Chapter 40 - Episode 40: Mihir's resolve

Inside the Jewelry Shop

Mihir and Maira stepped into the opulent jewelry shop, surrounded by sparkling diamonds and gleaming gold. The shopkeeper greeted them with a warm smile, sensing a potential big sale.

Mihir's eyes scanned the display cases, his gaze lingering on the most expensive pieces. "I want to see your finest necklaces," he told the shopkeeper. "Something that reflects my status and image."

The shopkeeper nodded obsequiously, showing them the most exquisite pieces. Mihir's eyes landed on a stunning diamond necklace, and his face lit up with approval.

"Show me that one," he said, his voice dripping with confidence.

The shopkeeper handed him the necklace, and Mihir turned to Maira. "This should suit you," he said, his eyes gleaming with calculation.

Maira's eyes widened as she saw the price tag. "Sir, this is too expensive," she protested.

But Mihir waved his hand dismissively. "Money's not an issue. Get it," he told the shopkeeper.

The shopkeeper handed it to him, and Mihir turned to Maira. "Let me put it on you," he said, his voice low and smooth.

As Mihir fastened the necklace around Maira's neck, their faces drew close. Maira's heart skipped a beat as she felt Mihir's warm breath on her skin. Mihir's fingers brushed against her neck, sending shivers down her spine.

In the brief moment of closeness, Mihir's fingers deftly slipped the locket into Maira's pocket. It was a swift and subtle move, one that Maira didn't notice.

Maira stepped back, admiring the necklace in the mirror. "It's beautiful," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Mihir's eyes gleamed with satisfaction. He had gotten what he wanted, and Maira was none the wiser. For now.

Maira's eyes sparkled as she gazed at her reflection in the mirror, the diamond necklace gleaming around her neck. "It's beautiful, but I couldn't possibly accept such a huge gift from you," she said, her voice laced with hesitation.

Mihir's smile was charming. "Consider it a gift from your boss, then," he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

Maira's brow furrowed slightly as she wondered why Mihir was suddenly gifting her such an expensive piece of jewelry. She thanked him, still feeling a bit perplexed.

Mihir's response was smooth. "Just make the payment using my card," he told the shopkeeper, handing over his credit card without giving Maira a chance to protest further.

The shopkeeper nodded and processed the payment, while Maira's mind whirled with questions. What was Mihir's true motive behind this lavish gift?

In the Car

As they drove away from the jewelry shop, Maira felt a subtle sense of discomfort. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but something felt off, like a part of her was missing.

Maira's brow furrowed slightly as she tried to shake off the feeling. She glanced out the window, watching the scenery pass by, but the sensation lingered, nagging at the back of her mind.

Mihir, meanwhile, was focused on the road ahead, a small smile playing on his lips. He knew exactly what was going on, but he wasn't about to enlighten Maira just yet.

The Magical Library

Later that night, Mihir sat in the mystical library of the Kashyap mansion, surrounded by ancient tomes and dusty scrolls. He was searching for any information about the locket Maira had been wearing, but so far, he had come up empty-handed.

Sahir walked in, noticing the scattered books. "Mihir, what's going on?" he asked, his tone friendly.

Mihir's expression turned cold, his eyes narrowing. "Just leave me alone to my business, prof. Go get some rest. You've got your engagement with Ruby tomorrow," he said gruffly, his tone dismissive.

Sahir's eyes lingered on Mihir for a moment, but he didn't push the issue. He knew Mihir's moods and didn't want to provoke him further. "Alright, I'll leave you to it," Sahir said, turning to leave.

As Sahir walked out, Mihir's gaze remained fixed on the books, his mind consumed by the mystery of the locket. The tension between him and Sahir was one-sided, with Mihir harboring a deep-seated issue with his twin brother.

Mihir's eyes scanned the pages, but he couldn't find any mention of the locket or its significance. Frustration etched on his face, he muttered to himself, "There's no information about this locket anywhere. How am I supposed to uncover Maira's secrets?"

His mind racing, Mihir's thoughts turned to the rumors about Maira being a Daayan. He decided that the only way to be sure was to put her to the test. "Tomorrow, I'll make her undergo the Daayan test," he thought to himself, a plan forming in his mind.

With a determined look, Mihir closed the book and stood up, the dim lighting of the library casting an eerie glow on his face. He was more convinced than ever that Maira was hiding something, and he was determined to uncover the truth, no matter what it took.
