I reread the note again and again, what surprise? Did he mean the proposal?

The rest of the day I was busy helping John and Bruno with some of their work and then arranging the meeting for tomorrow.
Today's meeting was arranged by John as he couldn't explain this work to me yesterday because of his own work, however from now on it was my work as I was taught the way to do it.
After arranging the meetings, I asked John and Bruno if there was any addition in Mr. Vernon's schedule but thankfully there wasn't, and the last work for today was to inform him about his schedule; his meetings.
Knocking on the door, I heard a come in when I walked inside.
As soon as he saw me he sat straight shutting down his laptop, he was working on.
"Ms. Laurel, you here? Is there any work?" He said removing his glasses from his eyes.
And I told him his schedule and excused to leave wjen he called me out.
"Laurel!" I stopped on my way and turned around.
"Yes, sir?"
"Did something happened.... between you and Luca?" He asked the question with a bit of nervousness.
I was taken off guard by that sudden question, as he continued.
"Actually, Luca had told me that he liked a girl, and he said that he did felt like she liked him too, and was about to ask her out, and I thought he might be in a relationship, so that's why I said it, I'm sorry I really didn't knew that you were the girl he was so smitten for, if I had known I would've never talked to you about it."
He apologised, looking as ashamed as he could be.
"It's fine sir, we have...talked it out."
"So that means, you can start looking for a wife for me now?"
His puppy eyes looked at me hopefully.
"Look, after you and Luca settle together, you are going to be my sister-in-law, so don't you think, you should look for a girl who is not only a good wife for me but also a good friend to you, I don't want to sound rude, but if you remember, you have had beef with most of our friend's wifes, I don't know if you still have it, but I can assure you that none of them will he ready to stretch their hands out to welcome you in our group, so it's best if you look for a girl, who also becomes your friend."
I was shocked listening to his words, after giving a full apologetic speech, he was still being selfish .
"Sir, I also don't want to sound rude, but I think, you can do that job at your own the best, because you are the one who will have to spend their whole life with that woman, It doesn't matter to me, yes you are right that since I had been treating all the women in your circle very rudely, had been very mean to them, still it would not matter much to me, they might show me the same behaviour but that won't change a thing, for me the only thing that matter would be how my man is treating me, so I apologise but, I don't think I can do this job for you."
I bowed a little.
"I will take my leave now and lastly thank you sir." And I made sure to leave his office as quick as I could.
Before walking back to my cabin, I had asked John and Bruno to give me a file they can allow me to work on and they did handed me two files.
They said they had worked on it already, but Mr. Vernon is looking for something better and something more unique.
It was a layout, a design and a whole presentation on making a new building, for a hospital.
I stared at the layout designs, each floor with a different layout.
Elevator, escalator, emergency exits, stairs.
Then the whole floor.
The hospital was mainly going to be for physically disabled people.
Kids, teenagers, adults and elderly people.
For all of them, and since it was related to medicine, I had quite some knowledge about it already.
A smug grin plastered against my lips, as I typed on my laptop, drawing sketches on papers for floors, for rooms, for open areas; terrace, play areas, garden.
Things that probably a lot of builders miss but are essential for people with more needs than normal healthy people.
There were many things that I had noticed, that no people actually paid any attention too, many physically disabled kids needed help with most of the things, and that was never taken in any kind of consideration.
All the points, the negative and the positive.
All of them, I had them typed on my laptop, for hours I was glued on my laptop.
Till it was time to leave.
Packing my things, I took along the files with me too, amd went to the parking area along with some other employees.
In the corner of the parking lot, was Luca's car, talking on his phone with someone, standing next to it, looking at me with a smile, his smile betraying the coldness in his voice.
I walked to him watching him, with a nervous and ashamed smile as he ended the call and walked to me.
"Hi!" His voice, was rather soft, and filled with more patience.
As if he knew, that the misunderstanding that had happened between us, had left both of us tarnished and he wanted to slowly and gradually fix it.
Standing tall Infront of me, he was continuously looking down at me with a smile and sadly our moment was broken by a fake cough we heard from behind us.
Luca and I, we both turned to look at the man, it was Xavier.
Looking ashamed and guilty, and as soon as Luca saw him his eyes turned stoic, glaring at him.
"What do you want now?" Luca spat his words, full of anger, full of hate.
Even I was a bit shocked to see him this angry.
"Man I'm sorry! I told you, I thought that you had confessed to the girl, how could I know that my newly hired secretary is the one who stole your heart, if I did I wouldn't had talked to her about it, plus even the smartest one of us couldn't connect the dots as fast as she did so it's entirely her fault for using her brain! I just told her about my friend I never said who it was and what's his name! She found that whole thing out on her own so blame her not me!"
Xavier was flabbergasted as he spouted all things he could in one breath, with no breaks.
Well that's a way, I'm sure no employees have ever seen their boss like.
Only if I could secretly click this live scene and post it online, oh it would be so fun.
I cleared my throat, realising how low my thoughts have gone, but it caught both their attention.
Luca looked at me with his brows raised.
"Oh... I that- I want to say that...it was just...a mistake, right? So it's best if we forget this...ever happened!" I let out an awkward laugh.
So embarrassing!
"Oh thank you so much my dear sister-in-law! See Luca, learn something from your future wife! Look at her and you might learn how to be forgiving, you heartless monster!"
Xavier snickered before dashing away from us before Luca could do or say anything to him.
"Why did you say that?" Luca fully turned to me, his hands now in his pant's pockets.
"Wh–what?" I looked at him with confusion.
"That brainless human literally created a world class misunderstanding between us, and it's not possible that after finding that I might be dating another woman, while treating you like that, you wouldn't have thought or taken me as a womaniser, player or something."
"Look, I know how you would've felt about all of this okay? And it was his fault, I had told him not to tell anyone about this matter, I was afraid this might do something to your image, and after all that ruckus that happened when Ayla was born, it was more than enough already, anything more would've been even more tantalising to you and I didn't want that."
"Moreover, that whole night, when you told me what Xavier had told you, I was afraid that you were going to get it and might panic like you did before, I was scared Laurel."
He kept talking and talking, sharing every single fear in his heart, telling me every single thing, he had been hiding.
