Eden pov
Leif ran off and disappeared after I told him about my life with his children over the years.
I can't guess what he's thinking, but I can sense it: he must be feeling guilt, agony, and thoughts that will haunt him for the rest of his days. The only thing I've kept quiet about is our mother's involvement in all this, not because I love her, but because I don't want to expose my children to an unpleasant situation.
The day Leif finds out what our mother did, everything will burn, I have no doubt.
"I think you should have told her, that witch doesn't deserve to breathe," Niamh complains.
"And let Leif feel even worse and destroy everything?" I counter.
My wolf answers me with a snort.
"Enough, I know what I'm doing. Well, I think so..
-No, you really don't have the slightest idea what you're doing, Eden. You weren't even planning on coming back. If it weren't for those three brainless puppies, you wouldn't be
in this mess.
"If you insult them again, I swear I'lI get rid of our partner as soon as I find him." | threatened in a whisper. "And that will hurt you a lot."
-Well, we'll have another one, he mocks.
What kind of freakish wolf came to me? How can she possibly. take it as a joke that she could do that to our destined one? She's not right in the head, she needs therapy.
"No, you're the one who needs to see someone. You shouldn't have taken care of those children. In the end, they repaid you by abandoning you and causing you the most anguish in your life.
" I try to argue back, but I don't. It's not that I believe what Niamh says; it's that I'm hurt because my children left me.
"Besides, what kind of person threatens to destroy their partner?" he grumbles.
"Wow, you do have feelings, I mock as I open the door.
If my senses weren't more developed than a human's, I would have thought the house was completely silent. My little ones are quiet, probably listening to the instructions of
the housekeepers, who are preparing them for their bath.
I rush up the stairs, just as Kevin is standing in front of them in the hallway, starting to scold them.
a Look for
-Just because the alpha believes you doesn't mean I will, do you understand?
"What are you telling them?" I chide Kevin, but he doesn't flinch.
"Haven't you ever thought that they lied to you too?" he asks me.
That they lied to me? Yeah, I heard you found them when they were four. They could have put together a whole master plan with some adult who... Stop being paranoid, Kevin. If they're here, it's because they're Leif's children. He himself recognized them as his own. Why are you distrusting your alpha's word, huh?
I put a hand on my waist and look at him suspiciously. He swallows.
-Even you, who should be his most faithful companion, doubt him. And you say these
poor children are lying?
-No, I don't doubt my alpha. How can you insinuate that? But I am aware that everything that happened has affected him. You don't know everything that...
"Of course I know, Kevin," I growl. "News about what your kind is doing reaches the human world, too."
"Your kind?" he asks, stupefied.
-Yes, because even for werewolves there are categories.
My fleas giggle, which is silenced by my stern gaze.
-Let's go to the bathroom, I'll take care of it.
The employees protest protocol, but seem relieved not to have to deal with the supposed
"lice" that I know my puppies don't have.
"I wish they did and their heads itched like never before," I tell them as I get them ready for the bath in one of the bedrooms. "Didn't you think I might have a heart attack?"
-But you are very healthy, Aunt Eden, - Lunaire replies.
"I don't care. I felt the goddess of death breathing down my neck, I snarl. "Now we're trapped here."
"You shouldn't have come looking for us, Auntie. You were supposed to be free, Riven says, frowning.
Q Look for
"You wanted to meet your dad, right?" I ask in a more sympathetic tone as I approach them.
The three of them take my hand. They don't respond, but I know it's true.
-Why do you never want to talk to me about Raisa? What happened to her? Leif wants to know.
"He doesn't deserve to know." Dean says. "He hurt her."
I know, honey, but... No, not as long as he's a cruel person and wants to punish her, - Lunaire mutters.
But she's dead, right? Yes, but we don't want him to, visit her. We believe that people in heaven can listen and suffer.
"Okay, we won't tell them." | sigh. "Don't do anything like that again, okay? I'd rather live here than be separated from you."
