Chapter 25 - Lost Memories

Ronan's eyes flickered before slowly opening, a soft groan escaping his lips as he attempted to move his head.

[Finally, you woke up.]

Ronan looked around, and no one was in the room except Shael, who was sleeping.

[Let me fill you in with the situation.]

Ronan clearly saw Shael, and he was sound asleep. "Who's talking?" He looked around, flustered.

[I am System 8685. You are hearing me inside your head. You have lost your memories completely because you were shot in the head. You actually transmigrated from your world, where you lived in the country Gordan. You ended up in the world of an omegaverse novel called Taken By My Seductive Alpha. You have to complete all the tasks to escape this world and go back to your own world. You have successfully completed the first task.]

"So you are saying that I lost my memories?" Ronan's breath trembled with his effort to speak. "How?"

[You took a bullet for your omega and lost all memories as a result of brain trauma. And please, you can also talk in your head, I can hear your thoughts.]

"Omega?" Ronan tried speaking in his head.

[Yes, Protagonist Shael, the one sleeping beside you.]

Ronan turned his head to glance at Shael. "A man!"

[It's the world of omegaverse, where gender doesn't matter. Omegas are usually attractive, fertile, and can offer comfort to their Alphas.]

"Fertile?" Ronan squinted his eyes.

[They can become pregnant and give birth to offspring.]

"A man giving birth!" Ronan tried to sit up and looked at Shael, but the pain pierced through his head like his head was struck with lightning. "Whatever, I am not getting a grip on anything. So what about my family. I mean my family in my world? And why would I end up in this world?"

[You have your parents and an older brother Roman back in your own world. You were CEO of the fashion company Draviel, dominating the fashion industry successfully. You got into an accident and were given a second chance to live, but before that, you would have to complete your mission in this world.]

"What are the missions?"

[Two new strategies detected. You can complete either one and go back to your world.]

"What strategies?" Ronan stared at Shael all along, thinking, "Is he the man I sacrificed myself for?"

Shael's face wasn't fully visible, his arm and his front lock of hair covering his face to a greater extent.

[The first one is to gain Omega Shael's complete trust that counts in numbers as 100. The second one is to complete the basic novel's abusive plot, which is abusing Omega Shael in the relationship and, after he gets pregnant, making him abort the baby.]

"What the hell? Why is the novel plot so ruthless? Of course I would never do something like that." Ronan's face scrunched up as he shuddered. "I would rather try to gain his trust. Moreover, I basically gave up on my life to save him, he will start trusting me completely."

[Author's note: He is never going to trust you completely. He is a character I created. I broke him to the extent that he wouldn't be able to trust you completely, whether he loves you dearly or not.]

A nurse entered the room at this moment, and Ronan looked at her.

"Are you awake?" she approached Ronan. "You shouldn't get up, please lie down."

She helped him lie down and tilted his bed into a half sitting position.

"Let me call the doctors." She sprinted out.

Shael woke up at the nurse's loud voice and looked at Ronan, whose eyes were open, his face swollen and wrapped in a bandage.

"Ronan, you are finally awake! Are you feeling any pain?" His grip became stronger with every word on Ronan's hand.

Ronan's eyes were fixed on Shael's pale face, his eyes loaded with puffiness. "He is so gorgeous to be a man," he thought.

"Yeah, my head hurts," Ronan replied, still lost in thoughts.

"How am I supposed to abuse him?" Ronan thought.

The doctor ventured into the room along with the nurse from earlier. "Are you feeling any discomfort?"

"Yeah, my head is exploding. I'm having a severe headache," Ronan replied without looking at the doctor, his eyes still fixed on Shael, who was looking at him with puppy eyes filled with unknown waters.

"Please administer 25–50 mcg of morphine IV," the doctor instructed the nurse, who stepped out to follow along.

"Do you remember who you are?" the doctor asked, slightly leaning toward Ronan.

"Why are you asking him that?" Shael interrupted, getting an ominous feeling.

"Because his cerebrum was injured. We are suspecting possible aftereffects like memory loss or change in personality, feelings, or perspective on things." The doctor explained so that Ronan would be able to pinpoint his condition.

"Ronan, do you remember me?" Shael turned to him as he held onto his arm with both hands.

Ronan looked at him for a while. "Not really. Who are you?"

Although Ronan had basic information, it would become extremely difficult and obvious if he were to pretend that he remembered everything.

Shael's hands slipped away, and tears floated out of his eyes, his breath quickening.

"Do you remember who you are?" the doctor proceeded with further questioning.

Shael was still struck with Ronan's words: "Who are you?"

Their relationship, everything they had built up, was erased from Ronan's memory. They had barely gotten closer, and now they were at point zero again. "It's okay, we can start over again," Shael thought and grabbed Ronan's hand once again.

"We would have to do further tests," the doctor said, closing Ronan's file. "Please rest for now. You shouldn't move much." He turned to Shael. "Please take good care of the patient."

The nurse administered morphine to Ronan, and he fell asleep soon after. Shael's heart was welcoming all kinds of fears. "What if he doesn't love me anymore? What if he doesn't stay by my side anymore? Is he going to abandon me?"

[70] The mechanical sound said, but Ronan couldn't hear it.
