2021 Second Quarter.
It was the middle of April. That faithful day my wife had come home early from work. She was having a bit of discomfort. She was feeling extremely tired. She was now in her fourth month of her pregnancy. The pregnancy was really taking a toll on her.
I had prepared her dinner and was rubbing her feet while she ate. It was our usual practice as it was my way of soothing her tired legs after work. It was around 5 that day. I heard our door bell ring. The house help attended to the door and picked up a parcel from a messenger.
I opened the parcel, wondering who could be surprising us 5 months after our wedding. But it was something better, after uwrappinng the parcel, I saw an A4 envelope branded; "The office of the Vice President ", upon seeing the inscription i felt a bit scared; "what have I done this time to attract the attention of the Veep".
Selestine realising how nervous i was took the envelope from me and opened it. There was a letter in it which she opened and started reading silently. As she kept reading i saw her face being filled with joy and unexpected she gave a shout of Joy, drew me to her self and gave me a perk. It was a recognition from the office of the Veep for my role in helping the EOCO team with the bank CEO investigation. But there was more to it; There was an offer of 150k to assist the auditor general and a selected team of experts to conduct a 2 month audit on some high profile government institutions.
Right that moment; I remembered the story of Joseph and his brothers, how their intent of betrayal turned out to be the gateway to Joseph's blessings in Egypt. I really understood the saying; "God works in mysterious ways" that evening.
It was a highly classified audit on 5 high profile government institutions. Allegations of bribery and corruption had been brought to the attention of the presidency and they need us to conduct an audit to ascertain the truth of the claims.
It was a very challenging task but also the best 2 months of my professional career.
At the end of the 2 months period we submitted our findings to the office of the presidency.
The aftermath was overwhelming, high profile government officials who were implicated were stripped off their appointments, others we reassigned and majority made to face the full rigorous of the law.
But it didnt end there for me, for the first time in my life, i feared for my life. I started receiving death threats and calls. It was a highly classified audit and the findings were submitted only to the office of the Vice President, but some way some how, the culprits got to know the team behind the audit.
The auditor general was shot once just when her was about entering his office, the shooter missed narrowly but he still got a scratch on his top left arm.
My wife now had to go to work daily in the company of a police officer. She was assigned a personal police officer as her security. That had become necessary when she received a death threatening message on whataspp from an unknow number. The threat was accompanied by images of her entering her office, leaving the house for work in her car, a very clear indication that whoever sent the message wasnt calling a bluff.
