Backpain, the enemy that he would be encountering quite frequently given the slightly homeless situation.
He stood up, stretched, spin here, pop there, the cloak swaying with his movements.
Today was the day, get the adventurer document, take on a quest, and win some money, because this situation is depressing.
He headed out towards the guild, feeling determined, and even happy. This is going to be a good day.
At the guild, he immediately went up to the receptionist desk, and placed 500 Eris on the desk.
"I'm here to get my document." - He said.
"The adventurer's card? Right away." - The girl replied, taking the money, before standing up and walking towards the back of the room and taking a crystal ball device thingy.
She placed it in front of him.
"Alright, just place your hand above the crystal sphere."
Svetislav did just that.
The device began doing stuff: parts shook, dust seemed to gather through the little funnels, after which it instantly began writing after confirming the perimeters of the card...
"Printing technology with magic... Less stylish than i thought." - Svetislav thought to himself. For some reason, the thought of vintage printers sounded more appealing to him than whatever this is.
After the machine had finished printing, the girl took the card and inspected it.
Instantly she seemed impressed.
"Oh my, your intelligence is at the maximum, you could be a great mage, and all your other stats aren't lagging behind, except for your luck, it's average."
"So, good?"
"That's more than good, at this point you might be able to match the archpriest that got her card the other day."
"I don't like comparing myself with someone else. Takes away all happiness from accomplishment. Now if you may." - Svetislav extended his hand to take his card.
She gave it with delight: "Welcome to the team, Svetislav!"
"Thank you. Now can you help me with something else?"
"Yes, what could that be?"
"What quests are easy and also very rewarding?"
"Well there are a lot of giant toads outside the walls, so there will be plenty of those. The total reward is one hundred and twenty-five thousand Eris."
"Lovely. That's it then. See you later."
And so Svetislav went off after grabbing the quest sheet.
But before that - a little detour. He wasn't planning on going in the fields with only a dagger, so he searched around the greenery next to the wall for any straight branches. His idea: spears.
He will simply need to carve an edge with the dagger, then taking the toads out from range.
Walk around, check, walk more, check, repeat that, and soon you would find the perfect stick. A whole lot of young trees. He cut one down, removed the bark, which took him about one hour and thirty minutes, before finally making an edge. With the proper technique he succeeded in making a good edge.
With that done, it was time for a big hunt.
He went to where the toads were, who were lounging in the sun. He prepared and struck first, aiming for a head shot he ran forward, after which he threw. A few seconds later, the toad had a spear sticking out of the top of it's head as it collapsed.
The form Svetislav took to throw this spear was amazing, the perfect motion to maximize the strength and speed of the spear, while not having any tools for throwing.
He went to the fallen toad, before grabbing the spear, but as he did that more toads came from all directions...
"This is going to get messy." - Svetislav said, the dagger staying on his hips for when it is needed.
One of the toads directly tried to bite him, and it succeeded.
But before his movements were restricted, he placed the spear in such a way that it would harm the frog - the dull part at the bottom and the sharp one at the top.
It immediately collapsed as it tried to chew.
He pulled out the spear from the top of the frog's mouth and got out from it's maw.
He prepared for close range combat, keeping another toad that tried to eat him at bay.
Not until another attacked from behind, swallowing him whole.
Svetislav took a deep breath, before diving deep.
While in the stomach, he curled up and took the dagger out, before stabbing forward in the lower part of the belly. Stab, stab, stab. His hopes began to fade as the slimy, disgusting flesh didn't give way. So he tried to do it in a smarter way, aligning the pointed edge with his hand to hold it in place as much as he can, before stabbing forward, slowly at first, but once there was a small tear, he instantly pushed forward and then up, slicing a wider passage.
The light of the sun grazed his face again.
Oh, the relief.
Without hesitation he got out, while this toad's innards spewed out, it survived for a bit, but not long.
He grabbed the spear and jumped from the back of one of the toads, preparing to strike the forth toad down straight to the head. But it didn't want to die, it opened it's mouth, which he immediately countered with a well placed spear.
Svetislav wasn't even at his limits, the adrenaline kept him wide awake, unlocking the full potential of his body.
He looked at another toad which was coming his way. He got down onto the solid ground and did the same thing he did with the first one, but this time he had to time his throw, because that toad was jumping.
With a precise throw, it didn't die... Not all die easy....
Svetislav simply needed to avoid it to grab his spear again. Because there was no way that he was going through the stomach of another frog again.
So that's what he did - he ran.
By leading the toad a bit, he gave himself the perfect window of opportunity to go grab the spear.
While sprinting towards the spear, the toad shot it's tongue out, grabbing him by the waist and pulling him back.
"Not again..." - he said, grabbing onto the two sides of the toad's mouth. He struggled and struggled, but he had no power to shoot himself out of this situation.
It was hopeless... Unless. He let go and quick drew the dagger, before sticking it in the bottom part of the toad's mouth, holding himself.
It immediately spit him out and turned around to escape.
"Oh no, you ain't going nowhere." Svetislav retrieved the spear and ran after the toad, he aimed for the back legs, that's where it's jumping power came from. So he threw the spear and hit the frog directly through the left knee. It was now unable to jump properly.
But the spear got badly damaged between the bones of the giant toad.
"I should make more spears... Or a bow." - he said to himself before going full sprint and jumping onto the oversized amphibian's back, digging the dagger deep to hold on. Step by step he climbed higher, before reaching the head and stabbing it right through the skull and into the brain.
Finally, the hunt is over...
Svetislav got off, it and grabbed the spear, which was snapped in half.
He felt tired, satisfied, this was an amazing battle, surely there would be more to come.
The adrenaline slowly faded and he got more and wobbly. His entire body was shaking.
After that he went back in town, cleaned at the bath house, which was actually empty at this time of the day, and then towards the guild.
He went straight to the receptionist.
"Quest done."
She nodded and send another employee of this establishment to confirm.
After a bit the employee returned, confirmed that they have been killed and then gave him his reward of one hundred and twenty-five Eris.
Oh relaxation...
