Outside the Hidden Leaf Village.
"Hehehe, the Uchiha clan really lives up to its name as Konoha's great family—they're loaded!" Black Zetsu rubbed his small hands together excitedly.
Standing behind him, Uchiha Obito fixed his gaze on Zetsu's back, his eyes brimming with malice.
It was because of Black Zetsu's schemes that he had been made into such a fool, tricked and manipulated all these years.
He had believed in the fake Infinite Tsukuyomi. If not for Yun Xiao's warning, he would still be drowning in that illusion even now.
If not for their current cooperation, he would have already figured out a way to kill Black Zetsu.
When Black Zetsu turned around and saw the unfriendly look in Obito's eyes, he scratched his head awkwardly and said,"Don't look at me like that. Sure, I used you, but I wasn't lying when I said Infinite Tsukuyomi was real…"
In Zetsu's mind, if every person in the shinobi world became nourishment for the God Tree, and he in turn became White Zetsu, wouldn't the world finally know peace?
He felt his goal was similar to Madara's—that both sought peace—so what was the real difference?
And technically, it would be peaceful. After all, if everyone was dead, then there would be no more wars…
But Obito gave no response to Zetsu's words. At this point, he no longer believed anything Zetsu said, treating it all as nonsense.
Zetsu, realizing Obito wasn't buying it, scratched his head again in embarrassment. He knew Obito had already come to his senses—he was no longer so easy to deceive.
So, Zetsu abandoned the idea of trying to fool him.
He shrugged innocently and said, "Ah well, believe it or don't, it doesn't matter."
Obito's gaze turned cold. "We're nothing more than partners now."
Two days earlier.
After leaving the Akatsuki, Obito had been troubled. He had no head for business—so how was he supposed to make the kind of money he needed?
He scoured the shinobi world for ideas, but still couldn't come up with any reliable way to earn.
Just when he was at a loss, Black Zetsu came to him.
"Well, well, Obito-kun. You're worried about not making money, aren't you?" Zetsu asked, his half-body emerging from the ground.
The first time Obito laid eyes on Black Zetsu again, fury ignited within him like a roaring flame.
It was this shadowy thing before him that had tricked and used him for so many years!
Burning with rage, he launched an attack. But Zetsu instantly withdrew back into the earth.
Realizing he had no way to harm him, Obito stopped his assault and coldly asked,"What do you want from me?"
Slowly, Zetsu's head emerged from the ground again."Obito-kun, don't be so hasty. I came to discuss something with you!"
"Discuss? Cooperate?" Obito frowned in confusion.
He didn't understand why Zetsu would want to work with him. Now that Zetsu's plan had been exposed, what use was there in cooperating?
Zetsu, reading Obito's thoughts, grinned happily."Obito-kun, I've learned from the boss that there are other ways to resurrect my mother. I've already abandoned the Eye of the Moon Plan."
"Resurrect your mother?" That reminded Obito of when Zetsu had left the shop, visibly excited after hearing that the moon could be destroyed.
Only now did Obito realize: the so-called Eye of the Moon Plan had merely been a scheme to use the moon to revive Zetsu's mother.
So Zetsu had been using both Madara and himself to achieve that goal.
Grinding his teeth, Obito glared at Zetsu. As expected, the Eye of the Moon Plan had been nothing but a lie.
"If Madara finds out you deceived him, he'll never forgive you," Obito said coldly.
"Haha, Madara will never know. Nobody's going to bring him back!" Zetsu laughed.
The corner of Obito's mouth twitched. So it was true—everyone knew the Eye of the Moon Plan was fake. Who in their right mind would resurrect that guy? Better to let him rot in the underworld.
"Since the Eye of the Moon Plan was fake, what could we possibly cooperate on now?" Obito snorted.
"Of course, money! I came to find you so we could make money together!" Zetsu said with a grin.
"Money?" Obito's eyes lit up. That was exactly what he'd been struggling with. Who would have thought Zetsu would show up with the answer?
"I know the locations of several vaults in Konoha. There's too much money for me to move alone, so I came to you for help," Zetsu explained.
In truth, he didn't actually need Obito's help. He could clean out a vault himself in one night.
But after stealing only Sarutobi Hiruzen's and Shimura Danzo's safes, he had already been discovered.
The other clans in Konoha, upon hearing of it, immediately strengthened the security of their own vaults. Guards now patrolled regularly, and breaking in had become troublesome.
This seriously slowed Zetsu's pace. One night's work brought very little gain.
If he wanted to earn 40 billion, it would take far too long.
That's when he thought of Obito's Kamui space. With Obito, they could clear out an entire vault in mere moments.
So, he sought him out for cooperation.
"I'll locate the vaults. You move the money. When the job's done, we split it fifty-fifty!" Zetsu gritted his teeth as he made the offer.
It was humiliating to split the loot, but he was certain: with Obito, their money-making speed would skyrocket.
The moment he heard "fifty-fifty split," Obito agreed without hesitation.
And thus, the bandit duo was formed.
Although he had decided earlier not to wear a mask anymore, Obito put it back on for this work.
That very night, the two of them infiltrated the Hidden Leaf.
In the darkness, Zetsu whispered, "I'll go check the Hyuga clan's patrol pattern." With that, he slipped away.
Not long after, he returned.
"I found that every five minutes, the Hyuga guards leave the vault entrance to patrol elsewhere, but they come back after one minute," Zetsu reported.
Obito frowned. The Hyuga's Byakugan could see through anything—why bother with patrols?
But he didn't dwell on the detail. It was irrelevant.
"One minute? That's plenty of time."
As Obito spoke, the three tomoe in his eye spun, transforming into the Mangekyō. His body vanished.
Seeing him disappear, Zetsu sank into the ground as well.
The moment the Hyuga guards left, they moved swiftly into the vault.
When Obito saw the room piled high with cash, his jaw dropped. Just how much money was this?!
"Obito, hurry up!" Zetsu urged anxiously, seeing his dazed expression.
Snapping back to his senses, Obito muttered, "Kamui!" Instantly, all the money in the vault was sucked into his dimensional space.
Within just a few breaths, the vault was completely emptied.
The two quickly retreated from the Hyuga compound.
Moments later, the Hyuga guards returned.
Almost automatically, they activated their Byakugan and glanced at the vault to make sure the money was still there.
"Shit!!"
A few Hyuga cried out in horror. They had only been gone a short while—so how was the vault already empty?!
