Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

Eden pov

Leaving human territory to return to the land that was once my home was unthinkable for me. until that trio of fleas escaped from me. Weeks ago, I heard them talking about how much they wanted to stop their dad and stop the cruelties we see daily on the internet or television, but I never thought they'd escape.

Although I always had the option to let them go and let them deal with that bastard Leif, I just couldn't stop myself from coming for them. It took a lot of adjusting to having them in my life, but now I love them like my own children and I don't plan on living without them.

I know they didn't run away because they don't love me, but rather the opposite: they want me to stop running away and live a full life.

' don't have to explain myself to you, Leif, I respond to my furious brother, whose clothes are in disarray from another of his tantrums. "Just give me the kids, and we'll leave quietly

so…

"I said no, he says, coming closer.

Even though I'm strong and can fight ten men on my own, my brother still intimidates me.

He's much stronger and more muscular than the last time I saw him.

My nephews run toward me, and all three surround me, growling at their dad: They've only transformed a few times, as, for some reason, they prefer being human. However, they're too good to do it right away.

They inherited Leif's talent

"Move back, I'm not going to hurt you, Leif says irritably.

"Darling, I think you'd lose out here," I mock. "Don't underestimate them for being puppies.

You should see how my ex did when he came to me with a judge demanding we get

married"

I can't help but laugh every time I remember Sam offering to be the father of my three children, and then getting bitten by them. It's a memory that completely recharges my life.

Anyway, he still hasn't given up. He doesn't care that my little fleas turned into wolves, or even that I'm a wolf. He keeps trying to get me to forgive him. I did it a while ago, just because it makes me laugh, but I definitely won't be his partner again.

-You exposed the children to a human male? You're a...!

My little ones growl more and push Leif back, who looks like he's about to faint. He's never been like this before, except maybe because of Raisa, so I'm sure this is affecting him deeply.

"Eden, it's so nice to see you again, Kevin says, looking dazed.

He's actually gotten a lot better looking; he's not the skinny kid he used to be. However, he's not my partner, and I'm not going to waste my time with someone who isn't. I've had enough of Sam.

"What's up?" I reply, before looking back at Leif. "And no, bro. That guy was my boyfriend right when the kids arrived but he chased us."

Vou should have.. And get attention? No, thanks. I was busy taking care of my kids. We need to talk, so you won't leave either.

"Couldn't you just pretend we never showed up?" I suggest, but he shakes his head. "We

were fine

"No, Aunt,' Lunaire says. "We, came to find him so you don't have to keep running away."

"I love you, but you're in trouble, young lady, i warn her, on the verge of tears. "You

shouldn't have done this to me. Am I really that bad?"

"No!" they exclaim, dismayed.

-Wasn't it enough for you that I showed you my love by sharing my expensive Serrano ham? And the time you got lice and

"Lice!" Leif shouts, walking away and scratching his head. "You let them get lice?"

"Well, when you spend days in certain woods, it's inevitable," I shrug. "Or what? Did you never get it? I remind you, when you were nine...

-That's enough! The three of you are going to go upstairs now to be checked out. You, Eden, let's talk in the garden.

"We don't have lice," I grumble. "Well, I don't."

"Nor us, Auntie," my three fleas say in unison. "We make sure we don't have them before we come. Besides, we don't even transform."

•,

-My employees will take care of that. Kevin, take them.

"Yes, alpha," he answers with resignation.

I put my arms around the children.

"Leif, please," I beg. "We're all tired. I'd rather.."

His furious gaze leaves no room for reply. I'll have to talk to him, no matter what.

-Okay, let them go take a bath.

"We want Aunt Eden to stay." Riven says.

"But of course he'll stay," Leif smiles, though I can see the suffering in his eyes. "He has a lot to explain."

Once the staff takes the children upstairs, Leif takes me by the arm and leads me to his

for

office.

"You don't want to make a scene," | warn him. "The kids are very protective of me, and…"
