Luna's POV
The ancient book slammed shut by itself, nearly catching Luna's fingers.
"Did you see that?" she asked Sunny, who was wrestling with his own rebellious tome three tables away in the Deep Archives.
"Mine just tried to bite me," Sunny replied, holding up a hand with teeth marks on his thumb. "These books definitely don't want to be read."
Luna stared at the leather-bound volume that had just attacked her. The title was written in old magical script that hurt her eyes to look at: "Failed Bonds: A History of Magical Disasters."
"Why would books be enchanted to protect themselves?" Luna wondered aloud.
"Because someone didn't want this information getting out," came a creaky voice from the shadows.
Luna and Sunny spun around to see the oldest librarian either of them had ever encountered. The woman looked like she might be a thousand years old, with silver hair that glowed faintly and eyes that seemed to hold secrets from before the realms were divided.
