Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Mercenary Organization

Hidden Rain Village.

After leaving the shop, Nagato and the others rushed back to Amegakure.

"Where are Kakuzu and Orochimaru?" Nagato asked as he looked around the empty base.

At his words, everyone shook their heads, indicating that they didn't know.

"Hahaha, I didn't expect you to be so fast, Orochimaru. That guy ran so far, yet you still managed to catch up to him."

At that moment, Kakuzu's voice came from outside.

Hearing it, Nagato and the others instinctively turned their heads toward the entrance.

"Haha, your Earth Grudge Fear isn't bad either."

The two walked in together, arms hooked, only to find that everyone inside was staring at them.

At first glance, Orochimaru immediately recognized Nagato—wasn't this the child Jiraiya had adopted back during the war?

In an instant, Orochimaru understood, but he did not bring up the events of those years.

He licked his lips and asked, "So this is the true face of the leader?"

Kakuzu looked at Nagato curiously. He hadn't expected that the one leading them would actually be such a pretty boy.

Nagato nodded expressionlessly and said calmly, "Since you're here, I'll explain Akatsuki's next plan. We need to quickly raise two hundred billion."

At that, Kakuzu's eyes widened in shock. His face was full of disbelief as he couldn't help but exclaim, "Two hundred billion?!"

He could hardly believe his ears. If they could really earn that much money, he would be absolutely delighted.

Nagato gave a slight nod, confirming, "Yes. We need sufficient funds to purchase weapons from the Boss in order to achieve peace in the ninja world."

He then explained in detail to everyone present about the immense destructive power of nuclear weapons.

After listening to Nagato's description, their faces revealed expressions of shock and disbelief.

They had never imagined that such a terrifying and overwhelmingly powerful weapon could exist in this world.

"Can an entire shinobi village really be destroyed in an instant?" A glint of excitement and curiosity flashed in Orochimaru's eyes—he had developed a strong interest in nuclear weapons.

Although he was currently devoted to his pursuit of immortality, the scientific madman within him had never changed.

He began to wonder whether he himself could develop such a devastating weapon…

After all, when Orochimaru had dismantled the gun he had purchased from Yun Xiao, he was surprised to discover that its mechanism was actually simple and easy to understand.

If given the time, he was confident he could replicate it piece by piece.

Now, he was extremely curious about the nuclear weapons Nagato spoke of.

Orochimaru thought to himself: once they bought one, he would definitely dismantle it to study. With his intellect, developing a nuclear bomb didn't seem all that difficult.

He licked his lips in excitement, already imagining himself in the process of building one.

After all, something developed by his own hands was far better than something purchased from Yun Xiao. Keeping the technology in his own grasp was much safer…

If Yun Xiao knew what Orochimaru was thinking right now, he would probably let out a sharp, explosive scream—nuclear bombs were absolutely not something you could take apart!

If Orochimaru ever secretly dismantled one, the entire Hidden Rain Village would ascend to heaven along with him.

"Then, do any of you have ideas on how we can make money quickly?" Nagato asked, looking expectantly at everyone present.

They glanced at one another, each deep in thought. After all, everyone was short on money.

Each person was rapidly searching their mind for possibilities, trying to find a method of quickly amassing wealth.

Suddenly, Kakuzu's eyes lit up with excitement. "I think our Akatsuki can transform into a mercenary organization. That way, we can take on commissions and earn money quickly.

If we build up our reputation at various bounty offices, naturally people will come to us with missions!"

As expected of the most money-minded member of Akatsuki, his suggestion resonated strongly with everyone else. They all agreed.

"Impressive, Kakuzu, your business sense is remarkable!" Jūzō Biwa praised with admiration.

Nagato nodded in agreement. "Kakuzu's plan is feasible. From now on, half of all commission rewards will be set aside for the organization to purchase nuclear weapons."

Everyone nodded, understanding and supporting Nagato's decision. They knew that only by working together could they achieve Akatsuki's ultimate goal.

Nagato continued, "At the moment, our organization is short on manpower. So while you are carrying out missions, I want you to keep an eye out for potential recruits.

If you come across individuals with strength and potential, consider inviting them to join Akatsuki."

"Understood," everyone responded.

"Then from this day forward, let Akatsuki's name resound throughout the world of bounty hunters!" Nagato declared passionately.

"Hmph, feels pretty exhilarating," Sasori of the Red Sand murmured with a faint smile tugging at his lips.

Jūzō Biwa trembled with excitement, greed flashing in his eyes. He had finally found a way to earn money!

He was already imagining the scene of himself, flush with wealth, obtaining the Blood Demon Blade…

Kakuzu pulled out several maps and handed them to the group. "All the gold exchange points in the shinobi world are marked on these. With your abilities, I'm certain you'll complete missions flawlessly and make Akatsuki's name resound far and wide!"

Kakuzu was brimming with enthusiasm. He had always harbored a dream of joining a mercenary group, but for various reasons, that dream had never come true.

Now, his hope had been rekindled. With their combined power, he firmly believed Akatsuki would soon become the greatest mercenary organization in the entire ninja world!

Nagato accepted the maps and studied them carefully, nodding in satisfaction. "We'll divide the missions according to these maps. Each of you will take responsibility for a different country!"

"I'll go to the Land of Fire," Orochimaru said without hesitation.

"Then I'll head to the Land of Wind. It's been so long since I've been back…" Sasori murmured, his voice tinged with faint sorrow as he recalled the past.

"I'll take the Land of Water," said Jūzō Biwa. He hadn't returned in a long time and wondered how many of his former comrades were still alive.

"Konan, you go to the Land of Earth. I'll go to the Land of Lightning," Nagato arranged in an orderly manner.

Konan gave a silent nod, and her body instantly transformed into countless sheets of paper that fluttered out of the base.

"Let's go!" Nagato said, then dashed out.

Everyone else departed as well.

Only Kakuzu was left behind, his clothes tattered, standing all alone in the wind…

He looked around at the empty room, unable to stop himself from complaining: "So where the hell am I supposed to go?"

In a hurry, Kakuzu ran to catch up. Since he didn't know where he was supposed to head, he decided to just follow someone.

Noticing Kakuzu trailing behind, Jūzō Biwa asked curiously, "Kakuzu, why are you following me?"

"I heard you're a traitor from the Land of Water. I'm worried that if you return alone and your identity gets exposed, you'll be killed," Kakuzu said matter-of-factly.

"Thank you very much, Kakuzu!" Jūzō Biwa said gratefully.

Considering Kakuzu's status as a rogue ninja, and the beheading sword in his possession, Jūzō realized he had a point.

If anyone discovered him, they would undoubtedly stop at nothing to seize his Executioner's Blade.

Kakuzu, relieved that his excuse had worked, secretly sighed in relief.
