During the last week of June i needed to go renew my expired license. I asked the assigned police officer to escort me, but he opted to stay behind to take care of the house. He said i was going to a public place and needed not to worry .
He also advised me to use public transportation.
I successfully went to the station and got my license renewed.
I set off for the house. Upon reaching my gate, i rang the bell for my house help to open the gate from the inside.
Right when i was waiting, the unexpected happened…
2021 Third Quarter
There was such joy in the house. We couldn't invite as many people as we wanted. The Covid had hit us hard as a family. My wife had recovered from two infections already. It was hell for her, being pregnant and battling covid.
Most of my close colleagues had also had their treat with covid. We knew we had to be careful to invite as few people as possible, nonetheless, we had all those that matter to us around.
In the very first week of July, I travelled to South Africa. I had signed up for a 2 weeks professionals conference on Auditing and Taxation. It was an advanced program exclusive for only professionals with high ratings and credibility. It wasn't easy getting in for the program. There were several selection processes and interviews on Zoom but I still got the chance to be a part of the conference. I had missed out on the same conference 2 years ago. I had been selected by Austin and Austin to participate in that conference prior to the whole fraudulent set up.
South Africa also came with its own experience. I missed Selestine though, she was in her seventh month, and wasn't comfortable leaving her behind. I had to let her mom come over to assist the new house help, after what happened to the old one.
I enjoyed myself at the conference. It had been a while since I was in the company of great minds like myself. Joel, a senior internal auditor for the central bank of Zambia became a very close friend. We shared some personal memories and stories and we both seemed to have faced similar struggles in our career. Luckily for him, it landed him as the senior auditor whiles i was still enjoying the freedom of private practice.
He asked me to partner with him for a 2 months highly classified audit in their home country. It was a 200,000 dollars a month job. He was the one in charge of putting together a team. He offered to take care of accomodation and any other traveling expenses if i agreed to join him in Zambia for the job.
I had never had such a good offer on a silver platter. I also looked him up on the net. He was a genuine and well-respected professional in his country. Without hesitation i took the offer. I reached out to Selestine and told him about the good news. In as much as she was happy for me, she knew i wasnt going to be around for the birth of out first male child.
