Chapter 7 - Building Manegement

"Building Management," Maxwell said suddenly.

As he uttered the name of this ability, a system notification appeared before him:

[Are you sure you want to use the Building Management ability on this building?]

"Yes," Maxwell said after reading this notification.

The moment he uttered these words, his vision suddenly darkened. For a few seconds, his head spun, and he could sense an immense brightness forming behind his darkened eyes.

After only half a minute of strange blindness, the veil over his eyes lifted once more.

Maxwell was looking at a renovated, more luxurious room.

A king-size bed standing at the end of the room, a refrigerator in the kitchen filled with all kinds of food, running taps, and more had suddenly appeared around him.

"Very good..." Maxwell said suddenly and then left the room. Even though the entire building was empty, there was now light in the corridors. Maxwell could now enter the rooms simply by turning the door handles.

When he went outside to check what had happened to the building, Maxwell could see that the entire ten-metre radius of the previously blood-covered area had been cleaned, the vines covering the building had disappeared, and even the building's paint had been renewed.

Everything had been transformed into incredible luxury.

After returning to the building, Maxwell went straight to the top floor.

The rooms on the floor above the terrace were many times more luxurious than the room he had woken up in. It wouldn't be too bad to live here. Since he could use the lift in the building to get to the top floor, there was no real problem.

[Building renovation complete. The building has 24 hours of energy. Please remember to use energy stones for more energy.]

When Maxwell dismissed this system notification, he remembered that he had earned a total of thirty-four energy stones with the two deliveries he had made today.

Thirty-four energy stones equalled a total of 1,632 hours, as each stone provided the building with exactly 48 hours of energy.

This meant there was a full 68 days' worth of energy available.

Maxwell managed to smile for the first time in a very long time. Who would have thought that the thing he hated most could make him so happy?

"I want to submit ten energy stones," Maxwell said calmly.

The moment he said this, another system notification opened in front of him, and this time, the system notification presented a category to him. This category was a system window, and at the top of this window was written [Buildings].

Below this text was a space labelled [Unnamed Building], with a number next to it.

After selecting the building, Maxwell accepted the system notification sent to him, and with that, the words "21 days" appeared next to the building.

The twenty days from the stones he had submitted and the one day gifted to him for selecting the building had earned him a total of twenty-one days' worth of energy.

Maxwell had opened the system window at that moment, looked at his profile, and watched the [Delivery Driver] class listed in the class section for a few seconds.

"Well... If this is what I need to survive, if this is what I need to see the end of this unfinished story... I can keep carrying on with this stupid job," Maxwell muttered to himself.

At that moment, he made a vow to himself.

This vow stated that he should not think about who he was delivering to, that even if it was the world's greatest murderer, he would still make the delivery.

In short, Maxwell, already fed up with life, had accepted choosing himself over humanity and embracing the term [Story's Extra], just as it was written in the 'title' given to him.

Still... In a building with electricity, he had decided to relax a little with the game consoles he could get from the stock and do something he hadn't done in a very long time.

Even though a request had already been sent for another delivery service, he wanted to forget about everything for today and tomorrow and had truly chosen to rest.

He no longer needed to work from five in the morning until ten at night. He didn't need to earn money. He could have as much food as he wanted, the highest quality meat and poultry, as much alcohol or soda as he desired, and even weapons for free, which he could use directly.

He just needed some energy stones.

There was no obstacle preventing him from owning everything.

He would truly be an SSS-Class Delivery Driver.

Amidst all these thoughts, Maxwell managed to get the best sleep of his life that night. He slept soundly for a full 17 hours.

When he woke up again, the night of that day had already begun to approach, and he had filled his stomach with an A5 Wagyu steak, a little rice bowl, and a small salad plate, which he had bought with his market ability, watched a film, and then, when night came, he was filled with an involuntary desire to work.

I guess sleeping for a long time, eating a good meal, and being able to enjoy himself without worrying about anything really lifted his spirits.

The circles under his eyes were still dark, and frankly, it couldn't be said that he was enjoying life very much.

After all, he was in a world whose script had long been written and worked on for a long time, and Sheffield was the last place he wanted to stay in accordance with that script.

Still, Maxwell was lucky. While tinkering with his Class abilities a little more and trying to learn them better, he had learned that the maximum distance he could deliver to could extend beyond Sheffield.

To do this, there was one thing he had to do.

[Delivery Limit (2/30)]

Maxwell had to make exactly thirty deliveries. He knew that once he reached this limit, the delivery area would expand, because in this world, it was possible to level up your abilities based on how well and how quickly you reached their limits.

Just as someone who had awakened as a 'Sword Master' would see their skill rise from D-Class to C-Class after swinging their sword five hundred thousand times.

In other words, it was possible to raise a skill from the [Common] level to the [Rare] level.
