The school day dragged on, but the weight in the air never faded.
Students whispered behind hands, laughter cracked sharp, footsteps rushed faster through hallways. Ever since Dog Pound's collapse, J High hadn't been the same.
And at the center of that shift sat Seong Min.
He didn't raise his voice. He didn't strut or boast. He just sat in the back of class, calm, almost drowsy, tapping his pen against his desk.
But every so often, those violet eyes swept across the room, steady and deliberate.
And every time, Daniel felt like he couldn't breathe.
Flashback – Crystal's Test
The night before, Crystal Choi had stood before her mirror again.
Her reflection was flawless, as always. But beneath the glass, her pride gnawed.
Seong Min's words still lingered. "I'll live to my full desire."
Men always said things like that. Always promised to be different. And in the end, every one of them bowed the same way—lust first, pride second.
She needed to know.
So she sent Yui Kim.
Pretty, practiced, hungry Yui. The kind of girl who could make most men stumble with just a smile.
"If he falls for you," Crystal had said coolly, slipping her necklace into its box, "then he's just like the rest. Break his mask. Show me what's underneath."
But even as she gave the order, Crystal's hands betrayed her again. Trembling, faintly, as if part of her already knew what the answer would be.
Yui Kim
The next morning, Yui made her move.
"Seong Min~"
Her voice dripped into the quiet classroom like honey. She leaned casually against his desk, hair framing her face just so, perfume light but unmistakable.
Nearby students perked up instantly.
"Wait, Yui's talking to him?""She never wastes time unless she wants something…""Figures. She's going for the new guy."
Yui tilted her head, smile bright. "You're always so quiet. Kinda mysterious. Girls like that, you know."
She leaned closer, her arm brushing his as she peeked at his notebook. "What're you writing? Class notes? Or something more… secret?"
Whispers rippled. Daniel stiffened in his seat, heat prickling the back of his neck.
But Seong Min just closed his notebook calmly and met her eyes.
No smile. No blush. Just steady, violet calm.
Yui's breath caught, just faintly. She expected amusement, annoyance—something. But the weight in his gaze was colder than she anticipated.
Unshaken.
Unmoved.
Her smile faltered for half a second before she brightened it again, trying harder.
"Don't be like that~ I'm just curious. You're not scared of me, are you?"
Still nothing.
Seong Min tilted his head slightly, smirk faint, like a hawk humoring a sparrow.
And for the first time, Yui felt heat rise in her own cheeks.
She wasn't testing him anymore.
She was caught.
Crystal's Reaction
From her seat, Crystal watched carefully, her pen poised in her fingers.
When Yui leaned forward, Crystal's pride burned sharp. But when Seong Min refused to bend, when his calm cut through Yui's act like glass against silk—
Her chest tightened.
Because he wasn't like the rest.
He hadn't looked at Yui the way men always looked. He hadn't even seemed tempted.
Crystal should have been satisfied. This was proof. Her test had succeeded.
But instead, that hateful spark gnawed deeper.
Curiosity.
Desire.
Obsession.
She wanted to see more.
Zoe Park
By lunch, the rumors had already spread.
Yui trying and failing. Seong Min's unshakable calm. Whispers spread like fire.
And then Zoe Park made her move.
She dropped her tray onto Seong Min's table without hesitation, sliding into the seat across from him.
"Yo. You're Seong Min, right?"
Her grin was wide, her voice loud enough for half the cafeteria to hear. Students turned immediately, whispering, watching.
"People are saying someone crushed Dog Pound. Nobody knows who." Her grin sharpened. "But my money's on you."
Gasps spread. Students leaned closer.
"You've got that look," Zoe said, leaning forward with her chin in her hand. "Scary, but hot. That's king energy. And kings should have girlfriends."
Daniel's stomach dropped.
Zoe. His Zoe. The girl who used to cheer for him, who used to laugh at his clumsy strength. Now her eyes were locked on Seong Min like he was the only one in the room.
Daniel's fists clenched under the table.
Across the cafeteria, Vin Jin's face turned red. "Z-Zoe, what the hell!? Don't joke like that!"
But Zoe ignored him completely, her grin sharpening.
Crystal Again
From across the cafeteria, Crystal's fork scraped faintly against porcelain.
First Yui. Now Zoe.
Flies swarming toward the same flame.
Her face remained flawless, her smile poised, but inside her chest burned.
And Seong Min…
He didn't push them away. He let them circle.
Her nails dug crescents into her palm beneath the tablecloth.
Seong Min
He saw it all.
Yui's faltering smile.Zoe's bold laughter.Crystal's tightening grip.
And he let it happen.
Not because he wanted them.
But because Crystal was watching.
And Crystal hated it.
His smirk sharpened.
Perfect.
Mary Kim
Then the cafeteria doors opened.
And silence rolled through the room before anyone even saw her.
Mary Kim.
Her presence pressed down heavier than noise. Strong, sharp, unshakable.
She scanned the room once. Her gaze landed on Seong Min.
And held.
Zoe's grin faded. Yui's posture stiffened. Even Crystal's fork paused mid-air.
Because the air between them wasn't flirty.
It was sharp.
Predator recognizing predator.
And for the first time that day, Seong Min's smirk faded into something colder.
Interest.
