Hendrik, Julia, and Tobias can understand the local language, but not very well. Sometimes they still ask Adinda if their local language is good or not. Werner was a person who spoke the local language quite well. Werner didn't need to take a dictionary with him wherever he went. Thanks to Ruben and Kirana and their patience in teaching Werner.
Lately, Tobias has changed, he's back to his old self. Werner is happy, they started to talk more often. Sometimes Tobias would help Werner and Ruben to do their assignments.
It's Sunday, and Werner is taking a walk around his house. She was waiting for Kirana. Usually, his mother would come and work at 8 am. Tobias saw Werner from his bedroom on the 2nd floor.
"What are you doing?" Tobias called out to Werner from the window on the 2nd floor.
Werner looked at Tobias. "Waiting for Kirana." Werner said.
"Maybe she won't come." Tobias said.
"What do you mean?"
"She doesn't want to be friends with you." Tobias laughed, he was just teasing him.
Werner looked upset. "You'd better shut up!" Werner picks up a small rock and threatens to throw it at Tobias. "I'll throw it at you!"
Tobias stopped laughing. "No, no, please. I'm just teasing you."
Werner rolled his eyes and threw the stone on the ground. Kirana and her mother, Adinda, arrived.
"Be a good girl." Adinda said. Kirana just smiled and nodded.
Adinda went into the house, working. While Kirana walked towards Werner.
"I've been waiting for you," Werner said to Kirana
"Why?"
"No, just wait. It's Sunday, so I don't go to school and I'm bored." Werner said. "Can we go for a walk?"
Kirana nodded. They left. Werner didn't bother to ask Tobias if he wanted to go with them or not, he would just bother him.
"Are you hungry?" asked Werner
"Not really."
"I'm a bit hungry, do you want to go out to eat?"
"Uh.. alright."
They walked towards the food stall. Werner tried to talk to the woman, but he couldn't really understand what she was saying.
"What did he say?" asked Werner
Kirana laughed at him. "He said. How much do you want? He speaks Sundanese."
"Ouch." Werner nodded. He let Kirana order it for him. "How many languages do I need to learn?" Werner muttered.
........
Werner was sitting on a rock. He sulked because Kirana was talking to her friends and neglecting him. They talked for a few minutes. Werner didn't understand why, but he hated seeing Kirana talking to his other friends. He just wanted Kirana to talk to him.
"Kirana, let's go." Werner said. "I'm tired, I want to go home."
Kirana looked at him. "Okay." She said to Dewi and Sari. She walked towards Werner. "You look angry." Kirana said
"Yes. I'm angry."
"Why"
Werner just rolled his eyes. He got up and grabbed Kirana's hand, he dragged her away. They walked back to his house. He looked very upset, he didn't like to wait, and he wanted Kirana to also prioritize him over his other friends.
"You don't want to walk around anymore?" asked Kirana
"No, I want to go home." Werner said he was still sulking.
"Are you okay?"
Werner didn't answer her, he just kept walking and dragging Kirana.
They arrived at Werner's house. Werner looked at Kirana with an angry look.
"You're mad at me? Why?"
"You ignore me when you talk to your friends." Werner said, crossing his arms.
Kirana's eyes widened, but she didn't notice it. "I'm sorry, Werner."
Werner just rolled his eyes and left. She walked into her bedroom and closed the door. Kirana followed him and knocked on the door, but he didn't open it. Kirana pouted and sat down on the floor, waiting for her to open the door. Just then, Mrs. Julia came. Julia looks like Kirana, sympathetic.
"What's going on?" asked Julia.
Kirana fidgeted with her fingers. "Uh, Werner is mad at me..." said Kirana. She looked afraid of Julia. She was afraid that Julia would be angry with her for making Werner mad.
"Why? Tell me. I'm not mad at you, Kirana." Julia said.
"W... We walked around and played. I met my friends and we talked, I didn't realize it if Werner felt neglected, and now he's mad at me now." Kirana said, her eyes filled with tears.
Julia just smiled warmly. "It's okay, Werner will recover soon. I'll talk to him." Julia said. Julia held Kirana in her arms and helped her up. "Just go and sit on the sofa, don't sit on the floor, it's dirty. I'll talk to Werner." Julia opened the door and entered Werner's bedroom.
Kirana just walked over and sat on the nearby sofa. She kept looking at Werner's bedroom. She fidgeted with her fingers.
Julia sat by Werner's bedside. Is he lying on his side? He frowned. "Are you angry with Kirana?" asked Julia, but Werner remained silent.
"Kirana has other friends as well. He can't ignore all his friends for you." said Julia. "He should... his relationship with his other friends."
"But I don't like to be ignored like that!" said Werner
"I understand. But don't sulk for too long. What if Kirana doesn't want to play with you anymore?" said Julia.
"I still have Ruben and my other friends. I don't really need it!" Werner said. He... and crossed his arms.
"Okay, then. I'll tell Kirana if you don't want to play with her anymore. He doesn't have to come here." Julia said she was flirting with him, but she knew if Werner wasn't serious about it. Julia got up and walked out of her bedroom.
Werner looked surprised when he heard that. "Mom, wait!" Werner got up quickly and ran towards her.
Kirana looked confused when she saw them. He was still fidgeting with his fingers. And... Legs
"Don't tell her that!" said Werner. "Ugh, I'll apologize to him." Werner said. Julia smiled warmly and stroked his hair.
"That's my son. Don't fight with Kirana again." Julia said.
Werner looked at Kirana, still sulking. He walked over to offer it. Kirana got up from the couch.
"Forgive me." Werner said, his face is still..
Kirana smiled. "I'm the one who has to apologize. Forgive me."
Werner couldn't help but smile warmly at him. "I forgive you. I'm sorry for being childish."
The next day, Werner was at school. He sat next to Ruben, who wrote something in his book. This is a book with black leather.
"What did you write?" asked Werner
"I write a diary."
"Diary? Interesting."
"I've been writing diaries since I was a child. Especially when my parents and I moved to Bandung."
"I want to do it too!"
Ruben smiled. "Yes! It will be very cool when we are older. We found our old diary and read it. My uncle wrote a diary when he was younger, and he found the old diary when he was older. He wrote about his days when he lived in the valley."
After that day, Werner began to write a diary. He brought a book with dark brown leather. Sometimes, he would write about Kirana as well.
Werner sat on a bench, and he wrote something in his book.
"What are you doing?" asked Kirana
Werner looked to Kirana. "I write a diary."
"What is a diary?" asked Kirana
"A diary is a personal book, people write about their daily life." Werner said
"It's really cool, what did you write?" asked Kirana. He looked curious and tried to peek at his book.
Werner closed the book, and he looked at Kirana, amused. "No, I won't tell you. It's a secret." Werner said.
Kirana pouts. "Oh, so you're hiding something from me?"
"Hm, maybe?"
"Ugh, it's okay." Kirana crossed her arms. He sat beside her.
Werner just continued to write a diary, he didn't pay much attention to Kirana. Sometimes Kirana will try to peek. But Werner would cover the book with his hands.
Werner looked amused. "You really want to know?" he asked her
Kirana just nodded, she was really curious.
"Alright. I'll show it to you." He handed the book to Kirana. "But don't read the other page." Said Werner.
Kirana picked up the books and read the page.

Bandung, 1932.
It's Wednesday afternoon. I just sat there and looked at Kirana who take care of the flowers in my garden. She and her mother are good at taking care of flowers, that's why my mother trusts them to take care of the garden as well. Kirana is so beautiful in her brown dress, it makes me wonder what she will look like when she grows up.
I miss Milou and my friends in the Netherlands. Emma sent me a letter, she talked about Milou, and how Milou missed me and Tobias. Milou often goes to our house and waits for us to come back. That makes Emma have to go and pick him up.
Emma said that Jakob, William, Dirk, and Joshua rarely came to her house since Tobias and I moved to Bandung. Usually, we would come after school to eat a homemade cake by Emma. Her homemade cake and cookies is my favorite.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kirana smiled as she read it. "Who is Emma?" asked Kirana.
"Emma is an old woman, she is my grandmother's sibling. He lives in Batavia." Werner said.
Kirana looked interested. "Can you tell us about your life in the Netherlands and your friends?"
"Well, I guess I can tell you about that. So, I live in Den Haag. Emma lives near my house, she's about 74 years old now. But my grandmother had died many years ago, Emma was the only one still alive. I have so many friends. But my closest friends are Jakob, William, Dirk, and Joshua. Tobias and Jakob were very close. We love playing together and eating cookies at Emma's house."
Kirana looked at the book. "Why did you write abu with me?"
Werner's cheeks are redder. "Y.. You are my best friend! Of course i write about you."
"You write something about me?" asked Kirana.
"Um... y.. Yes."
"Can I see it?" ask Kirana
"No, Kirana." Werner got up and walk away quickly.
Kirana looked confused. "Where do you want to go?" Kirana got up and followed him. "Wait!" She looks confused, why he suddenly left.
Werner tried to hide the book on his pillow. He wrote about Kirana several times, and he doesn't want her to find out what he writes about her in his book.
