her, her gentle smile glowing in the moonlight. For a second, his heart skipped a beat. She looked at him with those same kind eyes, as if nothing had changed… as if everything was still okay. But in that haunting beauty, Her presence was beyond the physical… She looked peaceful, yet carried a sadness… It was so beautiful, it hurt. He didn't know if it was a dream, a ghost, or just his aching heart playing tricks on him... but to him, she was real. And that was enough. She had come…One last time. For him. His eyes filled with tears. He couldn't hold it anymore. He rushed to her, and hugged her tightly as if she might vanish any second. And then… he broke down. Completely. Every emotion he'd buried, every thought he had pushed away, came pouring out of him in a flood of pain and love.

Boy (crying, voice breaking): "Please… please don't leave me here… I can't take this… I'll become all alone… I swear I will." "You're the only one who ever understood me… truly. No one ever saw me the way you did." "Everyone else just judged me, got tired of my overthinking, ignored my silence… but not you. You stayed. You listened. You handled my madness like it was nothing. Like it was normal." "You were never just a friend to me… you were my person. My peace. My bestie." "Please…I'll beg you if I have to… don't go. Don't leave me behind in this cruel world. Not you." "I don't want anyone else. Just you. Just us. Like always."

As the silence between them lingered under the moonlit sky, his cries grew heavier, his grip around her tighter. But the pain… it was unbearable. And then something shifted within him a storm of despair that refused to calm. His hands trembled as his eyes darted around the terrace. And there… near the corner… lay an old iron rod. His breath quickened. His vision blurred with tears. Without thinking, without hesitation, he picked it up. "If you die... I die too," he whispered, voice shaking like a broken string. And before anything could stop him, he lifted the rod with trembling arms and with all his force, slammed it down onto his own head. The sound was sickening. Blood dripped from his head. His knees gave out. He collapsed, but still whispering through cracked lips: "I'm coming with you... wait for me... please wait..." He was ready. Ready to leave the world behind. Ready to follow her… Just as he collapsed, ready to slip away from this world, a sudden sting hit his cheek.

SLAP.

His teary eyes flew open. She was standing before him, eyes fierce, yet flooded with pain She knelt beside him, her hands shaking as she cupped his bleeding face.

Girl :"You stupid... stubborn, emotional idiot!" she choked through tears. "What the hell are you doing?!""Why would you even think of ending your life like this? Just because I'm gone?!" Her voice cracked with pain. "I may not be there with you anymore… but that doesn't mean you're alone." "You were the only one who ever saw me… truly saw me. You understood me in ways no one else could. And I… I felt that too. You were my strength, my comfort, my best friend in this whole wide world." "And now… look at you…" she said, falling to her knees, "broken, hopeless… blaming yourself. But listen to me, please… dying won't bring me back. Dying will only take away everything you still have." "Your parents… they're waiting for your success. Your family needs your light. This world still has a place that only you can fill."

She placed a gentle hand over his heart.

"This heart of yours… it's full of love, kindness, and pain. But you were never weak— never." "If you die today… it'll break my soul more than death ever could. So live… please live. For your dreams. For your family. For me. I want you to prove that even after pain, love can survive… even after losing me, you'll rise." "And hey..." her voice softened, "you know what? I'm the lucky one. I had you as my best friend. You're the one person who never judged me, who accepted every version of me… and loved me as best friend for it."

She tried to smile through her tears.

"I don't need anything more than that. The fact that you were ready to die for me…that's enough. That's more than enough to know how real our bond was.

"She took a deep breath, her voice fading gently.

"But now, you need to promise me… you'll live. You'll take care of yourself. You'll lead the life we always talked about. I'll always be with you. Not in body… but in every breath, every step you take."

She leaned closer, cupping his face.

"You're not alone. Not now. Not ever." "Okay, my dear best friend?"

She stepped back slowly, her voice a final whisper in the wind…

"And now… I must go. I saw you one last time... That's enough for me to smile… even from the other side."

Boy (crying, broken): "Please…please don't go… I can't accept this… I can't!"

He sobbed harder.

He looked up at her tear-soaked face — her spirit, her soul —and whispered with trembling lips:

"I'll always love you… as my best friend. That'll never change." "You're the only best friend I've ever had… the only one I'll ever have." His breath hitched. He clutched his chest. "I promise… I'll become successful, not for the world — but for you." "I'll take care of my family… and I'll take care of your family too." "I'll help them. Support them. Just like you helped me. Just like you always protected me." He shut his eyes tightly, still crying, but slowly standing tall.

Boy(emotional, tearful):"Promise me one thing…" "If God is taking you from me as a best friend… then make Him give you back to me…as my daughter."

He clutched his chest, breathing heavily, forcing back another wave of tears. "One day, I'll have a happy family… I'll find a good life partner who'll understand me… and I'll build a peaceful, loving home." "When I become stable… when I've grown stronger… and I'm ready to protect and love again…" He looked up at her fading light. "That's when I want you to come back.""Reborn… not just as someone else in the world… but my daughter. My baby girl." His voice trembled. "Please…ask Him. Ask God to let you come to me. I'll be waiting. I'll be ready. I'll welcome you into this world again with open arms." "And when you come back, I'll give you everything. I'll raise you with love, care, protection… and every single thing we dreamed of sharing as best friends.""I will love you as a father… as a best friend I never forgot."

She looked at him one last time —eyes shimmering with unspoken emotions. As the wind gently danced around her fading presence, she reached out, waving her hand with a soft, tearful smile. Her voice echoed like a whisper in his soul…

Girl(spirit form):I promise… I will comeback. As your daughter. Just wait for me…

And then, like light melting into the sky… She vanished Carried by the breeze… Leaving behind a silence filled with faith, love… and eternal hope. He stood still broken, yet breathing. Her words etched deep in his heart. He cried… not because she was gone… but because he believed. He believed in her. And in God. And in the bond they shared that even death could not break. Days turned into months… Months into years… But the pain never left him. He became quieter, withdrawn — an introvert who held everything inside. He never moved on emotionally…but he kept living — for her. For that promise. He worked hard, every single day… Climbing from nothing, pushing through failure, chasing success not for fame, but to build the life he once told her about. The life of a stable, strong, loving father. And he did it.

12 years later…

He was no longer a lost boy — he had become a man. A successful one. Humble. Kind. Respected. And married to a woman with a pure heart who truly loved him. When she became pregnant, his heart whispered that the time was near. He prayed to God every single day…

Boy(praying):Please… I don't want anything else. Just bless me with a baby girl. Bring her back to me… just like You promised.

The day came. His wife was in the hospital. The delivery had begun. He waited outside, nervous…sweating… his heart racing. Minutes felt like years. Until finally, the doctor walked out with a smile. Doctor:Congratulations… you have a healthy baby girl!

In that moment… His heart melted. He dropped to his knees — and cried. Cried not in pain… but in overwhelming joy. He remembered her smile… her wave… her final promise. He rushed inside, looked at the newborn wrapped in soft blankets… And froze. Because there she was — the same eyes, the same peaceful face. It was her.

Boy(softly, with tears):You came back to me… you really came back… my best friend.

He hugged his wife tightly, tears soaking her shoulder. That day, his heart was whole again. From then on… He raised his daughter with all the love he had buried for years. Not just as a father But as the best friend he had once lost… and now found again. And so, A bond that death tried to break… Was born again through life. In a cradle of love, One friendship found its way back And this time, it would never be lost again. He remembered everything — her laughter, her support, her goodbye… and now, her return. They were different by faith — He was Hindu and his name was Sharan. She was Christian and her name was Sharon. But their souls had met beyond religion, beyond time. Because sometimes… God doesn't look at religion when He writes a story of eternal love and friendship. He simply chooses two hearts. And when one heart breaks —He sends it back… to heal the other. This story is not just about friendship… it's about connection, loss, hope, and rebirth. She may have left, but a part of her stayed — in his heart, in his purpose, and in the little girl who brought his smile back. Some bonds never die. They just find new ways to return.

"In a world that divides by names and beliefs, their bond was proof — that friendship needs no permission, no similarity, no reason… just a connection, honest and real."
