Chapter 23 - Sea Scanning System: First Run (I)

Meng Yunhan's temper flared up as well when she heard the words of her husband. Clearly, the man had never lost his temper with her, but now, because of this wretched girl, he was scolding her. She raised her voice and yelled, "Good, very good! Han Yichen, I have given birth to five children for you and toiled away with you in the countryside. And yet you dare say such words to me? Jianyou is still studying in high school, and we need to collect a dowry for Ziyan and her. Do you think that by just running your mouth, we can collect money?"

"So what? Even if I don't earn much with the pig farm, it's not that bad either. And even if I don't earn enough money, don't we still have ten thousand yuan of savings? We can easily split it up. Two thousand yuan for Jianyou's studies, four thousand yuan for Ruochen and two thousand yuan for Ziyan. The remaining two thousand can be used for our retirement. What's there to make a fuss about three or four yuan milk cartons?"

As soon as the word 'savings' was spoken, both Han Ziyan and Meng Yunhan turned silent. Savings? What savings? All the money that Han Yichen had saved was given to Yun Xinye! There was not a single penny at home.

Meng Yunhan turned silent because she was guilty and worried about Han Yichen finding the truth. Though no severe punishment or the Red Army was making her march around the city, if others were to find out the truth, then she would certainly face criticism, and her family might also laugh at her. When her mother married her off to Han Yichen, she told her that she was doing this for her own good and even scolded her for not knowing anything better; Meng Yunhan had still made a fuss, saying that her mother was going to regret it.

While Han Ziyan, on the other hand, turned silent because she was upset upon hearing that Han Yichen had only set aside two thousand for her as a dowry, while he was willing to give more than four thousand yuan to Han Ruochen. She was so angry that she clenched her fingers tightly; even when the nails dug into her skin, she didn't feel any pain. Sure enough, all that talk about treating her like Han Ruochen was nothing but lies!

Han Ruochen glanced at the two women and scoffed lightly. She knew what they were thinking about and didn't bother to intervene in the situation. She got to her feet and said to her father, "I will take Beijiang outside to play, Dad."

She had spent the entire night at the police station and was quite tired, but at the same time, she was excited to check out her golden finger. She wanted to see what the Sea Scanning System could do. Thus, she didn't feel like she needed to sleep and walked out of the house.

Han Yichen didn't stop her either. He had seen the good things that Yang Jianming and Han Ziyan had done yesterday. It was a good thing that Han Ruochen was not traumatised by what happened yesterday. How could he stop her?

"Go; I also need to talk with your mother." Which basically meant that Meng Yunhan was in for another scolding.

Han Ruochen didn't stop her father.

The crimes that Meng Yunhan had committed in her past life deserved to be shot to death. Getting scolded was still nothing compared to that; if anything, Han Ruochen felt like she had gone way too easy on her mother.

Unfortunately, she knew Meng Yunhan didn't appreciate it, and she didn't care about it either.

Han Ruochen walked and walked until she reached the beach while carrying Han Beijiang. This was the first time Han Beijiang was being carried by his sister, and he was quite happy. Even though there was no change in his expression, he was looking around the beach with a newfound excitement.

Han Ruochen also felt a bit better when she looked at the golden beach and the blue waters at the seaside. She stared at the water that was slowly receding and then heard an old man sigh, "What bad luck; it's low tide."

Han Ruochen had been growing up by her grandfather's side and knew that when it was high tide and the water receded slowly, it would bring a lot of good things along, but if it was low tide and receded quickly, there was nothing to catch.

Han Ruochen sighed. She thought that she was going to test her luck, but it seemed like it was not her day.

She turned around and thought of walking around when she noticed two mud-covered brats. One was shoveling while the other was digging with an iron rake. The two of them were trying their best to collect the seafood scattered all over the beach. However, from the pitiful amount in their buckets, Han Ruochen knew that these two were failing quite miserably at it.

She walked over to them and asked, "Whose kids are you? And why are you alone at the beach so early in the morning?"

"My dad is Zhou Laosan."

"My dad is Qi Tou."

Han Ruochen blinked her eyes. Ah, so these two brats were the sons of her neighbours.

Zhou Laosan and Qi Tou were around her age, and she never expected that their children were already this big, but then again, people did marry quite quickly in those times.

"Don't look at us like that? Our fathers might not be here, but our mothers are at home. If you steal our seafood, then our mothers will beat you up for bullying us."

Han Ruochen was speechless; she really didn't want to bully the children of those whose parents went to the city to earn. Did she look that terrible?

She rolled her eyes and said to the two brats, "I am not here to bully you two."

"Don't worry; I can collect my own seafood."
