Chapter 27 - Have Some Sweets

After searching around, they didn't find any more plants in the evolutionary stage.

But some people had found something. For example, Chen Zifeng, the sharp-eyed young man, discovered two corpses hidden in the grass. The corpses themselves weren't remarkable, but all three of them were wearing the same clothes, clearly belonging to the same group. That was strange.

When the others returned, having found nothing, Ma Xiaotao stared at a very "desolate and dilapidated" burial mound.

"Tomb of the deceased mother, Huo Yun'er."

Ma Xiaotao's gaze was deep. Her red lips parted slightly as she gently read the clear inscription carved into the wooden tombstone.

"This place is so run-down after death. You must have suffered a lot in your life."

Ma Xiaotao had already turned to leave, but for some unknown reason, a flicker of emotion welled up inside her. She turned her head back for another look.

This grave was new; she could tell it wasn't a dilapidated mound that had crumbled over time.

It was like the burial mound when her mother died when she was four, overgrown with weeds, broken down, and a pile of loose stones.

Perhaps moved by something within her, Ma Xiaotao's thoughts stirred, and with a flash of soul force from her hand, a very ordinary-looking piece of candy appeared.

She walked forward and placed the candy at the foot of the tombstone.

"You suffered through a lot of hardships in life, and it's not good to be reborn after death. Eat something sweet, and it'll make the journey easier. My shimu taught me this."

With a complicated expression, she glanced at the burial mound and shook her head. A pair of wings unfurled behind her, and she shot into the sky, heading towards the gathering point.

When Ma Xiaotao returned to the stream, the others had already arrived.

"Xiaotao, did you find anything?" Zhang Lexuan asked, looking at Ma Xiaotao who had just returned.

"No," Ma Xiaotao shook her head.

Zhang Lexuan pondered, "It seems this is a unique situation. Alright, let's continue on our way, and we'll find a place to rest and eat later."

"Yes."

Zhang Lexuan's status was clearly the highest among this group; everyone was obedient to her words.

Before long, the group, having donned their flying soul tools, shot straight into the sky, heading towards Shrek City.

Within the Shrek Academy's inner courtyard, they had a very resounding title: the Shrek Inspection Team. This time, they were returning after completing a mission along the coast of the Star Luo Empire.

Flames burned from the wood, constantly leaping upwards, bringing with them scorching high temperatures. Whiffs of fragrant oil dripped down the branches. Three fish, their bodies gutted and skewered from tail to head, were enjoying the 'refinement' of the flames, working to become a delicious dish.

With a faint glimmer in his eyes, Huo Yuhao calmly watched the fish he was grilling. It wasn't surprising that the original Huo Yuhao became a master of grilled fish. With the powerful observation skills of his Spiritual Eyes, he could perfectly control the heat.

He made every flicker of flame perfectly sear the tender, slightly pink fish flesh, not a second too long, not a second too short. The grilling time for different parts of the fish was extremely precise.

Looking at the grilled fish, Huo Yuhao rubbed his chin, "It's still too plain. I'll have to get some Pickled Peppers when I get the chance. I can make a Douluo Continent version of the Chongqing grilled fish. After eating the fish, I can make noodles. Ah... that would be amazing."

He didn't have many seasonings, just salt and chili powder, but that was enough.

When the salt, which enhanced the flavor, landed on the oily fish, the two quickly merged. When the fine sand-like chili powder was sprinkled on the fish, it removed the fishy smell and enhanced the fragrance, the spicy aroma filling the air, making one's saliva flow.

After grilling the fish, Huo Yuhao picked up all three fish, moved away from the fire, and planned to sit aside to enjoy them.

At this moment, the breeze blew, carrying the aroma of the grilled fish who knows how far.

Taking a bite of the fish, his mouth was immediately filled with fragrance. The firm, chewy fish flesh gave Huo Yuhao a great taste experience. The most important thing was that whether the fish was delicious was one thing, but the key was whether there were any bones.

The fish in the streams of Douluo Continent seemed to exist solely for human consumption. Many species had no small bones.

Yes, unlike the crucian carp on Earth, which had a bunch of tiny, troublesome bones.

As the saying goes, fish without bones are humanity's best friends.

But just as Huo Yuhao was enjoying his meal, his expression instantly changed. He noticed several shadows growing larger, giving him the sense that they were approaching from above.

Alert, Huo Yuhao quickly stood up. The Sleeve Arrow on his right wrist was in an activated state, and his Heavenly Eye was ready to unleash its golden light at any moment.

But after Huo Yuhao looked up at the sky with caution, he froze in place.

He saw seven figures descending from the heavens. They all had items resembling flight backpacks on their backs, clearly flight soul tools. Judging by their exquisite appearance, their rank was likely quite high.

As Huo Yuhao looked up at the seven people, the seven people who were descending also saw him.

In contrast to Huo Yuhao's vigilance, the other six people of the seven, except for the one expressionless woman with unnaturally white skin, looked at Huo Yuhao with calm expressions.

After they landed on the grass, Huo Yuhao instinctively moved back a bit. Although these people could probably kill him instantly, there wasn't much point in creating distance. It was more for his peace of mind.

"Don't be nervous. We just happened to be here to rest and eat something," said a woman with a gentle voice. Huo Yuhao glanced at her a few times and nodded instinctively, but his vigilance didn't lessen at all.

Even though the women in this group were all beautiful, even stunningly so, Huo Yuhao wasn't someone who let lust cloud his judgment. He knew his limits and didn't stare. He just briefly scanned their faces, making a simple assessment.

Zhang Lexuan couldn't help but chuckle inwardly when she saw how wary Huo Yuhao was, but she also gave him a higher regard. She could sense that Huo Yuhao's aura was weak. It was inevitable to be alone in the wilderness, and having vigilance would allow him to go further.

"Smells so good."

Suddenly, the chubby man standing behind everyone sniffed, his small eyes immediately lighting up as if he had discovered a new continent. His gaze shifted and instantly locked onto the grilled fish Huo Yuhao was holding.

Huo Yuhao was still warily looking at the gentle woman, completely unaware that his grilled fish had caught someone's attention.

Zhang Lexuan smiled and said to everyone, "Alright, everyone, rest here. After eating some dry rations, we'll continue on our way. We must return to the academy to report today."

"Alright."

Everyone answered in unison.

Academy?

Huo Yuhao suddenly caught a word.

"Your eyes are beautiful." Zhang Lexuan looked at Huo Yuhao again. Gazing at his eyes, which were as bright as stars, she didn't hesitate to praise him, and also eased the atmosphere.

"Thank you." Faced with the praise, Huo Yuhao didn't put on a cold face as if others owed him millions, but smiled and expressed his gratitude.

After saying this, Zhang Lexuan and Han Ruoruo went to the side, accompanied by several other girls.

"Hey, little brother, are you selling this grilled fish?"

Just as everyone found a place to sit down and eat, the fat man walked over and asked Huo Yuhao.

This time, Huo Yuhao didn't put any distance between them. He stood still. After all, if these people really wanted to kill him, a simple pressure of their aura would be enough.

Hearing their companion's words, the others realized what was happening and instinctively looked at Huo Yuhao's left hand.

Suddenly, they looked at the incredibly nutritious, yet stone-like meat in their hands, then glanced at the grilled fish, slightly covered in chili powder, that looked so tempting, and their expressions became complicated.
