She held Ayla's milk bottle with her other hand before holding the plate and I took Ayla from her.
"Let me tell you, never ever judge Sa– Laurel Miller."
I gulped at my slip up.
Cecily looked at the roll and then me, before taking a bite of it.
Her eyes widened as she kept the roll back in the plate, looking at me with shock.
Her expressions depicting, how shocked she was.
And now I was in dilemma, the way her eyes had widened it was as if she had tasted the worst cinnamon rolls ever but on the same hand it looked like it was the best rolls she ever had, which expression was it, I was confused.
"Is it...good?" I looked over her face, trying to look for a praise.
"Good? It's amazing!" She squealed and took another bite, moaning at it's taste.
And I finally let out the breath I didn't know I was holding back,
Thank goodness.
I was happy seeing her eating it so happily, while I kept glancing over the almost sleeping Ayla who was still busy sucking on her bottle, or her mother who looked almost just like a toddler, enjoying her cinnamon roll.
I shook my head in disbelief, while a pleased smile was plastered on my lips.
After she was done devouring her roll, she looked at me half happy, half sad, bemusing me.
"What happened?" I required with my brows scrunched.
"This is so yummy, I'm afraid I won't have none left for me anymore." Her voice came out a little bit whiny.
"Why? There are probably seven more rolls left, I made a total eight. " I chuckled at her childish behaviour.
"Like Cassian would leave any for me after he finds out we have Cinnamon rolls at home!" She nagged.
"He loves sweets, when I was five, mom used to bake a lot, and half of the time, Cassian used to eat those desserts alone without even sharing a piece of it with me. I always used to pray that may he turn fat because of eating a lot of sugar but that theif he is ever so fit..." Cecily sighed.
"What about you, do you love sweets?" Cecily changed the topic.
"Me? No, not that much, just ice cream, that's something to die for, other than that I'm not a fan of sugary things, but Kalix is, he loves sweet." Taking his name from my mouth, left me all saddened and hurt, as his words from a day ago began playing in my mind.
"Did you...talked to him after what happened yesterday between you?" She said, each word before giving it a good thought.
I shook my head at her question, I still didn't know how to confront Kalix, so I didn't even try to talk to him, and then the panic attack, it worsened the situation for me even more, Kalix's suspicion would have most probably grown, and they should, after they found out how I had helped a woman give birth, when Laurel was just a business student.
"There was nothing to talk about, he judged too early." I shrugged, while looking at Ayla.
"By the way, I know it's too late but... Thank you for that night." She remembered.
"No need for it!" I tried swatting the convo away.
"No, I really mean it, I don't care if you were a business student or not– if you are or were a doctor or not, for me you helped me give birth to my child all healthy."
"A week before my delivery, I had gone for a check up and the doctor had been very clear that my stress levels were super high and because of it I will have a C–section, however that night, when I was in pain and scared, the way you held me, it gave me a weird kind of... relaxation, another kind of reassurance, the kind that maybe I didn't even felt from my own brother, even though he had been very supportive... maybe it was because of the guilt I had in me, I don't know, but you helped me and fixed something that had shattered very badly in me that night, thank you." Her confession had bought tears in my eyes as I wiped my tears away.
"Thank you... Cecily... it...really helped me...thank you so much, it did made me feel a lot better." And instead of saying another more she smiled and kept looking at me, when the house helped knocked on the door.
"Ms. Cecily, I am going back home, my son called me, my daughter has gotten a fever again and she needs me, I have called Mr. Cassian and he said that he has just entered the building...so please excuse me." The house help seemed quite in a hurry.
But her words were what shook me to my core, damn it! Why didn't I think of it before, going to Cecily's house meant bumping into the male lead... For once...just for once when I hope that things would fall right at their place instead of trapping me, whenever I try to do something nice!
I felt like screaming, cursing myself for this level of stupidity.
"I...think I should get going now, it's too late already." I bid my good byes despite Cecily trying to stop me, I grabbed my phone and turned around to the door.
Before my hand was able to reach the handle, the door opened itself and Cassian and Kalix were standing Infront of me.
My breath hitched and they both were also frozen at their place.
"Laurel, you...here?" Kalix asked while Cassian, he was busy staring at me, his hands, his whole body, it was also frozen like mine.
"Cassian!" Kalix elbowed Cassian in his stomach while he just swatted his hand away and stepped inside.
"Cecily, why didn't you tell me...that Laurel is going to be here?" He stuttered, while Kalix was busy trying to stifle a laugh and Cecily also had similar expressions, and I was getting more and more confused as to why were they behaving like that?
"It's...fine I was just about to leave." After the words Kalix had used for me that day, I was in no mood to talk to him and for Cassian, I didn't wanted to talk to him, ever since I came in this world, the hell I would talk to a man who will become the sole reason this body would die.
"What? But.. I just...I mean me and Kalix just came why don't you sit with us too." He blurted, what was so funny about this whole situation, and what was so weird or scary about me that he was stuttering like a bird...
My patience was wearing thin, and the urge to throw something at his head was growing by every passing second.
"At least take the invitation for the party we have arranged for Ayla!" He quickly spouted as if just remembered something important and succumbed through the paper bag I didn't even notice he was holding until he lifted it to take out something.
"Here!" He handed out a pink shiny envelope, with golden intricate designs printed on the corners of it.
Welcome Baby Ayla
The heading on top written in a beautiful cursive font.
"Please do come Laurel, I'll be waiting for you." Cecily stared at me with insistent expressions.
"I...will try." And without looking back, or even at Kalix and I left her apartment.
After I left Cecily's apartment, I tried as fast I could to reach my apartment.
I was feeling furious, none of them even thought about apologizing, For Cassian I get it that he doesn't take me seriously because he already likes another girl and wouldn't care if he is breaking someone's heart or anything like that but Kalix? I hadn't expected such from Kalix.
He was Laurel's brother, even if he was suspicious he could have apologised as formality, Even Cassian's anger that night was justified because he thought his sister might be harmed but what was the need for Kalix to do the same? Stupid... idiot... donkey!
I groaned as I felt like kicking him om his butt, stupid ass!
Changing into a set of pajamas, I picked the invitation card, it was pretty cute though, elegant but unique.
The party was going to be held at The Valor's farmhouse, and with Valor's farmhouse, where the most scary scenes happened.
After Cassian and Laurel's wedding, Laurel arranges a party for herself, for being welcomed in the Valor family as Cassian Valor's wife, where Elodie is invited and she catches Cassian holding Elodie's hand, because of Cassian she wasn't able to do something to her then, but after after a few days she gets Elodie kidnapped and taken to that abandoned farmhouse right besides the Valor's, and tortures her.
And leaves her all alone with her men there.
