Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Troll Attack

After entering the northern reaches of Lordaeron, the population was sparse. Only the occasional lumberjack could be seen on the smooth road. Each lumberjack greeted Leylin enthusiastically, "Hey, boy! This isn't human territory ahead. Be careful."

"Yes, I'll be careful." A kind reminder always earned a warm smile. And that's what Leylin did.

The northern reaches were a beautiful forested area of the Kingdom of Lordaeron, densely forested. It was hard to imagine this place becoming a plague-ridden land.

While enjoying the fresh air of the forest, Leylin quietly signed in his current location.

There were many wild bears in the woods, so he had better go faster. At the northernmost tip of the north, the road forked. One led due north, the other northeast.

Leylin's destination was Quel'Thalas, so he simply ignored the road to Stratholme.

He rode non-stop, without stopping. Finally, Leylin reached the farthest reaches of the North.

There, Leylin saw a tall building, resembling a gate in a city wall, but perhaps not quite. He wasn't sure what kind of structure it was; perhaps elven, perhaps troll.

Following a path hidden in the high mountain valleys of Thalassian Pass, Leylin entered this territory. This would later become the Ghostlands, where trolls and high elves coexisted.

Upon entering this area, Leylin is in the areas of the trolls. This was the southern part of the Ghostlands. To the east lay Zul'Aman, the troll city.

Leylin quickly moved ahead. The trolls and orcs were alike; if captured, he could become their dessert. The warhorse galloped at a rapid pace, and this battle-hardened steed demonstrated its strength.

However, Leylin overlooked one problem. How could the clatter of hooves at such a rapid pace escape the trolls' ears?

The Shadowpine Catlord immediately detected the clatter of the warhorse from within the troll hut built of grass and wood.

Whether elves could tame horses or not, the shadowpine trolls quickly realized humans had entered their territory.

Compared to the emaciated elves, human flesh was far more tender and flavorful. The buttocks and thighs were especially tender and juicy.

Three Shadowpine Catlord mounted their own Ghostclaw Lynxes, spears strapped to their backs, and gave chase. These lynxes, trained for years, were incredibly fast, roaring and cheering their companions on.

A dangerous aura touched Leylin's back like a cold hand.

"Shit! We've been discovered!" Leylin cursed inwardly, galloping forward.

The warhorse beneath him also heard the mountain cat's cry, grunted, and calmly galloped forward. A warhorse with experience in war remained unfazed by such danger.

It exerted all its might, galloping at top speed, for the young master on its saddle. It had failed to escape in Black Morass with its old master, but this time, it would not fail again.

The shadow dwellers were chattering about something, hadn't these guys learned the common language of the continent?

Suddenly, a spear flashed past Leylin's ear. The whistling sound caused tinnitus in his ears.

It was as if his heart was hammered, and Leylin felt the fragility of life for the first time.

The warhorse was still galloping, even though it had been traveling for two days.

The dull panting told Leylin that the warhorse was almost exhausted.

"My old friend, you can slow down, we will be there soon."

Looking up, at the end of the forest, there was a dome-shaped streamlined building complex. It was the architectural style of the high elves, there was no mistake.

Tranquillien, go there and it will all be good.

"nigezhazha, qisioulie" the troll howled behind him.

Leylin began to slow down so the warhorse could rest, Leylin began to use the low-level fireball spell he had just learned last night.

He was thinking this kind of level should be enough to kill them.

Drawing upon the scattered energy within the environment, a fireball emerged from both Leylin's palm. This one burned with scorching flames, far smaller than the one from yesterday.

Aiming for the two trolls leading the charge, Leylin swung both hands with all his might.

"Go to hell!" Leylin's anger tinged with a hint of smoke. His tone sounded a bit foolish, but it was just right for these greedy and ferocious trolls.

"Bang!" "Hit!"

The two leading troll's body and its mount was torn apart-flesh and bone erupting outward in a brutal shower of debris and flames, while the last troll continued to chase.

"Ah!"

The last trolls sped up, determined to tear the human apart. It was insane! These heartless trolls.

This wasn't like the gentle chieftain he'd encountered in the game in his previous world!

Have we arrived, Tranquillien?

"Old buddy, right up ahead!" Leylin saw several tall rangers carrying bows and arrows.

The old buddy, having rested for a bit continued galloping forward heading towards Tranquillien. Before Leylin, could react, a nimble figure filled his sight.

A beautiful elf in ranger attire pulled up a longbow, and with two simple shots, the last shadowpine catlord and its lynx lay at the foot of Tranquillien's slope.

Leylin patted his chest. Slowly relaxed and patted the warhorse to stop and dismounted.

He walked over, hugged the old friend's neck, and said, "We have arrived, my old friend. Let's get you some rest since you were the best."

After a few neighs, Leylin gave the warhorse some water then looked around for checking for a stable but found none. Leylin faced up and said, "Thank you for saving me, elf ranger."

"You're welcome, but human, what are you doing out here in the kingdom of the elves?" The ranger walked up to the troll who were shot to death by arrows and picked up the spears in their hands.

Facing the female ranger's back, Leylin answered truthfully, "I'm Leylin. I want to come here to learn magic. Alleria told me about it the day before yesterday, so I packed up and came to report."

The elven ranger turned, stared Leylin in the eye, and said coldly, "I know who you are. The interesting human that Vereesa mentioned."

Looking at the beautiful ranger before him, Leylin could guess her identity even with his butt.

"Yes, that's right. Then can I report to Silvermoon City?"

"Of course."

"Before that, can I leave my old friend here, on your high elf territory?" Leylin looked at his old friend.

The ranger walked into the elven tower and said, "Yes, but please don't leave it just anywhere since it might get eaten by the trolls. The trees south of Tranquillien have been almost completely taken down by the trolls. Just leave it in the inn here, and take it back later on. The inn is in that direction."

Leylin breathed a sigh of relief, slowly he pulled his old friend into the direction he was given to.
