"Obito-kun, take out the money and count how much there is!" Black Zetsu rubbed his hands together excitedly.
Obito's thoughts were pulled back by Black Zetsu's words.
He activated his Mangekyō Sharingan and took out all the money the Uchiha clan had given him.
The two of them stared at the mountain-like pile of wealth, their eyes gleaming as they quickly began to count the Uchiha clan's fortune.
After a long while, Black Zetsu finally exclaimed, "A total of eighteen billion ryō!"
No wonder they were a clan passed down from the Warring States era—their inheritance was truly astounding!
Even Obito was shocked by the Uchiha clan's resources.
But his expression soon darkened as he recalled his childhood—how everything depended on his grandmother raising him. Although the clan provided a subsidy, it was barely enough to sustain them.
His family's financial situation had always been difficult. Only after he became a shinobi and was able to take on missions did their conditions begin to improve.
Obito never expected that the clan had this much money, yet they never used it to help those members who were in need…
"Since you're unwilling to spend it, then I'll spend it for you…" Obito muttered to himself.
After dividing up the spoils, Black Zetsu said, "Obito-kun, there's nothing left in Konoha anymore. We need to move to another village."
Obito nodded at those words. They had already "visited" all the major clans, leaving nothing of value behind…
In fact, one could even say that the combined wealth of Konoha's great clans wasn't even as much as a single minor clan's assets.
It was indeed time to change hunting grounds. The two of them packed up their things, preparing to flee under the cover of night.
Just as they set out, Obito suddenly stopped, turning his head to glance back in the direction of Konoha.
Seeing this, Black Zetsu asked curiously, "What's wrong, Obito-kun?"
"You wait here, I'll be back soon." With that, Obito began walking toward Konoha.
Inside Konoha.
Knock knock knock!
"I'm coming!"
Inside a small house, a blond-haired boy quickly ran to the door and opened it upon hearing the knocking.
"Grandpa Hokage!" the boy called out happily.
"Little Naruto, Grandpa came to give you your living expenses." Hiruzen Sarutobi said with a smile, handing Naruto an envelope.
"Thank you, Grandpa Hokage!" Naruto said gratefully.
But when he received the envelope, he immediately noticed it was thinner than usual.
Naruto glanced at the envelope in his hand, then looked up at the kind smile on Hiruzen's face.
With a puzzled expression, he asked, "Grandpa Hokage, why is my allowance so little this month? Did I do something wrong?"
He looked at Hiruzen with a wronged expression.
Seeing the boy's pitiful look, Hiruzen felt a pang of guilt in his heart.
He patted Naruto's head and said, "It's not like that. Recently, there's been a thief in the village."
"The village's money has been stolen, so this time your living expenses are less than usual."
"I see!" Naruto clenched his fists tightly, angrily declaring, "That thief is despicable and shameless!"
Naruto was fuming. Because of this damn thief, his already meager allowance had become even smaller.
"You should try to save your money, Naruto. I have some things to take care of, so I'll visit you another day." Hiruzen said with a gentle smile.
"Got it. Goodbye, Grandpa Hokage!" Naruto replied.
After Hiruzen left, Naruto closed the door and muttered, "This month's allowance isn't enough… looks like I'll have to go hungry again…"
For years, he had often gone hungry because of a lack of money.
Sometimes, even when he had money, some shopkeepers refused to sell to him once they saw who he was.
Thinking of this, tears welled up in Naruto's eyes. He sobbed quietly, "Dad, Mom… where are you…"
Knock knock knock!
Just then, the knocking sound came again.
Naruto hurriedly wiped his tears away and shouted, "Grandpa Hokage, I'm coming right now!"
He thought Hiruzen had returned, since in all these years no one else had ever come to his home.
But when Naruto opened the door, it wasn't Hiruzen. Instead, it was a stranger carrying many items in both hands—none other than Uchiha Obito.
"Who are you?" Naruto asked curiously.
"Hello, Naruto! I am your father's student." Obito said with a smile.
Hearing this, Naruto's eyes widened in shock. "Uncle, you know my dad?!"
Obito stepped into the house, frowning deeply when he saw Naruto's living conditions. He hadn't expected it to be so poor.
On the table, there was even expired milk.
"Uncle, do you really know who my dad is?" Naruto asked eagerly, filled with expectation.
Obito looked at Naruto, his heart filled with guilt.
After all, Naruto's tragic fate was caused by him.
If not for the Nine-Tails incident, Naruto might have simply lived like Asuma—just another shadow in the village…
"Uncle… Uncle," Naruto called out.
Hearing the boy's voice, Obito came back to his senses and placed the items he carried onto the table.
He patted Naruto's head and said, "Of course. Your parents are just away on a mission. They'll be back in a few years."
Naruto's face lit up with joy. "Uncle, is that really true?!"
"It's true. But you must not tell anyone about this, otherwise your parents won't be able to return." Obito said seriously.
Naruto quickly nodded. "Don't worry, Uncle, I won't tell anyone!"
"And you can't tell anyone that I was here today."
Naruto nodded again, his heart racing with excitement. So he did have parents—they were simply away on a mission.
He wasn't the "parentless child" people said he was!
At that moment, Obito noticed that the Nine-Tails' chakra was already affecting Naruto. Though the boy hadn't started training yet, his future training would certainly be interfered with by the beast.
Obito activated his Sharingan and looked at Naruto. Naruto immediately fell into a daze.
Inside the sealed space.
"You damned Uchiha! I'll kill you!" The Nine-Tails roared furiously.
It recognized Obito instantly—he was the same Uchiha who had once controlled it years ago.
Naruto, finding himself in this strange space, was terrified when he saw the Nine-Tails. He quickly hid behind Obito.
"Quiet, Nine-Tails!" Obito glared at the beast.
The Nine-Tails instantly fell into a genjutsu.
Back outside.
Naruto snapped out of his daze and curiously asked, "Uncle, what was that big fox just now?!"
"Just a pet."
Obito pulled out a thick envelope and handed it to Naruto. "This is your allowance from your uncle. I have some matters to attend to, but I'll come back to see you again."
Naruto accepted the envelope with a wide smile. "Got it, Uncle."
"Remember, don't tell anyone about me or your parents." Obito reminded him.
"I won't, Uncle!" Naruto promised.
As Obito was about to leave, he suddenly asked, "Naruto, do you know someone named Kakashi?"
Naruto tilted his head in confusion. "Uncle, I don't know him."
Hearing this, Obito's expression immediately darkened. "I understand, Naruto… my name is Obito."
In Naruto's eyes, the uncle who had been talking to him suddenly vanished into thin air!
He instinctively rubbed his eyes, thinking he must be dreaming.
But when he looked at the thick envelope in his hand and the supplies in his house, he knew it wasn't a dream…
