My eyesight faded in and out. Pain throbbed all over my body. Am I alive? But I thought for sure I'd died. Voices echoed around me. Is it those thugs? What are they saying?
"You're a freak nova" suddenly my vision came clear and I could hear again. The people standing there wasn't those thugs but a kid, no older than seven with untamed brown hair standing over me with a cruel smile. Two other kids stood by his side.
"No-va?" I muttered in confusion.
"Hey boss I think you hit him too hard. He doesn't even remember his own name" they laughed cruely.
I don't understand. Why am I the same height as these children? And why are you calling me nova? I caught my reflection in a nearby and gasped.
Blonde spiky hair and red eyes. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I've been turned into the protagonist of my favourite light novels. As much as I love that story living through it's another thing! My final wish was to live a better life and yet I've been reborn as the protagonist voted to have suffered the most. Still I made a promise to myself...
"Hm?" The kids looked up in surprise as I rose to my feet and put my fist up.
"I'm not going to be pushed around anymore" I breathed heavily with a smirk "put your hands up and fight like your life depends on it"
"Wh-what the hecks the matter with you" he trembled at my sudden confidence "stop smiling like that you freak!" He threw a clumsy punch. I dodged with ease before kicking him into a wall. As he regained his balance I took the opportunity to punch him in the gut over and over again.
He fell to his knees and threw up. I looked over at the other two "who's next?"
"Mommy!" They burst into tears before running away.
"What the hell? Some friends you are!" He yelled after them before glaring at me "you'll pay for this" hatred burned in his golden eyes before running away.
I grinned proudly. Man standing up for myself feels awesome. What a rush! My good mood was ruined by the fearful whispers of the villagers. That's right. Nova was hated by the villagers. That's what eventually led to his tragic end.
I held my head high as I walked away. Things are going to be different for me. From here on out I'll only look out for myself.
