Chapter 2 - Eternal shenron, grant my wi- wait wrong wish granter.

"Whaaaat!?"

The word burst out of me, half shock, half squeal.

My brain was still catching up, but my mouth was already sprinting.

"Wait, wait, wait, hold on. A proposal? From you? You are... oh my god, you're a magical girl mascot, aren't you? You totally are! You are like the Kero to my Sakura!"

I leaned in, practically nose to nose with the little thing, hands gripping my desk like I was about to levitate from sheer hype. "Is this for real? Am I dreaming? Is this some kind of gacha collab event hallucination!?"

My heart was doing laps. One second ago, I was raging over my failed run, and now I was being propositioned by a literal magical girl mascot cat thingy with glowing ruby eyes.

"Okay, okay, okay, so what, you are gonna tell me I can be a magical girl now, right? Like, actual magical girl. Transformations, powers, the whole deal?" I laughed, high-pitched and giddy. "Because if that is what you are saying, I am in! Oh my god, I am so in!"

Kyubey tilted his head, calm as ever. "That is correct. I can grant you a contract. In exchange for one wish, you will receive the power of a magical girl."

I slapped both hands to my cheeks. "One wish?! Like... any wish?!"

"Yes. Any wish within the bounds of possibility."

I nearly fell out of my chair. "OH MY GOD, IT IS REAL! I KNEW THIS DAY WOULD COME! Magical girl powers, a wish, a cute mascot, ʷᶦᵗʰ ᵃ ʷᵉᶦʳᵈˡʸ ᵘⁿˢᵉᵗᵗˡᶦⁿᵍ ᶠᵃᶜᵉ But that doesn't matter! This is literally every magical girl trope rolled into one, and it's all happening to me!" I smiled brightly, my grin stretching wide.

I was pacing now, hands waving wildly in the air, words tumbling out faster than my brain could keep track. "Do I get a transformation sequence? Sparkles? Theme music? Do I have to fight monsters? Are there costumes?! Am I gonna get an over-the-top weapon? Oh my god, wait, do not tell me, let me guess, it is something crazy like a hammer or a scythe or, or, no, do not tell me, I want it to be a surprise!"

I spun back toward Kyubey, eyes practically glowing. "Okay. Tell me the rules. Tell me everything. I need the full rundown. Hit me with the lore, magical mascot man!"

Silence.

Kyubey just sat there on my floor, tail flicking lazily, eyes unblinking. For a second, I wondered if I had just imagined everything, if maybe I was finally going crazy after too many all-nighters and instant noodles.

Then, finally, his voice brushed across my mind again.

"You are unusually eager. But that's wonderful to see! It's great to have such a passionate partner!"

My cheeks heated up, and I rubbed the back of my neck, embarrassed. "Well, yeah, duh. This is the part where the hero signs the contract and gets the cool powers. I have been waiting my whole life for this."

Kyubey tilted his head, almost like he was curious, but his tone stayed perfectly even. "Very well. As a magical girl, you will be granted power. That power will be unique to you, shaped by your soul and your wish. With it, you will take on the duty of fighting witches."

I perked up instantly. "Witches? Like, broomsticks and cauldrons, or-"

Kyubey shook his head. "Witches are manifestations of despair. They are creatures that spread curses and misfortune wherever they appear. Ordinary humans cannot see them, but they are responsible for much of the suffering in the world, bringing despair and misfortune in their wake. As a magical girl, it will be your duty to hunt them and any familiars they create down and rid them from this world."

My heart was hammering from excitement, because this was soooo coooool! "So they are like the bosses in a roguelike. Invisible monsters that only the chosen ones can fight. And I am that chosen one. Oh my god! This is amazing!"

Kyubey went on, calm and cheerful, like he was explaining the rules of a game. "In return for this duty, I will grant you a wish. Any wish that is possible. Whatever you desire most, I can make real. That is the foundation of our contract."

I gripped my desk again, knuckles white, brain practically exploding with possibilities. "Any wish. Like, for real, for real."

"Yes," Kyubey said simply.

I sat back hard in my chair, heart still racing, mind already spinning with wild ideas. This was it. This was my chance. The chance to be someone different! Someone new and better! My chance at life!

"But wait…" I mumbled out loud, staring at my ceiling. "Aren't all magical girls supposed to be high schoolers?"

Images flashed in my head—anime girls in sailor uniforms, fighting monsters after class, juggling homework and heroics. Bright lights, glittery transformations, best friends at their side. It was the perfect picture.

For a second, I let myself imagine it. me, in a crisp new uniform, hanging out with friends during lunch, laughing about stuff that didn't matter. Then the night would come, and I would sneak out to fight witches under the moonlight, cape fluttering dramatically.

But then I shook my head hard. "Nope. No way. I dropped out for a reason. I couldn't stay. Not after what I'd done. Plus, it's already too late for me."

The fantasy crumbled as quickly as it had formed. The truth was heavy, pressing down on me. School had been… too much. Every mistake I made stacked on top of the last, starting from the first, and before I knew it, I was buried. I ran, and once you run, it is hard to look back. Once a week off, turns to twice, then twice to multiple, then soon enough, I stopped going entirely.

Still, a tiny ache lingered in my chest. It would have been nice. Staying. Meeting new people. Having friends to joke around with, to share interests with. A life where I was not just the weird shut-in. A life where I actually got to try.

My throat tightened, and I swallowed hard, staring down at the floor.

And then, suddenly, it hit me.

I gasped so loud it made Kyubey's ears twitch. "I GOT IT!" I shouted, whipping around to face him, eyes wide. "I know what I want!"

Kyubey blinked calmly. "Then speak your wish."

"Wait, wait, wait, hang on!" I flailed my hands in front of me. "I need to ask a few more questions first. Like, when you say any wish, do you mean, like, time travel counts? Or is it only physical things? Can I redo stuff, or undo stuff, or, or is it more like material things, like money, or a mansion, or infinite pudding or something?"

Kyubey's eyes gleamed. "So long as it is within the laws of possibility, it can be granted."

I sat back, chewing my lip, thoughts racing. I have to word this right. I have to get this perfect. If I mess it up, I will regret it forever. I cannot just wish for money; that would be plain stupid. No. I have to go back. I have to… fix it. I will fix it!

My hands clenched into fists. I felt like the whole world was holding its breath, waiting for me.

"I wish..."

The words hung there, trembling in the air,

"I wish to—"
