Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: I am Thragg

Waking up and the Grand Regent of the Viltrumite empire was not something James thought would ever happen to him. Not because he didn't want it to happen but because Viltrumites are crazy Psychopaths hell bent on conquering the universe or something like that.

It's because Viltrumites are a fictional race that should not exist in the real world, so what happened should have been impossible. At first, he thought it was a dream, but unfortunately, it became increasingly clear that it wasn't

Although a silver lining was the fact that becoming Thragg also came with a bonus of enhanced adaptability, giving him the ability to adapt to anything and everything, essentially he became Mahoraga, so with that ability he was sure that a little dip in the sun would not kill him and not much else, he was effectively immortal.

Anyway, while Viltrumites were a crazy bunch, James or rather Thragg, had no intention of being a conquerer or a space nazi. Initially he thought just disappearing and running off to live on earth and leave these maniacs to their devices however for some reason he felt a sense of responsibility for them not only that but he'd feel guilty if he left them to continue their ways without at least trying to stop them and change their ways.

"Grand Regent, I am here. Your orders"

General Kregg entered the open and spacious room within the viltrumite mother ship and knelt on its sleek metalic floor. The Viltrumite mother ship was several times lager than a standard spaceship and as such had plenty of space and it could afford to have useless large rooms to hold meetings or audiences in.

"Kregg, speak honestly. Do you believe it's possible to maintain the empire if we continue with our conquest?"

Thragg practically threw the question at General Kregg, and Kregg could only hold his breath in surprise. This was a rather odd question from the Grand Regent, it was the type if answered carelessly could create unwanted misunderstandings.

He raised his head to answer and used that moment to look at the Grand Regent's face, trying to parse any hint that might help him answer the question without issue. Thragg's gaze conveyed a heavy seriousness, and Kregg could not parse anything from his expression.

"With our numbers, I don't believe so, Grand Regent."

He answered honestly, If this was a test, it was better to answer honestly rather than simply lying to make it seem like everything was fine. Honestly, General Kregg has been concerned about the state of the Empire for a while now

Not only was the empire cut in half during the civil war and it barely recovered but also recently the coalition's attack nearly destroyed the entire empire with the scurge virus and now the empire's forces were not even one percent of what they were before.

It was only a matter of time before the cracks began to show to their enemies, no matter how strong a Viltrumite may be, the moment its revealed that the Viltrumite empire is less than 50 men strong it would be a disaster.

"Indeed, your words are true. What do you believe should be our next move?'

Thragg asked. Although he kept a stern gaze on his face, he was inwardly smiling. As much as he could just enforce his will however he wishes he was after all the strongest Viltrumite in existence and within Viltrumite society might makes right so enforcing his will should be fairly easy

However, one can not create change by adhering to the same social norms and practices he wishes to change.

"I believe halting our expansion is necessary, once that is done, we then shift our focus on population growth by selecting a species that is not only compatible with us but one that's also similar in appearance."

Kregg suggested, carefully wording his sentence in such a way that they could not be reinterpreted and even if they are he can elaborate further to defend him. The general felt that when looking at the current state of things, his words made the most sense.

The fact that the empire was stretched so thin that the high had transitioned to a single Viltrumite Enforcer as the way to conquer worlds spoke volumes about how severely lacking in man power the Empire was.

The old three men cell task team was using too much manpower, manpower they did not have. So, a new training regimen was needed to create warriors that were at least ten times more powerful than the typical warriors, that way it would be possible for a single Viltrumite to conquer a planet by themselves.

That alone required a ton of resources, resources that the empire did not have.

"Your words make sense. However, wouldn't nurturing new younglings take too much time? and wouldn't that embolden the coalition, to add to that having young and weak Viltrumites would create an unnecessary weakness that could be exploited"

Thragg countered, he didn't disagree with Kregg infact that is what he planned, to do that he first needs to get the General to arrive to the conclusion he wants.

"That is true…"

Kregg found himself stumped for a moment, as he could not think of a rebuttal. However, at the same time, this was an opportunity to fix glaring issues within the empire and stop its eventual demise.

"However I believe that is far better compared to our current state"

"So building up manpower with the risk of creating a weakness that could be exploited is far better than letting the empire slowly decay and eventually be destroyed. Is that what you're saying?"

This time, Thragg took a more stern tone, a tone that made Kregg harden his face pensively.

"Yes, sir"

He affirmed, and a silence lingered in the room for an extended period of time, Kregg couldn't help but feel anxious. Could his words have him branded as a traitor to empire? was this a test of loyalty to the empire.

"Excellent, you said exactly what I've been thinking. However, I have a slightly more radical idea"

Thragg spoke, his tone sounding a bit more elated, causing Kregg to let out a silent sigh of relief. He remained silent, waiting for the Grand Regent to continue speaking.

"Would it not be better to simply stop our conquest altogether and then grow our population, and once that is done, we start from scratch"

Thragg suggested while he stood from his throne and descended the small stairs that led up to his throne, slowly making his way towards the general.

Hearing the words of the Grand Regent, Kregg couldn't help but raise his head and looked at Thragg with eyes filled with disbelief and surprise. However, he quickly reigned his surprise.

He could not help but be confused. Was the Grand Regent testing his loyalty to empire after all? He had to be otherwise why would he suggest something so ludicrous.

'Do I disagree?'

If he disagrees, then the issues that need to be fixed within the empire would be resolved. However, if he does agree, then he just might be branded a traitor and become a second turncoat.

"If the Grand Regent believes that to be the best way, I won't fight against it"

He said, carefully wording his words so that it sounds like he's reluctantantly agreeing to the Grand Regent's idea. He was but a subordinate. He has no power to oppose the wishes of the Grand Regent

"Worry not, Kregg, this is not a test. I truly believe this is what is best for the empire. We may have survived the scourge virus but with our numbers will not survive a second one and because of that I believe it's best for us to completely pull back and retreat, build up our man power before returning stronger, if we don't it will only be a matter of time till the empire is completely eradicated"

Thragg explained as he reached Kregg and held out his hand to help the general stand up. Seeing the hand Kregg was confused at first and seeing the look of sincerity on the Regent's face, he found himself shocked once more

Such sincerity on anyone else would have been a sign of weakness. It was completely out of character for someone like Thragg the strongest and mightiest Viltrumite however, the Grand Regent showing such a face was a sign, a sign that told General Kregg that something was going to change

"Come Kregg, let us work to ensure the empire continues live for eons to come"

Kregg was reluctant at first, hesitant to go along with this after all it would be abandoning all the work done not only by the existing warriors but also by those who fell to the scourge virus.

However, he overcame that reluctance and took the hand and allowed the Grand Regent to pull him up. Kregg was a loyal member of the Viltrumite Empire, a general that has led it to victory many times before.

Being General did not just come with leading armies but also came with the duty to protect his nation and make sure it continues to prosper. Even if the Grand Regent was acting out of character if its out of concern for the empire, then there's zero reason to oppose it.

"Send out the order for all Viltrumites to return to the mother ship effective immediately. I'll be speaking to the high council"

Ordered Thragg and Kregg heeded the orders without question.

"Yes sir"

With that, Kregg exited the room, leaving Thragg to be by himself once again. The Grand Regent heaved a sigh of relief.

"That was easier than I initially thought, I expected some fighting, but I guess Kregg was smart enough to see my plan was for the best"

He said to himself and began to look around the room and noticed that there were no guards. He couldn't tell if that was because Thragg did not need them or because they empire could not spare the man power. But it didn't matter.

"From what I remember, a few months on earth was enough to mellow these guys out and change their ways, so this shouldn't be too difficult"

The Viltrumites arrived on earth and essentially became earthlings, Lucan refused to mate with anyone except his girlfriend, Kregg built a harem and apparently loved them all, the only one who seemed to refuse to mate was Anissa but she eventually came around as well.

All that told Thragg was that the Viltrumites weren't bloodthirsty by nature but rather by nurture. They were the way they were because of the environment that shaped them. They just needed a healthy environment, and the humans on earth were enough.

"The only problem should be Conquest, but I am strong enough to keep him in line. Plus, if he's anything like his animated series version, a baddie will be good for him"

Essentially, he just has to be a wingman for the old man. After all, he's so lonely.

Also while there will be action and alot of it, this will be more about kingdom building, if you've read the fanfic Camelot's rise in Marve this fic will be like that.

Also expect other alien races from other fictional worlds, but only the aliens, nothing else, if you see an alien race from like Ben 10 don't expect other things from that world.
