Penny's POV
The morning after feels better than I expect. Like the air is still carrying Andrew's words from last night. Next time, I want your yes.
I wake up to the smell of coffee coming from the kitchen, the sound of pans clattering, and Jess humming to herself in the guest room. For a while, I just lie in my bed, staring at the ceiling, and replaying everything over in my head.
When I finally drag myself downstairs, Mom is already in her apron, flipping eggs while Jess dances around her, stealing pieces of toast.
"Morning, sleepyhead," Jess chirps, grinning when she sees me. "Your mom makes the fluffiest scrambled eggs I've ever had."
Mom swats at her with the spatula, smiling. "Eat first, compliment later."
I laugh, pulling a stool. "Jess, you've been here for a few days and you're already stealing my mom."
"She's a better cook than you," Jess says sweetly.
Mom chuckles. "Don't tease her. She has other gifts."
