Azure Dragon Continent, Imperial City of the Five Element Dynasty
Within the bustling city, the streets were filled with people, and the noise they made could be heard everywhere. On both sides of the street were towering buildings and plenty of high-class shops with exquisite items inside. Folk could even be seen looking inside with desire in their eyes. Occasionally, men and women dressed in luxurious clothes would emerge from the entrances, laughing and chatting among themselves.
Among these shops and elegant pavilions, the number one school of the imperial city—the Diving Dragon School—was even more crowded, as the first annual recruitment of the school had just begun. Young parents, worried about their children's futures, were eager to get admission to the prestigious institute. As such, the business of the Diving Dragon School was booming.
Within the imperial city, buildings were built in a neat and orderly fashion, and alleyways were everywhere. If you were to follow the main road which directly led to the imperial castle at the center, after walking for hundreds of meters you would see a deep alley beside the Diving Dragon School. There, you would find a simple and honest courtyard with a strange sign hanging on top of the main entrance, emitting neon light that read:
Phoenix and Dragon Institute!
"Quite a clichéd name..." a young man muttered while looking at the sign hanging above. He had a slim figure and toned skin as a result of his everyday workout. His long black hair was tied together in a ponytail, and he gave off the feeling of someone who rarely interacted with anyone.
The modern sign, which should have been quite common in the metropolitan cities of Earth, looked strange in this ancient-looking city.
After another glance, he focused on the task at hand. Holding the spiritual bamboo broom tightly, he seriously cleaned the entrance of the institute.
After the meticulous brooming, the walkway—which had looked quite dirty after the hailstorm yesterday—now looked neat and clean.
However, the young man, Wang Chen, didn't stop. He put the broom in its designated location and started to clean the hallway.
Wang Chen was a twenty-five-year-old male, an ordinary orphan from Earth. However, he had the achievement of running one of the biggest daycare centers in his city, hosting the children of the wealthiest families. To his credit, the daughter of the current prime minister of the Dragon Nation had stayed in his daycare facility for almost a year. He suddenly woke up one day and found himself in another world, with a blue window mysteriously appearing in his brain. This small Phoenix and Dragon Institute daycare was created by Wang Chen on the first day he arrived, with the help of the system.
As someone who had successfully run the daycare scene back on Earth, he could see there was no such organization that provided such facilities in this world.
Even though a month had passed since he created the daycare center, not a single parent had shown up. Wang Chen had slowly started to realize that maybe there was no market for such a thing in this city, and could only blame his luck for it.
The sun had completely broken the dawn, and Wang Chen finished cleaning the daycare center.
You might ask: if there were no children showing up at his daycare center, what was the need to diligently clean the place? It wasn't like it was dirty anyway—after all, Wang Chen was the only one who lived in this building.
However, Wang Chen didn't think this way.
He was an orphan who had spent the most precious time of his life under the care of a kind lady's daycare. If not for her, who knew—he might have died from hunger in some random street.
The old lady had deeply influenced him. Just like his, the old lady's daycare center was also empty most of the time, but the lady religiously cleaned it. When asked, she would say with a smile: "If someday someone were to visit, I don't want the first impression to be bad."
Although at first Wang Chen didn't understand the old lady's reasoning, now he was starting to understand it.
However, this was only one of the reasons. The second reason being—
Just then, a blue window popped up in front of his eyes:
Congratulations, host, for completing the daily task: Divinity in Small Things
1 - Cleaning the entrance with a broom made from spiritual bamboo wood: Complete
2 - Mopping the floor with special concoction crafted from blood of iron-rank beast: Complete
3 - Lighting the incense made from the extract of seven-turn flower: Complete
All tasks are successfully completed. The host is on his way to becoming the greatest daycare manager of all time. Keep working hard!
Wang Chen's expression didn't change at this window—he was waiting for something else.
The next moment, however, the window was gone, replaced by a smaller one:
Completion reward has arrived:
One year of arduous cultivation in a low-level sect
Wang Chen wasn't surprised. As his experience in the past month had shown, every time the reward was random.
Just as he was thinking, his body was enveloped by a gentle white light, making the muscles in his body relax. If he were to put the feeling into words, it would be something similar to free-falling from the sky at fast speed.
Then, in the next moment, the white aura vanished as if it had never existed in the first place.
Wang Chen ignored the feeling and muttered something under his breath:
"Status."
Immediately following his words, the windows vanished and new windows popped up in his vision:
[Name: Wang Chen]
[Lifespan: 25/35]
[Race: Mortal]
[Cultivation: Rank 4 Qi Refining Realm]
[Cultivation Technique: None]
[Talent: Caring Heart]
[Equipment: None]
[Cultivation Potential: Miserable (Raise one Qi Refining disciple to raise the potential)]
Looking at his status window and then at the lifespan column, the twenty-five-year-old Wang Chen almost cried out in a fit of rage.
Damn it all! He couldn't understand why his total lifespan was only thirty-five years.
After cursing for some time, he shook his head and accepted it. There was no other way.
