"Hmm, Coulson, you'll handle that," Nick Fury said. "But the most important thing is: don't alert too many people. We still don't know who's been infiltrated by Hydra. If the person you send to investigate is themselves Hydra… we'd be alerting the snake before it's even ready to strike."
"I think it's not just about checking S.H.I.E.L.D. internally," Tony Stark added. "We need to look across all sectors in the U.S., see if anyone's suspicious. "That won't happen. This time it won't be that easy," Fury said. "Before, we never considered that Hydra might resurface. Even if a few manage to escape and go into hiding, it's impossible for them to lie dormant as deeply as this time. Compared to that, Hydra's infamy was clear. Any reasonable major power would know how to respond.
"Everyone must be extra cautious from now on," Fury said. "From now on, my office will conduct counter-surveillance sweeps twice daily to ensure secrecy in the records. Hydra cannot learn anything."
He was now wary of everyone in S.H.I.E.L.D. Apart from a few people he personally recruited and trusted completely, the rest were under suspicion.
"Do you want me to help? I can scan your S.H.I.E.L.D. internal network," Tony Stark suggested, intrigued by the idea of hacking into S.H.I.E.L.D.
He had done this kind of thing before—though at the time, he didn't know it was S.H.I.E.L.D. Later, after joining the Avengers, he refrained partly out of respect for Fury.
But now, this was a rare opportunity to examine S.H.I.E.L.D.'s internal network firsthand.
Fury thought for a moment, feeling conflicted. He instinctively didn't want anyone else probing S.H.I.E.L.D.'s network. Yet this issue involved a massive Hydra infiltration inside the organization.
Sending someone blindly could backfire—what if the investigator was a Hydra agent? That would be a disaster.
At this moment, they truly needed an outsider. And the only one capable was Tony Stark, aided by J.A.R.V.I.S.
Without such an advanced AI, achieving the same result would take enormous manpower and resources.
Thinking this, Fury couldn't help but envy Stark. He had too many advantages at his fingertips.
"Give me a feasibility report," Fury said finally. "And whatever you find, you must report back. I'll provide you with an access point to our internal network."
"No problem, piece of cake," Stark smiled slightly and agreed.
Meanwhile, the scene shifted to a battlefield of ruins, the remnants of a church.
Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, was guarding the core. Her eyes scanned the surroundings vigilantly. The next moment, her brother, Quicksilver Pietro, smashed through a steel soldier and arrived before her.
"Get everyone onto the ship!" Wanda told her brother.
"I can't leave you here alone," Quicksilver Pietro said.
"I can handle it." Wanda immediately used chaotic magic to split a machine soldier in two. "Once everyone's gone, you come find me."
Watching this, Tony Stark felt uneasy—no, terrified.
Earlier in the footage, Wanda had almost ambushed him. If she had attacked, his head would have exploded like a watermelon.
He had to admit: his luck had been incredible. Surviving the battlefield without his Iron Man armor? Truly miraculous.
But from this scene, it seemed the siblings had switched sides—toward doing good?
Wanda was even concerned for civilians?
What puzzled him more was the church full of steel soldier debris. He recognized them immediately because of the unmistakable features—classic catfish-like faces of his Iron Man suits.
Sure, others could build armor, but no one would replicate the catfish face, right?
Take Ivan Vanko, for example. He could make armor, fought well, but had his own style—he wouldn't mimic the catfish face.
For a moment, Stark's confusion deepened; so many mysteries were unfathomable.
"Do you understand?" Wanda asked, noticing her brother seemed reluctant to leave.
"I'm your older brother, remember? I'm twelve minutes older than you," Quicksilver Pietro said, somewhat frustrated.
He was supposed to be the older one, but it seemed like he had become the younger.
Hearing this, Wanda just laughed and shook her head. "Let's go."
She didn't know this farewell would be final.
But watching the scene unfold, Wanda twitched internally. Knowing her brother would die, even a playful sibling argument seemed unbearably tragic.
The scene shifted again to a massive ship. Hawkeye Barton stepped down, noticing someone still trapped.
Steeling himself, he flew toward the boy.
At that moment, Ultron appeared in a Quinjet, opening fire on the approaching Hulk.
He had no intention of sparing the superheroes. Murmuring to himself, he said, "See? No strings—total freedom!"
Under Ultron's gunfire, many fell, casualties mounting.
Hawkeye shielded the child, but Ultron's fire approached. At the last moment, Quicksilver intervened.
He took all the damage.
Hawkeye opened his eyes to see that Quicksilver Pietro had shielded him, saving his life.
"Didn't you see him coming?"
Quicksilver fell after leaving his final words.
He likely never imagined he would die under such circumstances, struck by another's fire.
Everyone was enraged, especially Wanda. She unleashed all her power, chaotic magic sweeping through, destroying nearby Ultron drones.
As they gathered Quicksilver's body, Hulk leapt into Ultron's Quinjet, throwing him out.
Wanda, full of rage, confronted Ultron directly.
"Wanda, if you stay here, you'll die!" Ultron tried to reason.
"I'm already dead. Do you know what that feels like?" Wanda roared, ripping out Ultron's mechanical core. Losing her brother had filled her with uncontrollable fury. "It's like having your heart ripped out!"
The scene ended, leaving everyone stunned. No one expected it to unfold this way.
Hawkeye Barton was particularly shocked—Quicksilver had sacrificed himself to save him.
From the footage, the future version of himself was prepared to die protecting the boy—but the sacrifice was rendered unnecessary because someone else saved him.
He couldn't laugh.
Quicksilver was just a child, barely eighteen or nineteen. And he himself? Almost forty.
For a young life to be lost saving him… he felt conflicted.
"Fine. I admit it—I can forgive him for previously injuring me," Hawkeye muttered, trying to ease the tension.
The mood grew heavier. This showed one undeniable truth: being a superhero comes at a cost.
Sometimes the price is paid by others. Sometimes, it is paid by oneself.
