The door creaked open and he walked in, his alpha aura radiating across the room. A single look told me he was proud — unbearably proud. But when his ember eyes met mine, the same color as the wolf that had marked me in my memories, something colder clicked into place and that he was the one I had come back for.
He mocked me and the feast he believed I didn't deserve. Maybe he thought he was right, that I didn't deserve it. Still, I deserved more than this. I deserved a reckoning, because he was alive and walking free and he owed me that for every mercy I'd spared him.
Something snapped inside me. And my hands trembled while the servant tasted each dish and nothing happened. He was going to have me killed. He meant to hang me alive on a pole, a grotesque ornament by his parents' graves.
