Chapter 6 - The Lonely Ones And Their Master

This beautiful woman was one of the women who appeared in the middle of the third book in the series, "The Cold Voice of Death: Faith," and helped the main character while falling in love with him. Unfortunately, the useless main character had practically abandoned this woman who was trying to help him, causing her and the entire group to die.

Maxwell didn't even know this woman was in Sheffield; the strange thing was that his 'Sense' ability hadn't worked.

Perhaps it was an ability that worked depending on the likely course of the story and whether the characters were important enough.

After all, it was about a year later since the apocalypse began, which meant the main character woke up half a year ago. And that meant...The story had only progressed to the middle of the first book.

After all, Maxwell knew that many abilities worked in mysterious ways; ultimately, the abilities of everyone who had become 'Awakened' worked differently.

"Hello," said Maxwell, and without thinking, he sat down right across from the woman sitting at the other end of the table and waited.

This woman's name was [Elise Brown], and she was the leader of the [The Lonely Ones] group. She was a rather ruthless woman. She possessed an ability that would allow her to survive even in this apocalypse. Elise had awakened with the ability to grow plants and could successfully use plant roots, trees, and many other things as a defence system.

That was why this young woman and her group had managed to survive for so long.

"You're an awakened one like me, aren't you?" Elise inquired.

"Yes. My job is to deliver to those who request it," Maxwell replied, and as soon as he said this, boxes of instant noodles and water appeared on the table.

Elise, like the other group members in the room, was stunned by this sight.

They had assumed that ready-made food would run out in the first month of the apocalypse, so this was naturally a huge shock to them.

Just then, Maxwell heard a sound behind him:

"Chak-Chk!"

It was the sound of a gun pointed at his head, ready to fire. It was a loud, metallic, aggressive sound.

"I don't think I need to tell you to hand over everything you have," Elise said suddenly.

Maxwell looked at Elise with his tired, dead eyes and then said, "If a gun is drawn, you know to shoot," then stood up, turned around and said, "Go ahead, shoot."

With those words, the person pointing the gun at Maxwell turned to Elise and saw her smiling.

With that, the gun was lowered, and Maxwell's voice was heard again:

"Elise Brown, leader of The Lonely Ones, twenty-seven years old, one of those people regarded as goddesses. I'm glad to see you face to face, but allow me to give you a warning."

When Elise heard these words, she frowned just like those under her command.

While even some of those under her command did not know her name, the fact that a delivery driver from outside knew who she was naturally worried and intrigued the woman.

"You...ho--" Elise was about to speak, but at that very moment, Maxwell stopped her, and she heard him say:

"Watch out for the young man with the blond hair. Helping him won't do you any good. I've already been paid. The moment I set foot in this place and delivered your order, the thirty energy stones you owe me were added to my inventory. I just wanted to warn you."

Maxwell said these words because, frankly speaking, he didn't want the interesting supporting character he saw in front of him to die in the future.

Elise was one of the minor characters Maxwell liked...Well, most of the characters he liked died after meeting with the main character, so it was understandable why he hated him so much.

It was absolutely true that The Lonely Ones would move from here to Birmingham, which was much more dangerous in the future.

The fact that the main character would be coming from London to Birmingham within a year had made Maxwell think. It was possible that he would meet the main character in the future; after all, England was a small country when we didn't count the United Kingdom directly.

Of course, this also meant that the main character would make stupid moves, first in England and then in other countries.

The ruins he left behind...

"You... where do you know me from?" Elise had questioned, but Maxwell didn't answer, instead adjusting his leather jacket and replying, "It was a pleasure doing business with you. Don't forget to place another order. I have many things, from weapons to food, drinks to clothes. Have a good day."

Then, as if nothing had happened, he left the room first, then the mansion-sized house, and pulled his scooter out of his inventory.

Elise and the group followed him as they left the house, but they could only manage to watch him with their eyes.

A group of zombies was approaching the house. It was a small group, but they were still zombies. A single bite would turn you. Even though the awakened were more resistant to this and needed at least a few bites, it didn't change the fact that those bites were dangerous.

Maxwell got on his scooter and began driving towards the group of zombies as if nothing was happening.

"ARM YOURSELVES!" Elise shouted. She was a kind-hearted woman who would have tried to help Maxwell, but just three seconds later, she could do nothing but try to understand what was happening as she saw the scene unfold.

Maxwell had simply passed through the zombies. Despite the noise from the scooter, the zombies had looked at him and continued towards the mansion.

To the average observer, this was incomprehensible.

Maxwell, however, had returned to the building where he had first woken up after spending another hour making a delivery that earned him four energy stones.

Frankly speaking, he didn't want to claim a building in Sheffield or anywhere else in England.

The buildings were too small and unattractive. In Maxwell's mind, it would make much more sense to claim a huge hotel, and in England, at least as far as he knew, there was no such thing.

Nevertheless, Maxwell was forced to choose a building because of the human danger. Ultimately, the real threat to him was not the zombies, but humanity itself.

That's why he couldn't help but think it made sense to claim the first building he woke up in.
