Before he reached the cube houses, he heard sounds of shouting.
'What's happening.' it sounded like a battle was undergoing ahead.
He increased his speed and ran towards the voices. But as he ran, his body started growing in size and height.
'Eeeeh, I need to calm down.'
Wesley had not yet mastered the art of being calm and whenever he was overly excited, he would lose control over his body and would start increasing in size.
He forced himself to calm and controlled his body to turn back. Wesley changed the robes color to ash gray robes with patches and laden with black dust before he reached the battle.
When he could actually observe what was happening, Wesley was shocked to his core. Three warriors were fighting a grotesque four legged beast of around two meters in height and three meters in length. It had sharp tusks protruding from its mouth, spiky black fur that pierced through the metal houses easily and a spiky tail that worked as a whip.
The three warriors were putting on black brocade robes with masks on their faces with swords in their hands and were trying to fight it but it looked like they were evenly matched. They were fighting in a pattern that indicated that they had been fighting together for a while. One would block the tail or fangs of the beast and the other two would leave wounds on it. The beast would let low growls whenever it was cut. Wesley could see black blood dripping from the wounds but they were just skin injuries to it. And as they fought, one of them noticed the approaching Wesley.
'Hmm, retreat' he shouted to the others once he got a clear look at Wesley. Although Wesley had disguised himself very well, he still looked like a strong burly man and in this era it would not mind one to be cautious.
All the three retreated at once and kept a distance from the beast. They gave a vigilant look towards Wesley and another at the beast.
Surprisingly at this time, the beast also stopped attacking and stared at Wesley. Its red eyes emitted a look of caution. It felt a faint sense of threat from Wesley.
'Brother, can you fight?' one of the warriors who had two short swords asked Wesley when he realized that the beast had stopped attacking and was just staring at the dusty looking man. To this man, Wesley looked like a warrior and for the beast to stop in its tracks meant that Wesley was someone who could threaten it or had something on him that made the beast cautious. His intuition told him it was the former, it had saved him in worse situations before.
'First, can we trust him? A voice whispered and asked the man who had just spoken.
'Third, trust me, you and Second can see that we can not take this beast down after all this time, and if it was not for the appearance of this man, I would have told you to run' the man whispered back.
Wesley could actually hear their whispered words due to his enhanced senses, he just pretended not to have been able to.
'Yes I can fight but I have no weapon'
'Which type of weapon do you use? ' the first man inquired as he looked at Wesley incredulously. Wesley looked to be a body refiner to him.
'Brother aren't you a body refiner? ' a second man asked Wesley in shock.
'Ummmm, I do not think so.' Wesley answered in surprise. He did not know what a body refiner was. The first man saw the surprise on Wesley's face and knew they had met a green horn but he still trusted his instincts, Wesley felt dangerous.
He threw one of the sword he was holding towards Wesley and said.
'Introductions will be done later, we shall keep the beast occupied and you will find opportunities to strike at its weak points.'
Wesley grabbed the sword and nodded to the man in acquiescence. The sword felt light to him but it would do. His mortal grade swords had a function of adjusting their weight according to what he could handle for his body but they were in the ring and he did not want to show them.
He curled his lips in a smile and followed the other three warriors to besiege the beast which was getting antsy.
The three attacked the beast in a triangular formation, one would attack from the front and the rest from the side. He would leap back whenever the beast attacked and that would give an opportunity for the rest to attack its flanks.
'Hmm, they look like they know what they are doing.' Wesley pondered as he looked for an opening. From what he could see, the beast had two weaknesses, its eyes and mouth. The rest of the body looked difficult to actually deal a major injury unless he used his swords.
'now' he shot out with a thrust of the sword when he saw one of the warriors jump back to avoid the beast's claws. He was aiming for one of its eyes and he was pretty sure he would stab it.
With speed that defied logic, the beast tilted its head and the sword instead clashed with one of its tusks.
'Boom,' the tremendous force generated between the tusk and the sword made them to separate. Wesley took five steps back while the beast took three. Before he could stabilize himself the beast attacked in a flurry and sent its tail stabbing towards his head. He lifted his sword to block it and was sent flying backwards.
Using the sword, he tapped it on the ground and flipped himself upright midair and then landed the ground steadily.
He looked at the beast which had been entangled with the three warriors when he had been shot back and the only thing in his mind was,
'it is different from fighting with a dummy.'
With a stomp, he went back and joined the fight.
