Chapter 4 - The Endless Hunter: Chapter 4

"Mother of the Amber Foxes - Level 8"

Leo shuddered. This was by far the most powerful creature he had faced in combat. Two daggers in each hand, one of crystal and one of steel, he was more ready than ever before. Experience in this forest allowed him to realize that always being on the alert was crucial to survive. He turned around to face it. This fight would turn out differently.

This time he had a plan. One that Leo thought might actually have a chance. First, Leo would face the Mother Amber Fox in melee combat, to test out his 2 new daggers. If that didn't work, he would teleport to higher ground a few meters away, so that he could damage the fox using arrows. So he tried it. He drew his daggers, and swung them around, hoping to threaten the fox, to show that he wasn't joking around. Unfortunately, that failed. In fact, that just made it angrier than before. It was clearly furious that Leo had slain 5 of its "family." So without waiting any longer, it pounced on its prey. But what it didn't know was that it would become Leo's prey.

Facing a fox with two small weapons isn't easy. It never was. But the Crystal Dagger allowed him to make scratches on the fox that were equal to deep cuts. Even making the slightest interaction with the blade dealed some damage. The fox was losing Health Points at a rapid pace. The Crystal Dagger definitely gave him a tiny advantage in combat. He made plenty of wounds on the fox, and clearly it was getting frustrated. Then it made a move that Leo did not expect. It bristled up its fur, and they stuck out like needles. It shot its fur out, aimed at Leo, and when they made contact, they stung. And there were at least 10 hits with each shot. Leo then knew that close range combat wasn't going to work, so he decided to switch things around.

He used his necklace to teleport to a tree branch far away, tucked his daggers in his belt, and pulled out his bow. The Quiver really made a difference. He almost forgot that the quiver was on his back, since it was so light. The new quiver apparently came with more arrows as well, which Leo noticed. He drew an arrow, aimed directly at the fox, who was in pursuit of him, darting towards the tree. Just when the fox pounced on the tree to climb, Leo released. The arrow whisked through the air, and the arrow impaled the fox's throat. Since it was not very far away, it was an easy shot, and therefore accurate. It almost died instantly. He would get the kill notification soon.

Leo then realized something. The creatures of this level were very strong. Almost stronger than Leo. If there was a whole island, full of creatures, wouldn't there be creatures of levels far greater than 8, maybe even in the few tens, if not hundreds? Leo suddenly shuddered. It would be a long time before he would be considered "Powerful".

He also wondered how far the rarities go. From Leo's experience in video games, they went from common, uncommon, rare, epic, Legendary, and to Mythical. He wondered if there were such rarities. So far he only had items with the "rare" rarity. Really how powerful are mythical weapons? If the rare necklace allowed him to teleport, what would a mythical dagger do? Incinerate everything in a 100 mile radius except the owner? Make meteors shower down on where the dagger lands? Jake imagined what it would be like to have that much power. He wanted it so bad. He craved it.

The sound of a kill notification interrupted his thinking.

*DING!*

"You have killed: Mother of the Amber Foxes - Level 8

250 Survival points earned."

"Even though the fight had gone far better than expected, Leo still lost many Health, Stamina, Strength, and Speed Points. Here were his Stats:

"HUMAN-Class: Archer - Level 2"

Health Points: 30/70

Stamina: 20/45

Mana Points: 0/0

Strength: 20/50

Speed: 45/65

He had lost plenty of Stats, but the fight was worth it. Especially after he got the kill notification, as well as a level.

*DING!*

"HUMAN-Class: Archer has gained 1 level.

But then something completely different popped up. Something called....A skill selection. Something that Leo had never seen before. Leo did not know that after this process of his survival, his power would leap to even greater heights.
