I was in the middle of a battle, now at the end of my Touhou Six No-Hit Lunatic run. My hands were moving as fast as they could, dodging every single attack, heart pounding in my chest. I was finally this close to beating her.
tap tap.
At first, I tried to ignore it, focusing on the bullets whizzing past me, weaving the impossible. But the knocking grew louder, more insistent, and before I could even blink, tap tap was just loud enough to knock my focus off, and I was hit.
"DAMN IT! OK! WHAT THE HELL IS MAKING THAT NOISE?!" I shouted, yanking my headphones off, slamming my keyboard down. My eyes shot to the window with a glare

Can you let me in? it asked telepathically. I froze. The voice wasn't outside. It wasn't in the room. It was in my head. Clear... Calm... polite...
Slowly, my gaze shifted to the sill. Two glowing red eyes stared back at me. A white creature sat there, rain dripping off its fur, tail flicking like it was bored of waiting.
Because I find the rain quite unpleasant, it said, as if that explained anything.
Almost instantly, my anger evaporated, replaced by a swirl of pure confusion. What the hell is going on!?
My anger short-circuited, replaced by raw, buzzing confusion. My brain was doing flips trying to process what I was looking at.
"Uh… sure," I muttered. My hands moved on autopilot, unlatching the window. Cold rain splattered against my face as I opened it. The thing hopped inside without hesitation, shook itself off like it owned the place, and just… sat there.
I stood frozen, hands half-raised, staring. My mouth opened, closed, then
"Whaaaaaaaaaat?!" I exploded, finally catching up. The words began tearing themselves out of me like a flood. "How, what, how are you even-? What even are you?! Are you a cat? A fox? An alien!? Why are your eyes like that?! No, wait, how did you even get on my window?! Were you just sitting there this whole time?!"
I jabbed a finger at it, voice cracking. "And, you talked! In my head! I didn't just hear that, right?! You didn't say it, you just—just beamed it into my brain! You can do that?! Are you hacking into my brain?! What is even happening!!?"
The words tumbled out faster than I could think them, hands flailing wildly for emphasis.
The creature blinked once, tail curling neatly around its paws. When it spoke again, its voice was still that same calm echoing in my mind.
I believe we have made a bad first impression. I apologise for that. But you can call me Kyubey. And, I came here because I wish to ask you for your help!
it paused.
I want you to make a contract with me, so you can become a magical girl!
