Chapter 22 - Plans For The Near Future

Hearing her brother's words, she pondered the topic as well.

Spells were a masterful manipulation of heavenly essence aiming to achieve a certain effect.

There were several types of spells: offensive, defensive, agility, stealth, perception...

And they all depended on the skill of the Heavenly Ascender invoking them.

Generally, Heavenly Ascenders don't create their own spells, but rather learn already existing ones that were mastered and transmitted by other people.

It wasn't wrong by itself, but those who depend only on the spells made by other people were at the bottom of the food chain.

Only the Heavenly Ascenders willing to throw away comfort and create their own spells would have the right to stand on top.

However, most of them died or failed anyway.

But Lilith was from those who survived.

"You have already created [Soul Flash], so you don't really need any other agility-type spell," Noah added.

After thinking for a while, she gave him her answer.

"I think that what I need the most is a stealth type and perception type spells. I'll try to create an offensive spell if I have time left."

Any other person would've dropped their jaw if they heard her words. Why was she talking about creating spells like she was talking about buying vegetables in the market?

Noah nodded.

"It's a decent choice. Just make sure that you don't try to gobble everything down all at once, specialise at something for the time being then focus on other aspects when you are in a better situation."

"Un, I'll be careful."

With that, Lilith closed her eyes again and threw all her plans to the back of her mind. She would relax now, she deserved some rest.

"By the way, how old are you now, Lily? I don't want to miss your birthday." Her brother asked casually.

"I've already turned fifteen around a week or so ago, so there's no need to worry about that. Besides, I don't like birthdays..." She scoffed with a faint voice. Now that the pressure of survival had been lifted from her mind, drowsiness began to take over.

He chuckled.

"Thought that maybe you'll change your mind about it, but I guess you didn't."

Like that, they chatted for several minutes. And gradually, sleep overtook Lilith and she succumbed to slumber, her head resting on the edge of the pond.

The eyelashes of the sleeping beauty fluttered, and they opened to reveal tantalizing ghostly-blue eyes.

Lilith opened her mouth and yawned, feeling refreshed from the satisfying long sleep.

The pond was the same, hot and comfortable to her skin. Misty steam rose and obscured the ceiling of the cave room.

[Good morning, sunshine.]

Lilith cringed at the choice of words that her brother had taken, but responded to him.

[Un, good morning. Wait, is it actually the morning? How long did I sleep for?]

[Ah, to be honest, I'm just as clueless as you whether it's morning or night. But you have slept for a whole day, that's for sure.]

She felt relieved, although it wasn't a short nap, she feared that she would have remained unconscious for several days.

With her mind clear now, she turned around to step out of the pond.

Just as she put her hands on the edge and was about to exit the water, she dropped back with a small splash.

Her head was halfway submerged in water, the hot liquid touching her nose.

Her pale skin was flushed more than it would've been already because of the heat, obviously embarrassed.

After a few moments of stillness, she asked Noah:

[Un... Can't you look away for a moment or something? I need to... you know...]

She heard a smug chuckle in her mind.

[Little girl, there's nothing impressive about you to make me take a peek. But, if that's what you want, sure, I can do that.]

A vein bulged on her forehead, and her embarrassment vanished instantly as irritation replaced it.

"Hmph! And who are you to say what's 'impressive' and what isn't?!"

She pulled herself out and stepped out of the pond, her movement expressing her anger.

The droplets of water that clung to her body slid down, falling like they met with oil. Her skin and hair dried in almost an instant.

She reached into her bag on the side and pulled out the tunic that she had taken, and wore it.

After becoming a Calamity, her skinny body finally gained the weight it desperately wanted. Though, her physique was slim and athletic, more optimized for fast-paced combat.

The tunic was grey, and it looked simple and bleak, but the looks of the person who wore it made the normal cloth special.

[Can I see now? I am afraid of the darkness...]

She heard the mocking voice of her brother and grabbed the shoes that were inside the bag, with little to no hesitation, she threw them to the side—she would rather walk barefoot.

Then, she pulled out the book that she needed.

Dragonblight's Legacy.

It was time to create spells.

Lilith headed to the path that led to the entrance of the cave. After walking for a while, she reached the corpse of the white eagle. Although it had been a day since it died, the body was still well preserved.

She sat cross-legged beside it, then put the book on her lap and opened it.

[How long do you plan to stay here?]

Lilith flipped through the pages and answered:

"Around fifteen days, that would be how long I'm staying in this cave. After creating the spells I want—or failing to do so—I'll cross the Wailing Mountain and reach the other side. I can't risk those from the Draconic Empire coming here to search for who created that mess."

She hated the dragon-kin, but she didn't think of them as stupid. They will soon realize that their best chance to know what happened would be to search in the Wailing Mountain, and she wants to be already gone far by then.

With that trail of thoughts, Lilith stopped her flipping when she saw something interesting in the Rank 1 Spells of the Fire Pathway section.
