Three people were standing together on the grassy area beside the small stream, appearing there at some unknown point.
Huo Yuhao's eyes focused as he peered through the tangled branches.
Among the three, Chai San, who had been stripped of his life force by the Golden Light, was clearly present. Besides him were two others, also servants from the wood shed, simply named Chai Si and Chai Wu.
"That little bastard is really going to come here?" Chai San looked somewhat weak, a stark contrast to his robust appearance from several days ago.
Indeed, he was weak. After being hit by the Golden Light, he had spent three days recovering in the infirmary. The biggest problem was that although Manager Wang had reimbursed his medical fees…
Because Dai Huabin had given up on finding trouble with Huo Yuhao, the Manager assumed Huo Yuhao had successfully escaped. They received no reward, which meant Manager Wang had wasted money on Chai San's treatment.
Chai San clearly knew the Manager was unhappy. For the last two days, he had been keeping a low profile, working especially hard.
This morning, to their surprise, Huo Yuhao, who they thought had already run away, reappeared.
Without hesitation, they immediately informed Manager Wang, who then directed his anger at Huo Yuhao and ordered Chai San, Chai Si, and Chai Wu to take action.
Of course, they weren't fools. They had seen Elder Chen with Huo Yuhao, so they waited until Elder Chen returned and Huo Yuhao was alone before making their move.
The reason they were here was because many of the servants knew the exact burial location of Huo Yun'er from years ago.
Manager Wang had merely guessed that Huo Yuhao might come here to pay respects to his mother.
"Who knows? In my opinion, that little bastard ran off a long time ago. Why would he come here?" Chai Si, dressed in coarse linen, said casually.
Chai Wu, the most robust-looking of the three, said in a low voice, "What if we don't catch that bastard? What will we tell Manager Wang?"
Chai San remained silent, his face grim, but Chai Si was unconcerned. "Just tell him the truth. Say that little bastard didn't come to pay respects to Huo Yun'er."
Chai Wu thought for a moment, agreeing with Chai Si.
"Instead of standing here chatting, we should go into the forest and find him," Chai San said, his face grim as he looked at the other two. "If we don't do a good job, what do you think Manager Wang will think? He'll take his anger out on us, and then things will get ugly."
Hearing Chai San's words, both Chai Si and Chai Wu looked grim.
But soon, Chai Si spoke sarcastically, "I'm afraid it's not us two that Manager Wang will be taking issue with."
Chai San's expression stiffened. He was about to ask Chai Si what he meant.
"Whoosh."
Just as the question reached his throat, Chai San caught a glimpse of silver out of the corner of his eye. The next moment, a smear of crimson exploded in front of him, droplets of warm liquid splattering on his face.
Chai Si, who had been standing beside Chai Wu, still had the same sarcastic expression on his face. But, his neck was pierced through by something, a bloody hole ripped open in his neck.
Due to the major artery being hit, a large amount of blood sprayed out instantly, staining a large area of the grass red.
"Ugh..."
This scene came suddenly. Chai San's pupils widened, and Chai Si instinctively covered his neck, which was still spurting blood. His mouth opened, and his body began to convulse. His eyes showed confusion and panic. He seemed to want to say something, but his throat was leaking air, and he couldn't speak.
The moment Chai San and Chai Wu reacted, Chai Si's eyes lost their light, and he fell directly to the ground.
Seeing this, Chai San immediately looked at the place where the attack came from, and saw a blurry figure retreating quietly within the hidden forest. "It's that bastard."
Chai San's breathing became rapid. Even though he didn't see who was hiding in the forest clearly, his intuition told him that this person was the one he was looking for.
"Never mind him. Chasing that bastard is the main thing. Whether we can become rich and powerful depends on this time," Chai San shouted impatiently when he saw Chai Wu squatting on the ground to observe Chai Si's condition. As for Chai Si's death, it didn't cause any emotional fluctuation in him.
Looking at Chai Si's miserable death, Chai Wu's face was slightly pale. He had been standing next to Chai Si just now. If he had been in Chai Si's position, he would probably have been the one to die.
Perhaps Chai San's shout had some effect, because Chai Wu gradually sobered up as well. He subtly glanced at the Sleeve Dart embedded in Chai Si's neck, then stood up without paying much attention. His relationship with Chai Si wasn't that close.
"Where is he?" Chai Wu's eyes were filled with a sharp glint.
"He ran over there." Chai San pointed in a direction. Then, he ignored Chai Wu and quickly charged forward by himself.
Although he didn't know what method Huo Yuhao had used to kill, he knew that the previous strike was only fatal because of the sneak attack. Once they were on guard, it wouldn't be so easy to ambush them.
"Whoosh."
A gust of wind rushed past Chai San. It was Chai Wu. He hadn't been hit by the Golden Light, at least not physically.
Chai San watched as Chai Wu gradually put distance between them, a strange smile playing on his lips. He wouldn't forget the terror of being hit by that Golden Light.
If that little bastard could still use that move, he would let Chai Wu take the hit for him. He didn't believe that move could be used repeatedly.
At that time, I can just swallow the reward myself. Wouldn't that be great?
The environment in the outer area of the Forest wasn't particularly complex. Huo Yuhao, with something resembling a Sleeve Dart on his right hand, moved forward swiftly.
After learning that Chai San and the others were coming, he decided to kill them to eliminate the evidence. He had originally planned to take out Chai Wu first because he was the most robust, but Chai Si was in the way, so he had to deal with him first.
As for Chai San, he was definitely the weakest of the three, so there was no need to eliminate him first.
After running about four hundred meters, the situation inside the Forest became more complex. The surroundings were overgrown with weeds and dense with thorns.
Huo Yuhao glanced back at the ground, where several deeper footprints were visible. He immediately quickened his pace, each footprint exceptionally clear. The next moment, he stopped in front of a patch of weeds over two meters tall.
He looked back again. Soon, he gathered his soul power at his feet, making his movements lighter. This time, after stepping on the grass, he left no footprints. He turned and walked toward another large tree. His movements were agile, like a monkey, and with a few leaps, he was up in the tree, concealing himself among the leaves.
Less than eight seconds after he had done all of this, a figure suddenly came rushing towards where he had been.
Huo Yuhao sat calmly on the branch, observing. He only saw one person; Chai San was nowhere in sight.
Chai Wu's gaze swept across the ground. When he saw the series of footprints extending into the thicket of weeds ahead, he hesitated. He seemed to be considering whether or not to continue the pursuit.
After all, charging in rashly made it easy to be ambushed. The reward was tempting, but one needed to be alive to enjoy it.
However, reason was ultimately overridden by the imagined reward. Chai Wu gritted his teeth and followed the footprints into the weeds.
From his high vantage point, Huo Yuhao could see the weeds constantly rustling, the distance getting deeper and deeper.
The tiger had run off, now it was time to wait for the rabbit.
