Luna's POV
Luna's foot slipped on the rocky cliff, sending pebbles tumbling down toward the shadow fortress below.
She pressed herself flat against the stone wall, heart hammering as the small rocks clattered past shadow guards patrolling the fortress walls. One of the creatures looked up, its red eyes scanning the cliff face where Luna and Sunny were hiding.
Don't move, Sunny's voice whispered in her mind. Don't even breathe.
Luna held perfectly still, feeling sweat drip down her back despite the cold mountain air. After what felt like hours but was probably only seconds, the shadow guard turned away and continued its patrol.
That was too close, Luna thought to Sunny.
We need to get closer, he replied through their bond. We can't help our families from up here.
