Chapter 21 - Her Youngest

"Beijiang, what are you doing?" Han Ruochen asked softly. If not for the fact that she was worried that Han Beijiang would be scared by her actions, she would have rushed forward and hugged her youngest brother. Her poor little brother didn't even do anything wrong other than walking on Meng Yunhan, having a rendezvous with her lover.

And because Meng Yunhan didn't want her affair to be known to the public, as she was afraid of public criticism, she didn't even hesitate to push Han Beijiang into the ocean and watch him drown in front of her. Her own son. Her biological son, and yet under Master Yun's coaxing, Meng Yunhan didn't even think twice before killing him.

Han Beijiang didn't respond, and Han Ruochen didn't push him. She simply followed his gaze and noticed him looking at the eggs that she was cooking, and softly smiled. "Do you want to eat egg pudding?"

In her past life, Han Ruochen didn't know what was wrong with Han Beijiang. She was even disgusted by him, just like Meng Yunhan, as she thought that her brother was a simpleton. However, later on, she realised that her brother was not a fool but a genius. He was autistic, and autistic children had a different mindset than normal people like her.

Han Beijiang didn't nod or respond and simply stared at her, and under his gaze, Han Ruochen couldn't help but feel guilty. She had never treated Han Beijiang kindly, and it was not a surprise that the child was not willing to trust her. But Han Ruochen was also determined to fix her siblings and change their future. Even if she was the second-oldest daughter with two elder siblings over her, she was going to do her best to make sure that her siblings, who had learnt all kinds of bad habits under their mother, would straighten up.

Only by making her siblings rich and successful would she be able to make Meng Yunhan choose Master Yun and Han Ziyan over them.

"I will cook some pudding for you." Han Ruochen told her brother, and then, without waiting for a response, she started whipping some egg pudding. She knew that autistic children were picky eaters, and this was the reason why most of them were malnourished in this era, since not many parents knew about autism. What was more, the country was slowly getting back on track, which meant that many families were still not well enough to feed the autistic children different and filling meals.

Han Beijiang didn't like to eat egg yolk; he only liked to eat egg whites. However, egg whites didn't have much nourishment, and the egg yolk was what held most of the nutrients a child around his age would need. Because of his dislike for egg yolk, Han Ziyan had profited a lot. She was round and chubby, while the rest of the Han siblings looked like they were starving ghosts.

Not anymore!

Deciding to fill up the hollow cheeks of her brother, Han Ruochen quickly whipped up an egg custard for him and her. The two of them liked salty egg custard, so Han Ruochen prepared two bowls, including one for her father.

The smell of the egg custard made her stomach rumble, and Han Ruochen's face turned red. After she was locked up by the Yang family, she didn't even get a chance to eat eggshells, much less eggs. How could she not be hungry at the sight of the golden egg custard?

She also crushed the green vegetables in the garlic mortar and mixed with with the flour to form a batter and made vegetable sesame pancakes for her brother and her. The crispy, colourful pancakes were bound to make Han Beijiang hungry.

"Let's go and eat." Han Ruochen turned to look at Han Beijiang and spoke to him in a gentle voice. Who knows whether he sensed her generosity or kindness, but Han Beijiang didn't reject her like he did in his last life? He followed her and sat down at the small dining table, waiting for her to set the plates and dishes.

Han Ruochen didn't disappoint him either. She hurriedly set the dishes and then placed the chopsticks and spoon next to the bowl. Realising that there was no milk in the house, Han Ruochen pursed her lips. This won't do. She needed to talk with her father to arrange for milk cartons to be delivered for Han Beijiang and Han Jianyou. The two boys were growing up and could not continue as they had in the past.

Speaking of Han Jianyou, Han Ruochen started to worry again. She thought about how Han Jianyou was arrested for bullying a girl in his high school and wondered what that boy was doing. She needed to check up on him, too, or else she was worried that the boy might end up ruining his life.

But for now, she needed to take care of Han Beijiang.

"Well, this looks really fragrant and delicious," said Han Ruochen as she scooped out a spoonful of egg pudding with spinach and smiled at the little boy.

Maybe it was because Han Ruochen's expression was really interesting, Han Beijiang picked up his spoon and started eating. He liked the salty egg custard a lot, and even though there was no change in his expression, there was a light in his eyes.

The vegetable sesame pancakes were also cut into small pieces. This allowed Han Beijiang to pick up the small piece of pancake and nibble on it. He alone ate two to three pieces, which was equivalent to eating half of the pancake.

With Han Beijiang eating an egg pudding and half a vegetable pancake, Han Ruochen was satisfied. It seemed like the child could still be fattened up.

"Beijiang, how about—" She was just about to ask whether the boy would like to eat meat for dinner when the door behind her opened and a shriek echoed in the house.

"What are you doing?"
