Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

And then on top of all that, the constant fear of being watched had resided in me, at first it wasn't something I had paid attention too, like it would come and go, but now it remained there.

Whenever I walked out of the apartment, I had this weird sensation that someone was watching me, from behind or the corner of the hallway.

There was someone. Someone watching me, and that someone did not feel nice to me, not even in the slightest!

What else was there in the novel?

I got up and walked to the bedroom before taking out the novel, flipping the pages until I reached to the party scene.

The party that Laurel arranges for herself, for being Mrs. Cassian Valor, and humiliates Elodie.

Oh wait- how could I forget?

I read the line written on the page.

Elodie's dress, that was pure white a second ago had turned red after Laurel splashed red wine on her, and began pushing her back until she was an inch away from slipping in the pool, when a muscular hand came in the way and pushed Laurel away.

And pulled Elodie away from Laurel, behind him. Dressed in a white dress shirt, and black pants, with a tie wrapped around his neck, dressed as the all other waiters present at the venue.

It was Franklin, Franklin Bernard, the protecter of Elodie west, the female lead. The one who gets hired as Elodie's bodyguard after protecting her twice from Laurel, the one who Laurel hated the most.

The one who was around Elodie, every.single.time.

That's the reason he had became my most favourite character, because he knew how to protect, he wasn't like Cassian, to be honest, I didn't even liked Cassian that much unlike some other readers.

The whole fandom had gone crazy over Cassian, while I had lost my heart over to Franklin, who used to protect Elodie from Laurel.

Cassian was never present at the time when Elodie had needed him the most, but Franklin was, he used to be there in every scene when Elodie used to get in danger, protecting her from the riches without having any power in the society.

Before he dies,

That Franklin, but the question was, would he also be there at the party, and what about Elodie? Would she be there too?

This party was no longer tor Laurel, but Cassian's niece, so I am pretty sure that there won't be any type of drama, but if we try to match the novel with how the story is going on right now,

There might be a chance that a huge problem will happen at the party!

But I can't say that for sure, if new people can be added, if the plot can have a slight differ in it, so can the scenes.

And that means, I can't trust, when or what might happen, I need to keep myself prepared, not only physically but even mentally, doesn't matter what the situation might throw me into, I should be mentally strong enough to fight it.

The Next Day.

Today was the D- day, I had been preparing so hardly for, today was my interview... There were three different stages of interview, and I couldn't understand why?

Well whatever, firstly the HR team's leader was the one asking us questions, then we were sent to the manager and lastly to the CEO, Mr. Xavier Vernon, and till now I had correctly answered all the questions they asked me.

And I guess, there was a chance for me to get this job and after all the people who had came to give the interview,l were done with the questions, we were told to wait while they discussed between themselves before naming the people who passed the interview.

Even when I walked in the building, or the lift, or this block, wherever I went, the people there kept looking at me strangely, giving me looks that had me uncomfortable and sadly I was here for an interview or else, I would've reacted the same way Laurel would've and what would that be?? Of course violence!

And still people were looking at me as if I had grown horns, all of them were seated in a group however, I was sitting alone, in a corner.

Soon a man walked out of the office and began calling out some names.

First name...not mine

Second name...not mine.

Third name...not mine.

"And lastly, Ms. Laurel Miller, except for these four candidates, all the others present, you may leave, and the four chosen candidates...please follow me."

We four chosen candidates followed the man in the office, and they began telling us our jobs, and guess what?

I got hired as CEO's secretary!!

On my way back to the lift, I was so excited and took out the phone and opened the call log, before I halted my movements, I felt the need, an urgent need for someone, someone to be there and I could call them, tell them that I had gotten my job, the one that I had longed for, the one I spent hours for practising.

But sadly, I kept staring at the screen, because there was no one...not before, not even now.

Inhaling a deep breath, I controlled the tears that kept threatening to stream down my cheeks, and walked to the lift, and without waiting for a second I walked in the lift as soon as the doors open, without looking if someone was coming out making me bump into someone.

I stumbled on my steps, but regained my posture quite quickly, without falling on the ground.

I raised my head, to look at the person I had bumped into,

Luca Black.

His eyes widened, his expressions turning from a cold and stoic one into shock as he saw me, who had bumped into him and quickly walked towards me

"Oh my god Laurel! I'm sorry I didn't know it was you! Are you okay?"

"No... I'm good." I wondered what had happened to me, that within seconds, my confidence had been washed into hesistance which was forcing me to stutter.

"Well, is everything okay? What are you doing here?" He spoke while walking out of the lift and standing in front of me.

"Yeah, I came here for an interview." I shrugged but he was quite astonished.

"Why, I mean is everything okay? You working?" The way he asked, I knew what he meant, a brat earning money? Of course it would be new for everyone... including me.

"I'll tell you later, by the way what are you doing here?" I changed the topic.

"Oh yeah, the owner of this company is my friend and we have signed a contract together, I just wanted to give this file to him, wait for me, and we will go out for dinner together, I will be back within less than five minutes, I know it's rude to make pretty friends like you, wait, but I'll compensate, so wait for me."

I literally saw, the man, who looked more emotionless than a decade old statue a few seconds ago, run... I mean literally running like a kid towards the CEO's office and coming back within a minute.

"Hey, calm down! You didn't need to rush all the way there, I was waiting for you, it wouldn't had been a problem if you are another minute late." I calmed him down.

He laughed nervously as his hand went up to his nape massaging it lightly.

"No...it wasn't that, I just didn't wanted to waste time, since we are going out for the first time... together."

I was taken off guard by his reply, my breath was frozen, I was frozen, the hell did those words meant.

I was stupid, but I wasn't that stupid that if a man says these kinds of words I would not get what he is trying to hint on and the thing Luca was hitting on, I may had gotten it almost 80%, maybe I was trying to deny it too, thinking he might have just said that!

Escorting me, he took me to his car, opening the front door for me and sat in the driving seat.

"So? Where do you want to eat?" He asked, while wearing his seatbelt.

I also wore my seatbelt, even though I was quite nervous, and had been biting down on my lips, I still mustered up the courage and spoke.

"Wherever you wanna go."

"No, it doesn't works like that, it's the first time we are going together, and as I'm a gentleman, you are the one who is going to suggest the place." He literally didn't leave any excuse for me, but I wasn't someone less than him.

"Okay! If you are insisting this much, but actually my brain is not working well, how about you suggest a place... the one you like very much."
