Vine-ripened tomatoes! Juicy crunchy cucumbers! Sweet and spicy peppers! This is the garden of...Steve.
Ztt. Ztt. Ztt. It's 9 am. Steve turned off his alarm clock, got up, and prepare himself for the day. He went outside into his backyard for a breath of fresh air. Haaah. What a nice day today. He savored his garden as he walked through the arched trellises, through which the sunlight peeked through the flowers and grape vines.
Steve approached his heirloom tomatoes and picked one that was big and deep red. He brought to his nose and inhaled. Back in the kitchen, he sliced the tomato into thick slabs, and sprinkled on salt and pepper. After toasting a slice of ciabatta, he grabbed a clove of raw garlic and rubbed it against the bread. On goes a slice of tomato, a layer of prosciutto, a few leaves of arugula, and a healthy drizzle of single source Spanish extra virgin olive oil. Oh, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze, to spite the Italians.
Steve took a bite. The acidity and sweetness of the the tomato and balsamic glaze balanced the richness of the prosciutto and olive oil, with a kick from the garlic and arugula. But the star was the tomato, which had the aroma, sweetness, intensity of ten tomatoes in one. The juice and flavor of the fresh, sun-ripened garden tomato overwhelmed Steve. Pure bliss.
